  1. I'm jumping on the hype train cause I've got a golden ticket, I've got a golden twinkle in my eye. Cannot wait for the update, I don't care if my mods won't work, it'll be a breathe of fresh air familiarizing myself with the stock version for awhile.
  2. Hey guys! I'm rather new to the forum, and this is my first challenge post. I don't know if this has been done before but I've been thinking lately of a challenge that would be rather difficult. Getting 100% science (by 100% science I mean running each science experiment in each biome, not necessarily getting full science points from each biome, however that would beef up your score) from all Kerbin System bodies. This may take some time so Maybe we can start with Kerbin SOI and work out to the edge of the system. Im looking to develop this challenge with some feed back from y'all I imagine the challenge working something like this: There would be a minimum number of nodes you would be required to unlock in the STOCK tech tree that unlock all of the science gizmos. From that point it would to see how far, how much science you collect with out unlocking anymore tech tree nodes. Each tech tree node you unlocked in addition to the science nodes would limit the available science left in the universe and thus limit what your maximum score could be. Lets say each node cost 50 science for example and the Kerbin universe contains 10000 science and there are 5 science nodes in the tech tree that means that the maximum score you could obtain would be 9750 science. and each additional node would be -50. But as we know the tech gets more expensive the more we unlock! in addition to the game being 100% stock for consistency, the mobile processing lab is prohibited. Each experiment must be returned via a manned mission at least one time. Let me know you thoughts, Leafy.
  3. The other day I sent a probe on a Hohmann transfer to dres. it was a probe core followed by a liquid fuel tank to a 3 way adapter that housed all the science components, then three nuclear engines. I had three small radiators. The escape burn to dres was complete and i was just waiting for KAC to alert me when i entered the SOI of Dres. I switched the ship one day just to check on batteries and such things and all i found was a husk. I am using B9, KIS, KAS, and i believe that is it and all their associated mods and recommendations from install with CKAN. I also had sent a upgrade mission to the probe while it was still in LKO to add to oscar b tanks and a two fuel cells with KAS. I have no idea why it blew up but the next transfer window is like 200 days away and im just stumped. When i left the craft the radiators were left on but there should have no excess heat coming from the ship, everything was powered down. Let me know what y'all think. I will try to attach a photo of ship when i get home. Thank you, Leafy
  4. What is endgame? haha. I've been playing since 2013 and only just recently launched a probe to Duna. Not that I lacked the skills to do so before, I just was having too much fun in Kerbin's SOI! So much left to do in this game!
  5. Yes, but with a toggle option. Most of the time I give myself a healthy dV budget and when I'm finished with my primary mission, if every thing lines up and I can get gravity assists or am just in the right place to visit another planet with minimal dv expenditure I usually will the take the opportunity and squeeze every last bit of usefulness from the space craft. I do not want to have to worry about giving my kerbals an extra 2 years or 2 weeks etc extra worth of life support. But if I was playing a realistic career mode which I do from time to time, it is definitely something I would want. Edit: If they added additional parts like agricultural bays that produce oxygen and food (only deployable on a planets surface) so that landing missions to far out planets required less contingencies it would be a definite yes. In addition, it would be good insurance to keep one on board so if unexpected events occur you actually have some shot at rescuing stranded kerbals. Cheers, Leafy.
  6. "....Oh the kerbal in the sky keeps on smilin', I don't know where I'll be tomorrow...." Kerbal in the Sky - Kourney
  7. Didn't know this until a few days ago but Alt + L locks staging.
  8. For me it depends, In the early stage of the game (career) I spend most of the time building. However as I progress through the tech tree, I get a few rocket designs that are capable of doing several things with small tweaks to design here and there. So once I get designs to do specific things like Kerbal AAA (rescue craft), Probe cores, Manned lander pods etc... I spend the majority of the time flying. I prefer exploring space rather than being cooped up in the VAB/SPH.
  9. Thanks to KAS and KIS I don't leave any debris in orbit if I can help it. The KAS and KIS allows the use of programable c4 charges, I just EVA and attach one retreat to a safe distance and watch the pyrotechnics.
  10. I don't know about anyone else but more than a few times I've accidentally bumped the space bar and staged prematurely, whether it was an orbital insertion or a re-entry and parachutes ripping off, it can ruin a mission. I know what everyone must be thinking, "keep your hands away from the spacebar!" and I do. Most of the time its purely accidental, a water bottle falls over or my elbow hits it etc. Im thinking it would be great to have a toggle button to double tap for staging this way early staging mishaps could be avoided.
  11. I haven't seen anything yet about using the administration building yet. You could always set up a career mode so that all the money you make is from gathering science or all the money you get is from reputation etc, etc.... it could definitely add new and exciting twist to that career.
  12. A few days back my transfer window to Dres was coming up so I built a probe and put it in a stable parking orbit at 100km, ready to burn at a moments notice. I had roughly 30 days left until the transfer window, and realized that the solar panels I fixed to the probe may not suffice that far out in the solar system. Lacking the science to push any breakthroughs in technology, it was a mad dash around mission control to conduct a science mission and unlock fuel cell technology since the boys in the lab insisted they were close. A mission to Minmus was hastily slapped together and set to visit 3 biomes, the north pole being one location. It was a successful mission, netting around 1600 science. I unlocked fuel cell technology and hastily sent a repair crew to rendezvous with the Dres probe to install 2 oscar b LFO tanks and two fuel cells (KAS is the best!). I was barely able to get it all done in time. It was a very fun sequence of missions.
