  1. This might be oversimplifying this quite a bit but why don\'t we find the creature size to CM size ratios for humans and then translate it over to the Kerbals? Should be a lot easier than trying to do it without a real reference.
  2. Well, maybe slingshots won\'t work for our Martian analogue, but what about farther out planets?
  3. Oh my word. I always thought subjecting my Kerbals to over 15 G\'s on reentry from a Mun mission was enough to kill them, but then I see this guy sustained over 40 and LIVED!!
  4. 'Oxidized iron'. 'Rusted iron' is redundant. Why does this even matter to me? No idea. OT: I have a feeling patched conics will help a lot with getting to other planets, although I forsee myself utilizing MechJeb for the first few launches to the new planets until I can feel confident enough to do it myself. According to earlier replies to my post the 'Wait until planet comes up over Kerbin\'s limb and burn' method won\'t work for objects in orbit around Kerbol, only objects orbiting the same object you\'re orbiting. In that case I believe heavy use of Minmus to perform Orbital slingshots will be the only way to do repeated missions there without using too much fuel.
  5. I\'d pull a Stephen Baxter\'s 'Voyager' (hadn\'t read the book but I saw a video of a Mars landing detailed in it) and build a huge propulsion stack in orbit (via docking of course), then launch the rocket containing the other parts of the mission, dock it to the propulsion stack and use the propulsion stack\'s large supply of fuel to do a Trans-Martian Insertion. No fancy slingshots, no math, just wait for the planet to rise over Kerbin\'s limb and burn.
  6. Thanks for the replies! I\'ll try your suggestions. I was thinking of adding canards but I thought that would make it too unstable on liftoff as the whole design is meant for vertical ascent (two stages, I just removed the first stage to make it more presentable).
  7. Hey guys, so I\'ve been attempting to build an orbiter capable of unpowered descent like the Shuttles, but I\'ve hit a snag. The ship will refuse to pitch up once we get into denser atmospheres and I can no longer control it. The vehicle I used is shown below with a payload in between the two main fueltanks (design loosely inspired by WhiteOwl\'s AT-9). Any tips on how to stabilize its descent?
  8. That\'s how it\'s always going to be, then. Humans are a destructive, violent species. If war and violence is the only thing that our existence will amount to, then... well, that\'s just depressing, honestly.
  9. I noticed that a lot of spacecraft creations and discussions on this forum involve war and weaponizing vehicles. It\'s kind of saddening, the real US space program took a back seat to war and defense, and it looks like that\'s happening here too, but fictional and on a smaller scale. Personally, I\'m looking forward to an RP board that isn\'t full of violence and warmongering. The point of KSP is exploration, not waging war against anyone you don\'t agree with. That\'s what real politics are for.
  10. Did it, and the Kerbals even lived to tell the tale. Landed at Minmus. Takeoff from Minmus Landed at Mun. Note MET, this was during the same mission. Takeoff from Mun. Kerbin approach. Again, note MET. Home! Total mission time 22 days, 6 hours, 44 minutes and 16 seconds.
  11. I just got done with a mission to land on Minmus, then land on the Mun and return safely to Kerbin. Am I the first? Images (watch the MET): Landed at Minmus. Takeoff from Minmus Landed at Mun. Note MET, this was during the same mission. Takeoff from Mun. Kerbin approach. Again, note MET. Home! Total mission time 22 days, 6 hours, 44 minutes and 16 seconds.
  12. Easy! (Mostly!) Tried getting there with a stock spaceplane but the air physics in this version of the game are too wonky for me to be able to put a rocket powered plane into orbit. Even with a mothership I had trouble getting up there. Rocket tanks are too heavy, everything tends to explode, at 10,000 m the plane starts to level out and fall back down and there\'s only a 1 in 3 chance of actually taking off...
  13. Just had a mission where I was testing out the Deep Space parts pack and I had just thrown together a rough vehicle to take to the Mun. On the way to orbit I lost all but one of the ZO2 PowerTech solar panels much to my mild horror. However after a brief moment in Kerbin\'s shadow while in orbit, there were so many ZO2 tanks onboard the vessel that the lost ZO2 was relatively little so I figured one solar panel was enough. I oriented my ship prograde and was about to activate MechJeb\'s Mun transfer maneuver (I\'m perfectly capable of doing it myself but MechJeb is easier) when I noticed a part drifting by that just happened to look like my current vehicle\'s engine... somehow it had come loose and the vessel became stranded in LKO. A daring rescue mission ensued that ended in complete success thanks to MechJeb\'s new Rincomp integration that allowed me to perform my first rendezvous ever. I was pretty proud when the rescue capsule touched down intact. In fact I still am. Can\'t wait for real missions to be implemented.
  14. Planets are planned to be released all at once, but they don\'t know what version they\'re going to appear in. From what I\'ve read they\'re waiting for certain code changes to be made to the base game before even thinking about adding new planets.
  15. My experiences aren\'t really all that spectacular, but I did get a kick out of watching an equatorial mission pass within only a few km of a polar mission.
  16. Nice! Of course the comments section is just one big flame war as usual, but it\'s amazing to see this 'obscure' indie game picking up steam in the gaming world. We might have another Minecraft situation on our hands.
  17. Can we still use time warp? I\'m not about to sit here for an hour waiting to see if I actually got a real orbit.
  18. Alright, I have to ask. What part did you use to build that craft like that? I\'ve been looking for that for ages and I still don\'t know what mod it\'s a part of and where to get it. EDIT: Nevermind, I found it, or rather something similar. Figures I\'d find it right after I ask.
  19. You\'re kidding me, I went in that direction countless times testing my C7 planes. That\'s a new addition, no doubt about it.
  20. Okay, I\'m pretty sure that tracking station at the other KSC was not there in 0.14.3. I\'m thinking Harv saw how much fun we were having finding the monoliths and decided to add more.
  21. Apparently the monoliths aren\'t restricted to the Mun. This one isn\'t exactly 'hidden.' Dafuq!? Geez! What do you mean it\'s not hidden? I\'ve been goofing around on at least two continents and haven\'t seen anything like that.
  22. 0X10c is the game I\'ve been waiting my whole life for. Specifically, it\'s these parts that I\'m most looking forward to: [li]Hard science fiction.[/li] [li]Fully working computer system.[/li] [li]Space battles against the AI or other players.[/li] [li]Abandoned ships full of loot.[/li] [li]Seamlessly landing on planets.[/li] [li]Advanced economy system.[/li] [li]Random encounters.[/li] [li]Mining, trading, and looting.[/li] [li]Single and multi player connected via the multiverse.[/li] That\'s not the full list of things he put on the site, just the ones I\'m excited for. Does 'sense of originality' really even mean anything anymore? I guarantee you and will even be willing to bet money (lots of it) on the fact that everything that you thought was original that was created in the last three decades definitely has ideas rooted in earlier work. I guarantee that with a confidence level of 110%.
