Docking - I just don't get it
Serenity replied to lugge's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
Very helpful posts. I used to fear docking until i realized it was a simple mini game played by the navball. Just make sure as others said, to control from your port and target the port you want to dock. Then align these two docking ports very roughly, no need to be an exact straight line or close to each other. After that switch to Docking Mode with RCS on and only, ONLY watch your navball.(With docking mode you can use wasd, shift, ctrl keys to move, makes it easier trust me). The mini game is to make the target icon overlap your prograde icon and keep it centered there at all time. Watch your speed and boom, docked. It may sound a bit complicated but if you trying to figure out docking without using ONLY the navball then you will never make it a routine part of your game. -
For me its simple: High inclination change: best way to do it is while launching the rocket. Low inclination change: dont bother with raising apoapsis, wont be much of a gain, just do it with the height your vessel needs to be. If you are already circularized and you cant spare the delta v to brute force the change then you might consider using other planets/moons. Check this for some answers :

When you right click other parts do the options come up? Like deploying landing gear, opening payload bays, with right click, inside VAB or in flight?

Orbit Changing During Timewarp
Serenity replied to blackxhk_army's topic in KSP1 Technical Support (PC, unmodded installs)
Have you tempered with the ingame settings? Like turning off Orbital drift Compensation or Ease in gravity? If yes that might be the problem cause they should be always on. I just hope your savegame is not corrupted, i dont want to scare you but if you have an older backup and cant figure out the problem you might need to see if thats the issue.Except if you had this problem since the start.Good luck. -
Orbit Changing During Timewarp
Serenity replied to blackxhk_army's topic in KSP1 Technical Support (PC, unmodded installs)
Try before the warp to turn off SAS and RCS and switch Hibernation in Warp to auto.(And even deactivate the engines in case there is some weird thrust bug). Also right before you warp check again if your orbit/speed is stable and the one you aiming for. Sometimes even the shortest bursts of RCS cause massive changes to your transfer orbit. After that i really cant think of something else. -
Orbit Changing During Timewarp
Serenity replied to blackxhk_army's topic in KSP1 Technical Support (PC, unmodded installs)
Do you have RCS on during these timewarps? Sometimes i find it the cause of such problems. -
Usually large inclination changes are done during the ascent of the rocket. In real life there are some rare cases that reaching a high apoapsis first and then changing inclination is more efficient, in Kerbal though i doubt there is anything like that. I am not very experienced with orbital mechanics but i know that if you want to change the inclination after you circularized then in no way you can be more fuel efficient than doing the inclination change during the ascent. In the end if you are in orbit and want to do an inclination change its gonna cost you a lot no matter how high is your apoapsis. It might be a bit better but the cost to get that apoapsis(and then lower it again) will negate most of the gain. Maybe there are some more advanced orbital mechanics that you can use(with other planets etc) but thats what i gathered for Kerbal from various sources.

Do you have SAS enabled the moment they magnetize?Maybe just maybe that is the problem.I am out of ideas.

Before 1.4.3 i blamed myself everyday that i switched to 1.4.
-
Last weeks been so rough for me as well.I haven't touched the game until 1.4.3.It was so so bad.The recent update though, gave me hope and energy for this game again. Its one of these high pain high reward situations . I hope it happens the same with you as well.

Happy to help.Just remember to backup your saves every once and awhile to avoid loosing too much in case something breaks.

I feel your frustration and i had my share of it recently but games have bugs, the question is if we can fix/overpass them relatively easy. You have an '''easy'' solution, cheat to orbit the ships(one by one not docked together) and boom, it will be fixed and hopefully never happen again. Also any outdated mods might cause problems so thats always in the program.

This is the best i can find if you are experiencing an old bug(usually happens when you quicksave in the middle of the undocking/docking procedure): Go to your saves folder and open with notepad persistent.sfs(make sure you back it up first!!!!) Then ctrl+f put the name of the vessel and find the specific docking port. Here are some quick instructions of what you need to change. If the port is undocked and not in ''ready state'' then its bugged. Note that its probably gonna be bugged forever so after undocking you would have to do this all over again. Edit: Scroll down in this page, the link yeah it doesnt work but in the end there are few instructions.

When ingame hit Escape--> Settings--> Difficulty Options--> Allow other Launchsites, its in the first screen you get. After that when you hover your mouse a bit under the launch button the options should pop up. Maybe it should be on by default and whoever needs extra challenge could just turn it off.

Try launching a simple vessel with a docking port just to see if it can dock there. If its still not possible then it might be these two things: 1)The docking port you are trying to dock is bugged, stucked. There are two solutions to this, one is editing the port to switch it to ''Ready'' state(try google to find how, it might be tricky) or launch the bugged vessel again(alt+f12 helps). 2)One of your mods that has to do with docking and ports is interfering for some reason(the closest to mind comes to a mod that requires the ports to be alligned even in the rotation axis).

Can you explain this a bit more? I haven't started building anything serious with planes but that sounds important. They dont create more drag/lift at all no matter how i place, angle or rotate them? Or you meant something else?

Do you have a single copy of Kerbal, do you have the old files somewhere else, or did you use to play without steam? Cause then you need to find the old files and copy them to the new location the game installed. Inside saves folder you can find your careers, with each having the name when you created them.Inside its everything you need to backup/restore a career. When you open the game and try to load a career, everything inside the folder should be there to select it. If not try this: 1) Start a new clean fresh career with a new name in the same mode as your old one.(Science or sandbox or normal, this is important you have to choose the same one as the one you want to recover). 2) Save your game and exit. 3) Go to Browse local files again, enter the saves folder, enter your OLD gamename folder and copy everything from inside. 4) Go back in the saves folder and enter the NEW gamename folder and copy paste the files from step 3. After that Start the game and try to load the career that has the new fresh name. I am sorry that this sounds like really complicated but i am confused with the info you given and thats the best i can explain, help to overcome your problem. Maybe someone will know whats going on and if you give more info, it might help. Good luck.

Go to Steam Library, right click on Kerbal Space Program --->Properties-->Browse Local Files---> saves folder has all your careers and all your ships/crafts and Gamedata folder has your mods. Copying those two folders will fully backup your savegames. Just make note if a career was saved in x86(32bit) it probably wont work in 64 bit and the other way around(The ships will probably work). Also when you opened Kerbal from steam in 1.3, you had to select manually to launch in 64 bit but now its the default option. The second one is the 32 bit edition and if you selected it by accident then that might be the problem.

Could be but i also know for sure that sometimes docking ports get bugged and the only way to fix it, is to launch the bugged vessel again. I would suggest using the alt+f12 cheat menu to launch and rendervouz the same vessel again and if that doesnt work remove any parts close to the docking port and try it one more time. Edit, and what bewing said .
-
Did you try pulling the vessels further away so the ports can reset? Sometimes after a failed docking you need to get away and start over for them to work. Maybe that will help. Also i noticed you have some mods, i remember one mod that made ports to be aligned even in rotation to dock.

FL-A215 for Gemini look?
Serenity replied to Jestersage's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
A bit out of context answer, you could also try using fairings to create more accurate designs in some cases. Fairings can close when they attach to a fuel tank or any part(even close to another fairing). Example https://imgur.com/a/bN6G8TY You can play around with the fairing shape and hide/design almost everything with that trick. As for the best adapter i hope someone replies since i have zero experience in building historical vessels. -
Have you tried changing the hibernation setting?Maybe you experiencing some weird bug with that option. Can you toggle SAS/RCS right after you end the warp? Also check your difficulty settings and play around with turning off the signal require and toggling some infinite cheats with alt+f12, for fuel and or electricity, see if that makes any difference.

Volume of a particular vessel
Serenity replied to Sorabh's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
A post that might help a bit: -
Grandparent is better but if you always go with it you need to be extra thoughtful in the design. Putting just a few heavy ones might increase the risk of woble and explosions but it will be easier in the long term to keep it stable enough to be realistic. So yeah, grandparent is the key but i believe some good heavy ones are also important if you building something big.
