The whole idea that 'there are a lot more people there' is being reinforced by not being present, here. The thing I don't like about the Discord is that it is just so much noise - and nothing is adequately sorted into meaningful discussion. So there's no benefit to being there absent just spraying some nonsense into the chat to see if you can get a rise out of someone. Anything practical or productive just disappears under all that.

[SPOILERS] Purple-Yellow-Red lights seen while flying
JoeSchmuckatelli replied to Vl3d's topic in KSP2 Discussion
They're artifacts. I've gone looking, too just to be sure... but the reality is they look exactly like rendering errors. -
Hey! That was mine! Yaaaay! (From all the way back on Feb 24) Also reported... but aside from losing the orbit line, I did not think these would get addressed in the first patch. Thank you for this communication! And at @Dakota 'soon(tm)' - noted. Thank you, too.
-
Wait for a patch or two and see what it looks like then. Only join if you are a relatively experienced Beta / Alpha player and enjoy bug hunting and reporting in hopes of making the game eventually better for all. If you just want to play - give them time to get it up to a state where most things work like they should. Observation; it's been a week since release without a patch. That could indicate one of two things: they want the first patch to be very comprehensive and fix most things... or that they can't figure out what the problems are. I'm leaning towards the first... but they should probably get something out sooner rather than later.

Now that I think about it... I'm nostalgic for the way we were when @Vl3d was posting all his concerns about clouds and artwork! (I will say - I'm impressed with the little bit of terrain I'm seeing. One thing I wish for the far-distant future is they get those chunks of trees &etc to fade in less chunkily. But... man I am holding that one close. I'll be happy to just be able to undock my munar lander without both crafts disappearing. -

Grin. I did go from KSP2 'apologist' to largely critical. I still believe in the potential - just amazed at the current state + lack of communication. -

I went and looked at the KSP2 'Socials'. They are garbage. Twitter: Literally "Everything is FINE! -- Let's do a Challenge!" (as if the game were fully performant). They're treating this like a normal launch with a functioning, game that people are enjoying playing as designed. Discord: the place is a chaotic mess. Maybe there are a bunch of people there - but the critical content is getting lost in the noise. The refrain is 'Post substantive bug reports on the forum'. Okay. Why? If you spend any time on either of those places you get a completely skewed perspective. This is the only place where people are actually trying to test and report on things that adversely affect enjoyment and playability. -
SPOILER-FREE: Data-mining yields good news
JoeSchmuckatelli replied to VlonaldKerman's topic in KSP2 Discussion
They do. They're called "Alpha" and "Beta" and this game would have benefited from either one. Except what they chose to do was host a VERY PUBLIC "Open Alpha" with the unique feature that you get to pay $50 to participate. Most Alphas and Betas, btw, are free and run in a completely different way. Go look at the Twitter - it's all "Everything is fine - let's do a challenge!" Go look at the Discord - it's just a chaotic mess, where anything of substance disappears almost immediately. If you want to be totally confused about what is going on and have no clue how to fix it; spend time on both of those 'socials'. If you want to see what dedicated players are doing and frustrated with; here's the place... and the place where the CM team is decidedly, NOT. -
decouplers blow up ships when engines are idle. Decouplers blow up ships when engines are spent. It's not as easy as that. I find that if I don't reload the game for each individual ship I intend to build that the previous ones built and flying become forever corrupted. Workaround? Load game. Work on and fly one ship. Close game. Rinse. Repeat. The problem is that even with this workaround - I get ships that won't stage correctly - and even if the stage separation happens, the lander stage gets called 'debris' and all I have is a spent booster as the named ship (with no pod of any kind attached)

I want to be clear - I am highly critical of the job that PD Dakota is doing, but I harbor no ill will towards him. So, yeah, do I think he needs to be doing more here to address the community? Yes. But frankly he's the one getting paid to manage this - and I don't feel (as a member of the Community) that we are getting anywhere near the kind of response that the Dev Team or Community deserves. We have all been in difficult situations - and those times require people to rise to the occasion - so it remains to be seen whether the team can accomplish this. I have great hope for this game... but the reputational harm has been done and continues to be done with every passing day. There is no hiding what is going on. The press is terrible, the reports are piling up and long time fans are recommending to everyone WAIT. I literally am telling people to avoid the title - but I'm testing because I believe in the potential. So @Dakota - Strongly recommend some kind of lengthy post where you do more than assure us that T2 and PD are supporting the Dev team. I appreciate knowing that... but give us something to hope for what is coming up in this very public Alpha? Noted. Looking forward to it. -

What a waste of effort. Also - nothing of substance. What's needed is some kind of substantial communication - like a 'Dev Post' or "CM to the Testing Community" post. Not holding my breath. -

Dakota has rarely responded to anything and hasn't authored a post, AFAIK. Certainly nothing to address the dumpster fire. He's a PD employee, not a member of the Intercept team. Who knows what his priorities are - but he's clearly overwhelmed and not responsive to what is happening. -

The pricing should have certainly reflected the game state better. Pricing at $50 - which is, admittedly a discount over the planned 1.0 price - tells players that the game is in a true EA state; one that can be enjoyed fully with the features that are available and that more features are forthcoming. This is not in an EA state. Basics are not functioning like undocking a craft from a booster - and having the game label the endstage with the Kerbal in it as "Debris" with no way to switch to or control the craft boosters pulling fuel past decouplers and draining descent stage tanks wings that don't connect correctly to planes and flap instead of fly docking ports that explode ships when decoupled Selecting 'destroy debris' in the Space Center - and confirming - does not destroy debris Recover vessel - Kerbals disappear Taking a plane for a flight - and the camera angle is on its side by default Hell - just look at the bug report page. -

That level of disregard would be almost as annoying, I will grant you that. Still - it's like they have no concept of the reputational harm that is occurring. This Dev team and community deserve better. -
Launched into an orbit to try to see if I could dock and undock a pair of craft; upon separation of booster stage - the two pods were labeled as 'Debris". No way to select them or switch to them. Window showed a kerbal - but the only ship was the unmanned booster stage. Have no idea where "Anbert Kerman" may be - but his soul is stuck in the booster.

@RayneCloud - you posted a very gentle prod to someone who's doing a job you used to do for this series. You were complimentary and kind and also suggested they communicate a bit better. Not seeing any response from them.* Private Division isn't managing anything; the dumpster fire of reviews and unmet expectations is unchecked, nor responded to in anything approaching an adequate manner. All players on any media are encouraged to post reports here on the forums - and there is zero response to any of it. I'm not suggesting that every single post needs a response; far from it. But even a once every two days 'hey, we hear you, we are working; thank so much for sticking around!' type post would be appreciated. Something suggesting 'hey - we will have a patch up in a week' would be excellent. But PD Dakota is doing none of that. *the lone post in your thread doesn't count. I'm talking about participation on the forums and communication in general. They're doing Bupkiss. -

The Community Managers are doing nothing to manage these expectations. Not a single Beta/EA title in this condition has ever been as lacking in official response or communication as Private Division Dakota has managed to accomplish. -
https://steamdb.info/app/954850/charts/ Not that SteamDB is the end all be all of good info - but I do think it is telling that the numbers have dropped so precipitously. Virtually zero interaction from the Community Management team, no word on a patch and the rare possibility from pure guesswork that Friday might be a day to expect something... But maybe not. Perhaps the numbers tick up on the weekend, perhaps they jump after news of a patch comes out. Or maybe they drop the price by 50% (looking at you, Mexico) in hopes of getting new players into the pay for Alpha experience. The press on this, the word of mouth is terrible... And yet we die-hard fans are still here, still hoping. Maybe that is why the CM team seems so unengaged. Useless.
