The arm with the grabbers on rotates (all the reaction wheels are on a free spinning axle) so it can either be stowed onto the truck (don't go though a spawn without it attached) or swung around to grab larger (and possibly smaller) planes to assist with ground moving, like turning as you say. It could do with an IR docking washer on each on the grabbers, which is why I haven't done the craft file yet - wanna get it working well before release!

So, I made a concept vehicle for KEA - not actually an aircraft, but if I get it right KEA will want 100 or more! I've noticed in some reviews things like ground handling, taxi etc were addressed - and in many cases there were difficulties encountered. Andetch is proud to bring you the concept vehicle, aptly named Tow Truck 1, designed to tow in those un-taxi-able airliners. It can also be used to bring aircraft to and from the runway in populated areas where noise can be an issue. Getting it to lock properly was a pain - not helped by the fact I forgot to engage the parking brake on Mr Tiddles, hence the skewered angle... but when it works properly, it will be a useful support vehicle for any airline Hope you don't mind taking a look at the concept - I had to find a use for the stock motor i've made! haha

SSTO Like a Caveman - The Video! Celebrating the first Kerbal to succeed in piloting a true SSTO Spaceplane to LKO and back!
-
Not exactly... More like spin out then hit the ground in a controlled way flying backwards at 40m/s - I got some issues somewhere, that I think I have resolved. Will make a video later I just had to reconfigure the original SSTO I posted, and yeah I landed that! Nearly on the runway too! Just doing a quick edit on the video now EDIT: Here is the video.... Hope this is worthy of a K-Prize @boolybooly! https://kerbalx.com/Andetch/Cave-SSTO

The monoprop is included in the cockpit.. The thruster is tech level with the research lab lvl1, no upgrade, it's a place anywhere RCS thruster, not a rcs engine that is controlled by throttle and staged. Thought caveman was no facilities upgrade?

KEA(R) Airliner Size/Speed/Range War
Andetch replied to Kebab Kerman's topic in KSP1 Challenges & Mission ideas
Yeah, I am never going to be able to compete with stock parts and no resize style mods.... I am pretty much at the limits of what I can do with out "MAHJICK" -
The Cave SSTO by Andetch https://kerbalx.com/Andetch/Cave-SSTO A genuine caveman tech spaceplane! There is a single mono-prop thruster on the nose, so don't worry if all you fuel is used getting into orbit... You wont be stranded! Can you handle the challenge?

So I got this - my cave SSTO Most of us can put together a SSTO, so I wanted to challenge myself. I've made a caveman SSTO. So here it is, my cavman ssto entry! https://kerbalx.com/Andetch/Cave-SSTO https://imgur.com/a/RYxwn

Yes, I understand that you pull it round on the elevators. I know how to fly -
KEA(R) Airliner Size/Speed/Range War

The reason you need yaw control in a bank is to counter the natural tendency for the nose to point down slightly... Probably due to drag and gravity? With my (or anyone else's) smaller, more responsive planes (Night Fury) you can bank at 90 degrees, and use pitch to pull the plane round the corner then yaw control to put the nose up or down! So you can corkscrew. Also, yaw is essential for recovering a flatspin. -

No, I turn with a roll, usually around 45 degree angle, and keep the nose up with the rudder while yanking it round with the pitch control. -
Karman Crossing Challenge! This challenge is simple (maybe). Using only air breathing engines you must get as high as you can. The KSC has been instructed to develop a means of getting thrill seeking kerbals into space without rocket engines! Why? Why not! Launch from either VAB or SPH. You must cross the Karman line (70KM) Only air breathing engines allowed, no nukes, no srb, no lfo engines! Use parachutes on the way down if you want. Staging allowed. Any mods used please declare it. Scores to be worked out by; (part count * cost)/height achieved = score (With two decimal places) lower scores are better! For a landing at KSC or Island Runway, subtract 1 from the total score. You may not crash to claim the bonus! All parts launched must be landed (but you can separate and land parts separately if you have the vessel control mods). Death trap class is okay. More kerbals = more kudos Post your submission with picture showing; Vehicle in the VAB/SPH with part count and cost showing. F3 readout of height achieved. Any pictures of the flight you want to add. Craft file/kerbalx link if you have it. To prove landings, please also submit a picture of your vehicle on takeoff, and landed after mission. https://kerbalx.com/Andetch/Karaman-Crosser My Entry - Stock I completely crashed the landing, leaving only the pod and some scattered debris on the runway. My score: 3.21 17,795 * 20 = 355,900 355,900/110,956 = 3.2075777786 No landing modifier Leader board: @Marschig with -0.87 @hoioh with - 0.24 @TaRebelSheep with 2.77 @Lisias with -0.64 @Bitrefresh with 0.84 Me, 3.21

KEA(R) Airliner Size/Speed/Range War
Andetch replied to Kebab Kerman's topic in KSP1 Challenges & Mission ideas
Why thanks! :-) I only wish I could make it fly better, lol.... It takes so long to turn around and try and approach ksc again, I've only ever landed on terrain. I am pleased with the less than 80 m/s lift-off speed though, never thought it would be possible! -
A quick note to the judges - i've updated Mr Tiddles as the authority input on one of the control surfaces was set incorrectly causing it to lack pitch sensitivity. I also added an extra pair of control surfaces. You can now safely* retract the landing gear at speeds below 80 m/s! And when you try and land it, make sure you don't have full fuel! *using the word "safely" in a very loose sense....

KEA(R) Airliner Size/Speed/Range War
Andetch replied to Kebab Kerman's topic in KSP1 Challenges & Mission ideas
Try this out for size and fly-ability.... Mister Tiddles! https://kerbalx.com/Andetch/ADXL-Mister-Tiddles 808 passengers by my count, and stock. -
Superjumbo Entry Andetch is pleased to offer you the latest in aggressively styled supersonic super-jumbo Kerbal transporters. Featuring a private berth for the inflight crew to recharge and change-over during long haul flights, plenty of power for all those in flight entertainment systems and a really, really, pointy nose the ADXL promises to be the Super-jumbo to set the standard. Even the rear cabins should be quiet and vibration free using our patent pending, "put a load of tanks in-between" methodology. Fully laden this beast is almost 300 tons! We would also like to thank Kerbal Express Airlines for their continued custom, and are pleased to inform them that we have listened to their concerns regarding previous purchases and are working on revised designs. Name: ADXL "Mister Tiddles"* https://kerbalx.com/Andetch/ADXL-Mister-Tiddles Price: K 382,348,000 fully fuelled. Seating: 800, plus additional 8 berth cabin for in flight crew. Range: 2,500 KM + ** Cruise: 800 m/s + at 20,000 + Max Turn Angle: 45 degree Lift-off Speed: 80m/s - 90 m/s Pilot Notes: After getting airborne immediately level off as the wheels come up and allow the speed to reach 130 m/s. After 140 m/s you can commence some turns at no more than a 45 degree bank angle. Once you are pointed towards the destination airport, commence the climb to cruise phase. Speed minimum 160 m/s climb at 25 degree nose angle to 6000. Climb and accelerate at 15 degrees nose angle to desired cruise altitude and speed. Spins are very possible from being excessively violent with the yaw and roll control. Be warned. * It was named after the design engineers pet kat. The front reminded him of whiskers.... **Cruising a few KM higher than 20KM increases range substantially!

Ok, thanks for the advice. I appreciate that some of my planes were not the easiest to fly, as I do like them to be "interesting" also....

Seeing as this thread is gaining traction again, I may address some of the reviewer issues in my offerings... But I was wondering a few things. Firstly, I seem to get better take-off speeds, spin recovery and lower landing speeds than the judges. For example, I can get my jumbo entry touching down at around 50 - 60 m/s yet the reviewer claimed higher. With my Chalduro design, I can recover a flat spin within 600 metres, and it only spins if you force it anyway. Lot's of other little things... So anyway, if I wrote out detailed instructions, or made instruction videos, would it help? How do you guys actually fly these things? Do you have a set of flight maneuvers that you attempt? (Subsonic loop, supersonic low altitude/high altitude loop*, immelman turn, high G bank, deliberate stall/prop hang, etc etc etc)

SSTO Tylo No Refueling Or Docking
Andetch replied to DAL59's topic in KSP1 Challenges & Mission ideas
Well if it counts as "stock" then maybe we could be onto solving this one? -
Unless of course the fabled admin can do something...... @RedPandaz there is no reason why you should not work on something similar.... It is a concept that has bugged me since day 1 of realizing that the MkII body parts give passive lift! Initially I was working on the idea that you can block off some LF tanks as ballast to keep the COM/COL aligned, but actually the canard is sufficient to move the COL to where it needs to be... Next step of course is making a multi layered or delta wing style version

Who Liked Wings Anyway? Andetch Industries ADX-WTFWT? Andetch has always believed in innovative ideas to save Kerbin's airlines money, and now we believe we have cracked it! No wings. Yes that's right, no wings. We never really believed all that mumbo jumbo about wings anyway, and are proud to release our newest in what will hopefully become a new range in Kerbal transportation! This jet is aimed at the low passenger count, high distance routes with long runways.... that also want to stay in contact with the ground, and any passing spacecraft at all times. We also felt that doubling up as a small power station was a good feature, so we added that too. It also has a place for the passengers baggage. As far as the take-off speeds are concerned, your pilots could never seem to get the same results we do, so let's just say "fast". Also, same for the range, so lets just say "long"..... Carries 16 passengers though, that we can agree on. Hope you have fun testing this.... I am looking forward to hearing the reasons why Kerbal Express Airlines will not be buying any - things such like "passengers really prefer it if planes have wings" etc. https://kerbalx.com/Andetch/ADX-WFTWT
