"But there is one fat minus, which is that the crew becomes completely dependent on technical vision. Yes, there are cameras and panoramic surveillance devices. But in the event of a complete blackout of the vehicle or damage to the sights, neither the gunner nor the commander has backup optical channels. Just as there is no way to lean out of the hatch and look around the area around the tank, the tower standing behind and the low height of the vehicle body will interfere. Although this is a question for all tanks with an uninhabited turret without specific reference to models " Yup. Good read... Thanks for that. It's funny... My son read about this development prototype and ran to talk to me about it. He's (of course) heard me talk about (and rant about) tanks and tanking his whole life - so he knew I'd hate it. (Imagine the glee for a teenager to torment his father!) Part of me thinks that there is no Effing way that any American Tanker worth his salt would allow the nerd designers to put into service some robotic death trap that further reduces the efficacy of the tank by eliminating a crewman and reduces the situational awareness of the commander - but I've also been wrong before. The unfortunate RU adventure in Ukraine has convinced everyone that Robots Rule and that Unmanned is Cool... I'm convinced the techno-cats are learning the wrong lessons.* *Wars aren't won by new and shiny toys but rather by hard and dirty boys --- Side Bar: I note Armata isn't playing. From experience... I suspect that this particular wunderkind is not going to prove to be wunderbar after being 'field tested' - should that ever occur.

IMO Kerbal Kart is where it's at. ... Guessing they are thinking about people to work on a future DLC release, focused on improving the base game - but also enhancing shenanigans?

What have you been playing recently? (Other than KSP)

That seems really weird to me. While I know a bunch of people who enjoy gaming, only two of them are likely to buy /enjoy KSP2 (and for broadly different reasons). Are you sure they are interested in KSP... Or just another MP 'Something'?- 1,629 replies

You've heard of the GOAT... Welcome to the BOAT: https://www.cnn.com/2022/10/17/world/gamma-ray-burst-detection-scn/index.html In our research group, we’ve been referring to this burst as the ‘BOAT’, or Brightest Of All Time, because when you look at the thousands of bursts gamma-ray telescopes have been detecting since the 1990s, this one stands apart. ... The Fermi telescope detected the burst for more than 10 hours

You just made me think about something. What if MP isn't full featured? As in - they never found an elegant solution to the Warp Thing - but they do offer some kind of Sandbox MP, where players can load into a game with each other on Kerbin or some other place with a ship or rover and race (or whatever) without the possibility of warp? ( the core game remains a SP experience, but there are MP features that players can take advantage of) How would you all react to that?- 1,629 replies

You are likely correct - but with all the hullabaloo over MP - it would be nice to have some (any) info about it. THIS Friday, may be too early... The "weeks" chat above is very unspecific -
For Questions That Don't Merit Their Own Thread

In no particular order: Moscow's metro stations are deep underground for a reason. Assess the threat. NK launching one (or 5) nukes at Japan is very different from the MAD scenario where RU launches the vast majority of its arsenal to kill the West and its Allies. A 15kt weapon is a neighborhood killer. If you are not in the exact part of Tokyo... You are likely fine. Most people won't need to worry about the fallout. The biggest risk is ingesting the heavy metal / radioactive dust and Japan has lots of masks (N-95 is all you need). The biggest risk is the breakdown of the logistics system - but if it were only one bomb, you would treat it like a regional natural disaster. (Side note) Did you ever look at the Ventura County, CA Nuke Safety guide? https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&url=https://s29710.pcdn.co/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/VC-Nuclear-Safety-18pp-Education-Guide-Downloadable-FINAL.pdf&ved=2ahUKEwjB2IGA9un6AhXMjIkEHWhzCAkQFnoECBsQAQ&usg=AOvVaw1TSd_62zTvRvimK9GFOXeT. It's not bad. Several countries give the US places to use to watch for CN/RU nukes - the presumption is that they are also beneficiaries of the early warning. Unfortunately, bureaucracy may not give you much time, anyway. -

Well, and to be fair - while giving Starlinks was cool and good PR - you can guarantee that places like Raytheon, BAE and etc. are not missing out on the wave of money flowing around the US/EU's support for Ukraine. Why shouldn't SX ask for a slice of the pie?

Anyone got an instant pot? My old crock pot (that I just made a fantastic Biff Stew in) cracked and we've got one on order to replace it. Now, on to the Biff Stew (or as my daughter calls it, "Steak Soup"); Got 2 lbs of Chuck and seared both sides. Important note - you don't want to just brown it... Coated the skillet with the tallow I rendered earlier. Salted and peppered the beef after letting it sit for an hour in a bag with a 1/4 - 3/4 mix of soy to Worcester. (just a drizzle, btw) Got the skillet good and hot and lightly browned 1/2 an onion and some garlic in a bit more tallow, tossed in a little red wine, removed the veggies (saved some of the liquid for use in the stew) and then let the beef cook until the liquid (fat) browned out and the edges of the meat got a good sear. Set it aside. Peeled red potatoes, chopped into 1" cubes. Several large carrots, peeled and chopped into 3/4" chunks. Dumped a whole box of beef broth into the slow cooker with the taters and carrots, 1tbsp of Worcester, 2 Bay leaves, a sprig of rosemary, a good pinch of dried thyme, 1tbsp of Cholula, 1/2 of a jalapeño, diced, the onion and garlic (adding a little more unbrowned garlic an onion, b/c I like strong flavor), 3 tbsp tomato paste and a can of diced tomatoes and a little oregano. Cut up the chuck into 1" squares and added it. Let it cook for 6 hours. Stirred it a few times during the day. About 1/2 hour before serving I half cooked a bag of frozen green beans and added them to the stew (wanted them crisp, not soggy). Poured in a good dose of red wine for flavor. Just before dinner, mixed 1 tbsp corn starch, 2 tbsp flour and 1 tbsp chickpea flour with cold water to make the thickener. Stirred that in and turned off the heat. Also made biscuits. Thought there would be leftovers for days... Nope.

KSP 2 Multiplayer Discussion Thread
JoeSchmuckatelli replied to Johnster_Space_Program's topic in Prelaunch KSP2 Discussion
That's the thing, innit? I think joining for a rover race somewhere would be fun. But the completely absurd way I use warp when trying to get a landing or intercept for a docking would not lend itself to me playing with others for anything other than that. Also: The biggest risk of online interaction. If KSP2's KSC is destructible... Players will 'accidentally' destroy others' bases because they can. The nightmare of reporting and tickets and trolling will be unfun for the team / individual playing multiplayer with randos. Much easier to police in some form of peer-to-peer coop where the player can allow people in or ban them at will. This kind of system would let those who want to play with friends not have all their work destroyed by some randomer. (still have to select 'friends' wisely).- 1,629 replies

KSP 2 Multiplayer Discussion Thread
JoeSchmuckatelli replied to Johnster_Space_Program's topic in Prelaunch KSP2 Discussion
That was never promised. ... ... ... Now - I will admit something. The Nate himself, a few weeks back, admitted that he and the team were "racing rovers." While they could have been doing time trials... the idea of 'racing' usually involves two or more competitors and a track. So - for me - this is the biggest evidence that MP is still a thing in KSP2. What kind of thing? [shrug emoji]- 1,629 replies
