  1. Haha, I'll forfeit all of these for a simple Commander Boyle (R. Alan Boyle) . Thanks, thanks. Can we get a map view of your next leg? I can't tell where you are. I'm hoping more will join the challenge. Is my signature working now?
  2. Are you talking about motors and propellers, or some kind of glitch powered device? Got a link? I've never seen an airplane built with the Breaking Ground parts go faster than 230m/s. I'm hoping some of you can do better than that because I feel like it should be possible. Also, is my signature displaying correctly?
  3. Alright, My run comes in at 4 hours 55 minutes including 5 minutes of messing around at KSC at the start. She is electrically powered with RTGs and has no thrust aside from the rotors. The small aero surfaces are for stability and create a marginal amount of lift. It has no movable control surfaces.
  4. Unless something tragic happens, I should finish tonight before I go to bed. So, video tomorrow. The run will be between 4 and 5 hours but its been lagging pretty hard; around a quarter speed, so its been about 15 hours so far IRL...
  5. Updated to specifically outlaw this silliness. Like you, I want to see some practical aircraft. I generally find no reason to use propeller craft, which is too bad since I love them IRL.
  6. If someone has already created this, please post a link. I looked. Just a straight speed challenge: How fast can a prop driven electric craft move? Rules: Craft must be ELECTRICALLY powered. - This is for standardization. What goes up must come down, in one piece. No dropping parts. Your craft must land in one piece. I understand you might be a long way out over water or very high after completing your speed run, so it is acceptable to just fly around KSC and land to show that it can land without falling part. This is not a test to failure, if your craft falls apart trying to achieve high speed, then it doesn't count. The idea is to be repeatable. Your speed must be recorded in LEVEL flight. So, your screen shot needs to show your speed and your attitude. No additional propulsion is allowed. Just electric motors. No glitch drives or exploits, including the heatshield lift exploit. No extreme clipping/offset. Parts need to visibly attach. This is intended to cover a range of aero exploits... don't go looking for exploits, that's not the point. No physics/parts mods. DLC required.
  7. Another great run! You are back on top for Mun and Minmus. You made some interesting choices, I hadn't thought about pushing the booster all the way around the moon for the free return...
  8. Yeah, “video recording” was meant as a verb, not a noun. The video is currently recording. I will be flying directly west around the equator and would rather not stop. I figured no one would give me a hard time about the gps point since it’s purpose is to make sure you don’t take a shortcut at an extreme latitude. Also, since mine will be a video, it’ll be easier to see that it complies than a photo album would. And yeah, a superlative or something for fastest time might inspire more competition. What’s wrong with my signature? You are the first to tell me it isnt working correctly. Can anyone else verify?
  9. After 12 hours, I was half way around and Jeb got bored. There were just too many things to be improved. I went back to the drawing board and am now enroute at 230m/s. Still a rotorcraft without tilting parts or additional thrust but it looks less like a helo. I did fly it under the bridge and land it on the VAB before going west, just to prove it flew like a helo. video recording
  10. Well, I have a coaxial helicopter with no tail rotor and no forward or backward facing motors or propellers. It's forward and upward thrust is just the shared rotors on top. It cruises at about 50m/s at about 8,000m. It is electric and never lands. It is stable enough to be semi autonomous; so I just have to keep KSP running on my PC and check in every hour or so to adjust heading. We will see if she makes it all the way around...
  11. Why not just swap out those Junos for a couple Panthers and let'er rip?
  12. You are welcome to use an SSTO. I am not familiar with the one you mention. Note that SSTOs will not be very competitive due to the refurbishment cost of 50%.
  13. While making that last video I had lots of thoughts on increasing cost efficiency. I slightly upgraded my Jet Launch system and really maxed it out with a 24 ticket Mun/Minmus ship. I barely got it back under control before it was destroyed in the atmosphere! Because of economies of scale I got the Mun/minmus ticket price down to $770. Launch - 173,706; Jet Recovery - 146,209; Ship Recovery - 18035/2=9,017; Tickets - 24; Ticket Cost - 770
  14. Alright, I scaled up the suborbital jet launch system. The math ends up at $1,175/ticket (formula below) . I am very sure that with some finesse it can be under $1,000 but I'm more of a brute force guy. Launch - 138,265 Recover Jet - 125,258 Recover Ship - 7,211/2= 3,605 Tickets - 8 Ticket Cost = 1,175
  15. Okay @Beriev , I've decided to go for it. At least enough to merit making videos. Here is the video of my first launch.
  16. Okay, I've started and may keep after it. I made 71 science in the first launch and spent it all on the top line of R&D in order to unlock the terrier. I'm going to do it with 2 CRPUs, one short one with a terrier and one long one with a swivel.
  17. Alrighty, Here is my Hawker Harrier. I made a cinematic showcase video. It uses stock parts and I don't know how many points its worth but here you go.
  18. Okay, I didn't realize you were visiting multiple locations and then dividing the total cost among them. Upon review, I see that is what you did with Duna/Ike also. That is not the intention of this challenge. The intention is that tourists can buy a ticket to a destination and return. Using your method, a tourist who buys a ticket to Pol for $1,104 will be stranded their unless he also buys a ticket to Bop and Minmus for a total of $3,571. With that in mind, I will post your ticket price to Bop, Pol, and Minmus as $3,571 since that is the total cost of a safe round trip. I will also adjust Duna/Ike. However, I hate to see a successful mission go unappreciated so I will also open a "Multistop" category for missions like this. Maybe someone will do a budget friendly "Jool 5." I am going to limit this new category to "No ISRU," in order to keep it from taking away from the original intent, since that scenario is specifically addressed in the OP. Correct me if I have misunderstood your math.
  19. So, it’s $3,571 for a multistop ticket, landing at all of those places? Do I understand that correctly?
  20. So, do I have to unlock all of the tech that I want to use with just one launch? Thinking mostly about engines. With regard to the tech available, is there a difference between the rocket and the payload/ship? For example, can my swivel powered 1.25m tank fed, cluster rocket deliver (to orbit) a high tech Duna lander with high tech transfer stage? Or does it all have to be caveman?
  21. @Pds314 your math is too strong for me. I thought for sure being 7 times cheaper would earn a higher score. Oh well, I'll go at it again with an expensive craft and see what I can do.
  22. Okay, I'm not sure if I'm supposed to add the cost and thrust limit, or multiply. And I'm not sure if the thrust is 20, or 0.2. So I'll let you do that math. Cost is 13,343. All staged are thrust limited to 20%.
  23. Okay guys, Now that I'm all sobered up I looked at the video from the other night and thought we all might get a kick out of fail compilation. Here is Tall Boi 3 failing over and over again.
