  1. In my own experience on PS4 crashes and corrupted saves come down to one thing - having unlocked too far into the tech tree in science mode. I don't have any issues with recovery causing crashes, just like I rarely have issues with crashes at all... until I unlock too far into the tech tree.
  2. I tried emailing Flying Tiger and I reached the same person. I received this response on 11/7/2016: ---- Hey Justin, Thank you for taking the time to contact us. As far as I know, Squad has the latest build and we're just waiting for hear when they upload it. Thank you for being an awesome fan, Michelle -- Michelle Brandstetter Creative Director michelleb@ftmobile.com Main (562) 690-2599 Direct (562) 822-4313 Flying Tiger Entertainment, Inc. 251 E. 3. I also would be in no position to ask for a refund. I bet I have 50+ hours on PS4 (not sure if there's an actual way to tell). I racked up a lot of the trophies, but I can say with 100% certainty I would be thrilled to start over and do it all again if I knew the roll back and corrupted save issue had been fixed, at least. I play in science mode and I avoid unlocking past a certain point on the tech tree. To be able to unlock the rest and/or play a career game without threat of losing progress would be heavenly!!!
  4. Are you on PS4 or Xbox? On PS4 I can say the first landing legs you unlock don't hold up very well, although a minmus landing at 1-2 MPS should be obtainable without legs breaking every time. My game glitches and crashes if I unlock rover wheels, so no experience there.
  5. Rather than trying to right click on the node and clicking the red X to delete it, just click on the X (or checkmark) beside of the M/S remaining next to the nav bar. The node will disappear. Seems pretty reliable so far. I still can't find a workaround for when you open a menu on a part during flight, and you click the button to make it stay on the screen, and then it won't turn off. For example, you go to transfer fuel between two tanks. You make the first stay on the screen by clicking the button in the corner, then right click on the other tank. I find this often happens on larger crafts or when docking. Only fix is exit to space center, and sometimes to completely restart the game.
  6. I almost felt like posting this in the technical forum for consoles since it seems like the only dedicated space for console players, but I don't guess it really belongs there. I was curious what accomplishments other console players have been able to make. My progress has been limited because of corruption issues after unlocking certain parts. I'm desperate to get to mining parts and nuclear engines. But even with limited selection of parts, I've been able to do the following. On PS4: Orbited Landed Unmanned Landed Manned Returned From Mun X X X X Minmus X X X X Duna X X X X Jool X Dres X X Eeloo X (more like encountered and then accidentally time warped out of SOI) Eve X Moho X Other; Landed beachfront and planted a flag on Laythe. Docking. Completed a rescue of a craft orbiting the sun that ran out of fuel on return from Duna.
  7. Haha, I have and it absolutely tested my patience and when against everything in my nature. Had to divorce myself from it mentally and make it clear that the result of the group effort was not representative of me. And I snuck back later and fixed what he did wrong when he wasn't looking! Ah, kids. I find Sandbox will inevitably crash and corrupt eventually. I can usually get away with 45 minutes or so before it happens. Because I can't yet access them in my science game, I tend to always use atomic engines and the mining parts in sandbox. Usually about the time I land a craft capable of mining on minmus or the mun, then the crash happens. I play this game every day, so I also agree it is 'playable', although far from finished.
  8. I highly recommend to anyone on console to buy a USB drive. I back my successful saves up to a PC, and when corruption occurs I just use the backup on the flash drive. If I accidentally overwrite the flash drive with a corrupted save, I then use the PC backup. In my own experience, you can only unlock the tech tree so far. After a certain point, corruption is all but guaranteed.
  9. That's frustrating! On PS4 I never manually save. I return to the space center before quitting, as the game seems to save automatically when you return to the space center. So I actually never quick save or quick load anything. Perhaps you can try returning to the space center after making progress and see if it saves then?
  10. I do get your frustration, but as PS4 player I would gladly restart my science mode game today if it meant I didn't have to worry about future saves being corrupted. Then again a big part of my experience has been learning the game, so starting over and doing things 'right' to an extent doesn't sound that bad anyway.
  11. Hi - I'm wondering how you come to these conclusions. Not saying you won't ultimately be right, but how would you know how quickly there will be a patch on PS4? I find the game playable except for corrupting saves and crashing that happens after I unlock the mining parts. It's a pain to close and reopen the game when I can no longer set a node, but it's not a game breaker. More like time to take a bathroom break while the game reboots. But as I've shared in other posts, I have intentionally stopped unlocking parts after a certain amount of progress as I have found that to help stop the crashing and some of the other bugs.
  12. I check this post among others every day waiting for a PS4 patch so I can move forward with unlocking mining parts and nuclear engines. But I want to point out I never played the game before PS4, and as of yesterday I managed to finish fueling a big craft in orbit, pass by Jool and land on a beach on Laythe. My point being, I am playing this game with hardly any crashes and data corruption using my method in the thread linked to below. I do still have some crashing, the same bugs as everyone else, and corruption every once in a while and I have to load my USB save. Maybe I should take a pic of my tech tree so other players might have an idea of what parts NOT to unlock to avoid corruption?
  13. In my experience, corruption tends to happen shortly after I complete a flight and return to the space center. The game seems to save when returning to the space center, so my theory is that it's at that point the system identifies the save as corrupted and you get that dreaded 'corrupt data' error. So what I tend to do when I'm done playing is return from a flight, then go and clean up ship debri. I give the game a couple of minutes to see if I'll get the error. I then close the game, and I update my save on the thumb drive before I boot the game up the next time. I remember one instance where I saved a corrupted save - I had just returned from my first trip to and from Minmus, so I hurried and overwrote the old save as soon as I recovered my ship. Big mistake.
  14. Yes it does. Please see my post below. Just be careful to not overwrite your USB save with a corrupted version of the save. I suggest periodically backing up the flash drive to a PC or other storage device, or using multiple flash drives.
  15. That's kind of like jumping at the last second to survive an elevator free falling!
  16. I have had a couple of very nice people on here help me out recently, so I wanted to post my own hopefully promising experience. I play on PS4. I lost three saves through the corrupted data issue after making (in my mind) fairly lengthy runs at science mode. In retrospect, I realize now that as a brand new player to the game I had learned a great deal but actual progress was very minimal. I became frustrated and almost gave up on everything except scenarios and messing around in sandbox mode. I created a new science mode game and upped the science reward percentage (whatever that's called) so that when I get science it's worth a lot of science points. That allowed me to catch up on what 'progress' I felt I had lost very quickly. I started using a flash drive to save my game each time before booting up KSP. When I had a corrupted data prompt, I just reloaded data from my flash drive. Knocking on wood as I write this, I'm about a week in without any corrupted game files and almost no crashing. I continue to make progress and save it on a flash drive. I believe (in my case at least) the corrupt game file can be attributed to one thing - unlocking certain parts. In my first couple of play thrus that became corrupted, the common denominator was unlocking and using the parts to scan for ore. On my most recent play thru, I have intentionally avoided unlocking the tiers that allow for scanning. As I said, I'm at an astonishing almost week of play in without a data corruption and hardly any crashing. I do need to give the caveat that I did have one game save where I saved the game to my flash drive, only to find out the game immediately corrupted afterwards and my save was corrupted as well. My theory is that the corruption happened just before I saved the game to the flash drive. I believe this because my corruptions mostly happened after completing space flights and returning to Kerbin. That is exactly what I did when I then rushed to save the game, only to realize I saved a corruption. I now only save to the flash drive before I boot the game. I also backup the save to PC just in case I again save a corrupted save. In my opinion and because of my experience, I believe the corrupt game files are a result of certain parts either being unlocked or used. At this point I have ceased unlocking new parts until a patch is released. I am enjoying the game far too much to go back to being frustrated. Besides, I have lots to do and learn with the parts I have available. On a different note, there’s so much bashing of the console port on this forum. I get the frustrations with bugs, crashing, and especially corrupted data. Believe me, I get it! But I also want to share that this is my first experience with KSP which is not possible on my old piece of junk PC. I downloaded the demo on it and it ran like dog crap. Also, the control scheme seemed absurd to me on PC! I imagine that’s what PC veterans experience even watching someone try to manipulate the game on PS4. Yes, they need to let us invert controls. Hitting L2 for thrust up and R2 for thrust down… hitting left to go right when I’m docking and vice versa… it’s ridiculous, but I like the game enough that I’ve adjusted. The learning curve on the controller is steep but it’s completely doable, and will get even better after the bugs get squashed. So far I have: Orbited, done several back and forth missions to the Mun and Minmus, made a failed but close attempt at Duna, built a flyable space plane, and rendezvoused and docked several ships. I am HOOKED. I cannot wait for a patch so I can start mining and colonizing. Sorry for the long post. So sorry that I will now summarize: Save game to a flash drive before each play. Periodically backup your flash drive save to a PC / external device. Be wary of downloading or unlocking too many parts. KSP is like crack but with worse withdrawal.
  17. I'm on PS4. When this happens I usually have to exit it to the space center (which it seems forces a save of the flight), then close the game and reopen. Seems to be worse when large ships are involved.
  18. Is there a button combination to copy parts in build mode? Or one to undo the last change? Or one to at least release the part you just selected? So frustrating trying to build and not having these available.
  19. I purchased a flash drive just for backing up my game save. I do it each time before I start up the game. I lost everything within a few hours of starting previously as well.
  20. I'm unsure how the quick saves even work in general. When I try to "quick load", I see the same 10 or so game saves. I can't tell which save is from which flight. When I try to quick load I usually get switched to a different flight.
