The Analysis of Sea Levels.
JoeSchmuckatelli replied to mikegarrison's topic in Science & Spaceflight
This is timely. @SunlitZelkova and @kerbiloid you guys may enjoy this: https://www.wired.com/story/micromorts-nuclear-war/ (Statistical Forecasting group looks at the prospects of detonation) Also: "The myth that panic, looting, and antisocial behavior increases during the apocalypse (or apocalyptic-like scenarios) is in fact a myth—and has been solidly disproved by multiple scientific studies." "Humans do not, under the pressure of an emergency, socially collapse. Rather, they seem to display higher levels of social cohesion, despite what media or government agents might expect…or portray on TV. Humans, after the apocalypse, band together in collectives to help one another—and they do this spontaneously. Disaster response workers call it ‘spontaneous prosocial helping behavior’, and it saves lives." https://www.tor.com/2018/11/14/what-really-happens-after-the-apocalypse/ -
The Analysis of Sea Levels.

I've seen some. I think there is one linked up thread that was kind of weak. -
You know... I did not think about this. Sometimes, I guess you just can't win for trying. As mentioned, I'm fairly certain my 5600x, 16gb RAM and 3070 will be sufficient unto the task, but other's results may vary. (Still looking at you, Aging Laptop Complainers gamers) Perhaps they could use something, like maybe an Early Access period... or something - to identify what systems it works on? I hereby yield the topic. Thread may be closed. (yes, that last must be read "cloze ed"

KSP2 Hype Train Thread
JoeSchmuckatelli replied to Whirligig Girl's topic in Prelaunch KSP2 Discussion
The collection of 'shelf regolith' is an important step. Between now and then, it will gather regolith while the developers explore other parts of this planet which they've not been able to see for a very long time. After Feb 24, they will all be dragged back into their respective cages and punished by having to read these forums until fixed. -
So... The rice came out fine. So has the rice I've made stove top. I think the advantage of the instant pot is that it's programmable - so I'm not likely to overcook any rice. I don't notice that it takes any less time or less prep. Guess I need to look for a higher branch to see if I really like it or not. Edit - FWIW, I'm a big fan of toasting the rice in butter or garlic flavored olive oil before the kernals ever get wet. Toss in some fresh chives or garlic and add salt/ spices before cooking (time comes down a bit) and the rice is fantastic.

First test of the instant pot. Hard boiled eggs using 5-5-5 method. Came out good. (low hanging fruit) Now onto basmatti

I referred to and quoted from the website. Go to the FAQ portion and look under the quoted parts Kerbal Space Program 2 -
I'm with both of you - KSP2 offers a phenomenal opportunity to do 'something interesting' with science beyond merely getting points.

KSP2 Hype Train Thread
JoeSchmuckatelli replied to Whirligig Girl's topic in Prelaunch KSP2 Discussion
The website confirmed anomalies. It did not specifically say that they are tied to the science... But rather that more will be introduced when science hits. Indicates, maybe (likely) that there is some benefit to science from finding... But that's a far cry from being required to advance -
Easter Egg message at the end of Early Access Video
JoeSchmuckatelli replied to Vl3d's topic in Prelaunch KSP2 Discussion
The message is: "We come from the third planet. We made a rocket ship and went to the sixth planet. Kraken killed our ship." (Part One) Second part - probably - "We killed the Kraken, thanks Tim!" -

The answers above are sufficient - but I kind of speculate that the first Milestone will actually happen fairly quickly. Science being an integral part of the current KSP, it's probably something that doesn't/won't take a lot more work to round out. The Early Access 'sandbox only' is probably the best and most massive play testing that will find not only the most obvious problems with the core game - but a lot of the little things they never thought about b/c of being 'too close' to everything. Once the bug hunting is done, adding in Science / whatever else they want with Step 2 basically brings us to a full-featured revamp of KSP1 - and all the other stuff is the 'new' features we've been excited by. My prediction is that we get that within a relatively short time after Feb (short months) after which they will probably add Colonies some long months after with Interstellar, Exploration and MP (plus the update to be named later) coming in '24(+). -
Um. Hidden Anomaly? Uh... ...what's that?
JoeSchmuckatelli replied to JoeSchmuckatelli's topic in Prelaunch KSP2 Discussion
Wait - are these like the pyramids? -
Maybe I did not play deep enough into KSP... But I don't remember bumping into a Hidden Anomaly However, KSP2 will have one (or, ahem, more) How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version? More star systems and hidden anomalies (meaning, to my mind, EA should have an Anomaly - hidden - somewhere, and in the full version there are MOAR!)

Due to unforeseen consequences I found myself watching old KSP2 hype vids - and consequently find myself less sour on the prospects of MP being part of the release package.- 1,629 replies

Gaaah! I started watching to catch your source reference... And now I can't stop watching KSP2 'stuff'! Don't. Have. Time. Must. Finish. Work! Fie on you all! -
...my rovers act predictably, don't lose their mind from when I programmed everything in the VAB (where wheels went and turned in the designated directions) to when I log into that body again and the thing has become possessed. Or no longer is affected by gravity or some other nonsense! (Read: yeah, I hear you!)

good luck. That kind of stuff is fun, and knowing how to get water in a pinch is a great skill. You might also look into capturing transpiration from trees - also with a garbage bag and a stone. Plastic Bag Water Collection System : 5 Steps (with Pictures) - Instructables w/r/t dew collection: dont forget to use coathanger wire! Also: I've done this: it works! Desert Survival: How to Build a Solar Still - DesertUSA Plus, in a pinch you can cut up a bunch of local vegetation and line the hole to improve your water collection. Like cactuses. (Don't generally drink cactus juice directly: you will get the hershey squirts, and that's worse for your survivability than anything) -- Just make sure the veggies don't touch the top of the bag or the inside of your collection setup)

Time of year and location will dictate. Santa Anna season in SoCal will not be a good time to play with this. Something like this, perhaps: Fog & Dew Collectors for clean drinking water (inhabitat.com) (Although, tbh, when I played around with this two decades ago, I found that a black Home Depot garbage bag, a small stone and a coffee can did a fair job)
