Orion is perhaps a weak engine for interstellar flights. I plan to use it as an engine for an interplanetary large spaceship with strong radiation protection. Orion is very heavy, and for him it is not a problem, it can easily transport 300-500 tons of residential modules that are well protected from radiation. You just need to add more nuclear granules.

KSP Interstellar Extended Support Thread
OOM replied to FreeThinker's topic in KSP1 Mods Discussions
"A rough diamond that must be processed to shine." Probably the best philosophical explanation of KSP. Whatever it was, but KSP 2 capabilities are greater, some textures of parts such as fuel tanks and Daedalus are already present in the game, which will reduce the work on creating models. In addition, they said, KSP2 is better suited to modding than KSP1. -

KSP Interstellar Extended Support Thread
OOM replied to FreeThinker's topic in KSP1 Mods Discussions
Unfortunately, KSP2 will be worse than interstellar. I bet on my lightsaber that KSP2 will become a children's arcade. By the type of "Technology of the near future" The main advantage of Interstellar is its realism, each engine is unique, and the output power of reactors and generators depends on many factors, such as poisoning or heating. -

Good evening I would like to clarify a certain misunderstanding. The description of the mod indicates that the details of the KSP-I have a scale for the real world, but in fact everything scales for Kerbin. Take for example the Molten Salt Reactor - it has a thermal power of 1000 mW (1 gW) and weighs about 12 tons. The question is how can a 12-ton reactor have such power? Yes, I know that the Reactor on Salt Melts is very powerful, but not to that extent. A real-life example, Russia has an outline of a fast fast neutron reactor (helium-xeon mixture cooling), the temperature of the reactor is 1500K, worse than Molten Salt but not by much. This reactor has a thermal power of 3.8 mW and weighs 7 tons. It turns out that the weight of 1000 mW of the salt-melting reactor should be at least 100-120 tons but not as much as 12 tons as it weighs now. After that, do you still recommend installing RSS mods and scaling everything to a real size? -

OOM replied to Andi K.'s topic in KSP1 Mod Releases
Kepler-62f should be forgotten. 1207 light years cannot be overcome beyond a reasonable limit without a warp engine. And the realities of KSP will not allow such a distance. I would add another LHS1140b to the list. This planet is especially interesting in that it not only is in the habitable zone but also has a high density and a huge iron core, which creates a powerful magnetosphere.- 351 replies

The KSP Interstellar Proxima Centauri Challenge
OOM replied to FreeThinker's topic in KSP1 Challenges & Mission ideas
What kind of monsters are these with speed relative to the light? In any case, so many DeltaVs come in handy for this mod. -

Hmm, I need to work on this. I will try as fast as possible. -
The KSP Interstellar Proxima Centauri Challenge

General Kenobi? The ship started of course through the cheat menu. In real life, it will be built in parts using reusable SSTO. Max delta-V: 38767142 m/s Price: 4,748,906,000 $ Interstellar ship dry mass: 1,113,000 t Interstellar ship wet mass: 7,915,000 t Total travel time: 33-46-66 years (The real distance to Alpha Centauri, Barnard, Sirius) Num. max of passegers and crew: The ship is unmanned. The crew consists of inspector droids. Their number may be different. Although in the command block above the supercomputer there is a spacious place sufficient to accommodate a live team in a frozen form. But this is not entirely realistic, since Daedalus is an unmanned ship. Today made a test flight to nowhere. Due to the large mass on the bend, slight instability is possible, but it disappears after the maneuver. There were also problems with fuel cell compartments of the second stage. They parted with the explosion, which, nevertheless, the ship survived The speed with which I started: 29512 m / s After burnout, stage 1: 17562149 m / s (acceleration time 1 year 75 days) After burning out, stage 2: 38767149 m / s (acceleration time 4 years). A result of 5 years and 153 days was necessary to achieve the required speed. PS. How to attach a ship file here? -
NERVA \ LANTR - Useless engine. Anything worse than this engine. Well or this useless trash Need more core temperature! and deltas of at least 40,000 m / s.

Will jet and chemical engines look nice
OOM replied to SpaceFace545's topic in Prelaunch KSP2 Discussion
Rocket-chemical engines are useless everywhere, except for one thing - to lift something into orbit. Therefore, 1 universal chemical rocket engine running on hydrogen \ methane (with the ability to scale) will be enough. -
The KSP Interstellar Proxima Centauri Challenge
OOM replied to FreeThinker's topic in KSP1 Challenges & Mission ideas
Weight: 7.915.00 t 165 pieces 2 of my favorite molten salt reactors are used as a source of electricity. Electric power: Stage 2: 68 MW Stage 1: 298 MW Daedalus is built, and now I do not know what to do with it. I will wait for the release of a new mod on realistic Exoplanets. I think this ship will be able to fly to Alpha Centauri in 50 years (with a realistic distance of 4.3 light years) I also think that 4 robots will accompany Daedalus, as in the original project. Unfortunately, Radeon ReLive recorded video in about 24 frames, although the game felt 50-60 frames. -

Why is the new liquid metal reactor located in some strange place called Utility, and not directly in Electronics? -
The magnetic nozzle is not an engine. It can be connected to different reactors and get different types of engines, so disputes are useless. It can be a nuclear plasma rocket or tokamak.

KSP Interstellar Extended Continued Development Thread
OOM replied to FreeThinker's topic in KSP1 Mod Development
KSP 2 is coming soon. Are you planning to make a new mod for a new game? Yes, the same Daedalus will be there. But I'm not sure what will be of scientific accuracy, as you have. -
Thanks, thanks to simple manipulations in the notebook, I finally got rid of this random function. My central nervous system has finally cooled down.

How to disable parts malfunctions? Because in the realities of the capabilities of KSP this is a completely superfluous function.

It will be amazing only because of the graphics. The original KSP is no worse with mods. https://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/index.php?/topic/172026-173161151145131-ksp-interstellar-extended-1229-support-thread/

I docked the landing module with the orbital carrier without correction engines (RSC because I FORGOT them to deliver) I think I deserve to play KSP 2 Orion has long been in the original KSP

I want to start the Daedalus engine (there is power and fuel), but when time accelerates, he tells me: Propellant depleted
