  1. I think they should chain the dev's to their terminals and only feed them if they squash bugs or develop new features... Seriously I think for the cost of the game and the free updates and continued development the community is getting excellent value for money. My personal feeling is that all the people behind the game have pushed very hard to get 1.1 out and deserve some time out. I also think whatever they plan to do in time is going to be great.
  2. $1200 would get you some good entry level archery equipment however you should join a club first if you have no experience (better deals and some experience with the different types of bows). I find it relaxing to fling projectiles downrange. Another plus is that running is against the rules....more fun than tech stuff.
  3. I don't know about the drag but I'm pretty sure that rocket is going to wobble during ascent. Inside the rockomax stack separator are 4 'tabs' that extend inward. I usually attach 4 struts to the fuel tank above starting from the tabs.
  4. The Whackjob Mod You cannot launch a craft with less than 500 parts or under 1000T.
  5. Kerbal Stupid Friend Simulator Random comments sound every 3-5minutes; 'Are you playing that stupid game again?' 'Nothing's happening -is it?' 'Who do you kill in this game?' 'Why are you flying in circles?' ...ect..
  6. Exploration may be a requirement for intelligent life. A sentient being on a deep ocean floor could start wondering what is above like the ancients in our cultures looking up at the stars. Such creatures would need to be capable of withstanding high pressures as a matter of course. They may have the opposite problem to the humans in the abyss in that they might need mechanisms to increase pressure as they ascend. Humans have pursued mechanical technology for the most part. It is only in the last decades that bio-mimicry is being seriously investigated however there is nothing preventing an alien society pushing biological technology first - particularly with the difficulty that would arise from submerged metallurgy and combustion sciences.
  7. I believe that a liquid dwelling intelligent species that discovered space travel would be possible (I'd like to see what the dolphins on earth are driving in a million years or so) however I can see many 'human-centric" ideas in the posts above. I understand that H2O is an excellent medium for the chemical reactions required for life on our planet however some scientists are postulating there could be life on Titan in the methane seas due to experiments with hydrocarbons and tholins. DNA is the base of life here however the possibilities exist for other reactions resulting in life...just not as we know it. The ability to smelt metal or cook food may not be required by a life form that was so different to us. The tardegrade or "water bear" has been found to live after exposure to open space and radiation so we already have space fairing aquatic life here and they may be more intelligent than humanity - they have been here far longer than us. If I was to look at human history I would say the greatest driver of our science and technology was war and conflict ("It is in Man's nature to rise above His peers and impose His will on all." - Aristotle in Ethics) however I imagine a species that was peaceful and co-operative could also achieve space travel on vehicles that were not originally designed to kill and terrorise fellow members of their species. If this is not the case I welcome our new octopus overlords....
  8. I live in Perth, Jebkeb, and there are a few private bio-reactors. The problem you may face is the lack of waste vegetable oil to make bio-diesel - over here most sources are already being exploited for profit.
  9. I'm an addict too. I do play other games (usually after an epic fail) but I start sweating and shaking uncontrollably after a day or two and have to get my KSP on.
  10. Lol - quite lazy... and thirsty. I was thinking in a social environment like a party or a pub.
  11. My name is James and I am also a kerbaholic. I agree with all the posts above but I would like to add that I've been playing computer games since 1980 and I have never played a game where I've learned so much about a real world subject than in KSP. I've never played a game where the community inspires me to push the envelope of my own game play or constantly amazes me with solutions to problems that would never occur to me.
  12. You can just hack gravity using the debug menu. Hit Alt + F12.
  13. Earth's early atmosphere is thought to have been lost by a different mechanism - planetesimal bombardment. An article on MIT's studies of the phenomenon here.
  14. I have been using KAX to create VTOLS with the electric propeller for Duna and Eve. Nowhere near as good as cupcake's creations but they fly.
  15. Let it burn up on re-entry. Since the Apollo missions humanity has been stuck in orbit. If the ISS is gone then there is more chance and more funding to send humans further than the moon.
  16. I only play KSP now (Thanks everyone at squad for a unique and remarkable game) and I only play career mode. It challenges me in the early game to do more with less and forces me to take contracts I don't feel comfortable doing in order to upgrade KSC or unlock science nodes. It has taught me to maximise returns from missions (My first kerballed mission off Kerbin in my latest save mined 4 biomes on Minmus and 3 biomes on the Mun for science and profit). Personally I don't think I would have progressed so far with my understanding of the game without career mode. Later on career basically becomes a sandbox game when you have all the science unlocked and plenty of Kredits - that's usually when i'll add some new mods and start afresh.
  17. My first interplanetary landing was on Ike (career explore mission) and I managed to land on an ore patch without a survey. I thought "this is cool, I'll fuel up, hop over to Duna, get the science and come home" .... this was a stock install with no mods so I didn't know how much TWR or DV I needed. In the end I just made orbit and pushed all the way home with the EVA jetpack. I think it took 6-8 hours IRL even with a lucky Mun assist. Now I use Kerbal Engineer Redux and research new destinations.
  18. I concur with Kiwi - it's pretty hard to drink yourself cool on a 45 degree Celsius day over here (Aus). On topic, I have read a thread where Nova had an idea for the monoliths and other anomalies to reveal another planet (Duna SSTV signal). I think this would have made one of the best easter eggs in any game I'd ever played. Imagine if the planet was occupied by the alien overseers of kerbal civilization...
  19. I have used transfer windows but who wants to wait 3 years? I mostly brute force where I want to go and then I get out and push when I inevitably run out of fuel.
  20. Greetings All, I can still remember my first Kerbin orbit. 3 days of failure followed by the most amazing sense of achievement I've ever felt playing a game. Worst moment was accidentally clicking space centre instead of reverting after turning Jeb, Bill and Bob into paste on the Duna surface. Cheers, James
