@Jake_IV @Zhetaan Thanks for the feedback! Some are set to heaviest part, some are set to grandparent part and some are set to root. There is however a little part clipping between some of the fuel tanks. Not much but still.. -

Yes i am aware of the staging and throttling sequence. I was refering to the rather high possible twr. Does this aid effeciency in any way or is this excessive? Because i just don't think it's neccesary. The engines are throttleable so i don't see any downsides. My question is: is there an upside? -

I think this is awesome, don't get me wrong. But is all this thrust not a little bit excessive when there isn't any more fuel on board? Are there any benefits from having such a high twr? -

we have had a hopper test fire. -
I think the kerbals should have a means of returning but this shouldn't dominate this challenge. It is suposed to be a colony after all.

Konkord's New Groove
Flying dutchman replied to TimberWolffe's topic in KSP1 Challenges & Mission ideas
Mine is designed to fly on a sub orbital trajactory up to 60 km so i think thats the main difference but yeah i mean when you have to ferry six kerbals in the most aerodynamic way possible you take the 1.25m crew cabins. And when you want it to be able to take a little more heat you put a fairing around it. Rapier is great for it's thrust and the possibility of a closed cycle mode so thats pretty much the way to go. Then of course you want minimal wing surfaces so you'll have to deal with less drag. so i get why our designs look similar, it's form dictated by function -

i did a 9 minutes and 19 seconds run all manually flown. i will upload the craft file but i hope it works since i'm using restock. -

I did 9 minutes 45 aprox but i didn't land it exactly on the runway. I will not be entering this just yet but it was done all manually. Edit: i can do this quicker since i end up above the airport at 7 minutes 30 but i keep overshooting. -

I think it's great they are not putting too much effort into the hopper anymore. The real mountain to climb here is keeping this thing stable through reentry and flipping it before landing. I think that is what makes or breaks this spaceship and i can't wait for them to begin testing this. -

They could theoretically go fully expendable.. that thing can put something like 63 (metric?) Tons in to leo. Perhaps they can launch it all in one go and then bring the crew up with dragon. But perhaps the fairing is a bit too small for that, idk.. -
