Strawberry replied to stephensmat's topic in KSP2 Discussion
I guess this means that Planet 8 is basically unconfirmed alas.. -
What do you hope to see tomorrow.
Strawberry replied to Drakenred65's topic in Prelaunch KSP2 Discussion
If it is implemented I seriously doubt itd be easy to find, honestly Im guessing theres gonna be some sort of arg thing. -

If I buy tomorrow I plan on easter egg hunting, probably starting with duna pyramid and going from there, I want to find planet 8 if it exists -
All significant changes to the Kerbolar System:
Strawberry replied to Minmus Taster's topic in Prelaunch KSP2 Discussion
Maybe, honestly I doubt its life but liquid sulfur isn't nearly as transparent as water so I dont think it would reflect the sky as well? I assume theyve thought out a solution to make Eve purple and I wonder what that is, the clouds are semi semilar to iodine gas (though they appear to be brighter then iodine) so they could have gone with that idea. -

The fact that they chose liquid sulfur for Eves ocean is interesting because sulfur is yellow, the exact opposite of purple, and the oceans of Eve are very purple now. Unless.. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Purple_sulfur_bacteria -
Reading into KSP 2 EA Features/Non-Features
Strawberry replied to VlonaldKerman's topic in Prelaunch KSP2 Discussion
I wont be suprised if early on they were like "okay if this proves to be too hard we can just do it similar to ksp1 mods to where its not actually 4 light years apart". But then they realized they had the funding and ability to do that, scope increased, and then it just spiralled out of control from there -
Reading into KSP 2 EA Features/Non-Features
Strawberry replied to VlonaldKerman's topic in Prelaunch KSP2 Discussion
Should've clarified, they were the ones making the code for it. They weren't just stealing others code, they were adding code they made onto ksp1 as a testbed to test out features. It sounds like they were adding the code on the backend instead of the way mods add code, but it was still a heavily modified version of ksp1. -

This is going into massive speculation territory, but the recent Scott Manley dev interview posted on his interview said something that Ill take as evidence towards a theory I've heard (and added upon a bit) and one that I believe. Recently they mentioned early on that they were running essentially a heavily modded version of ksp1 as a testbed for ksp2, going into mostly pure speculation here, I wont be surprised if this prototype build was half intended to just be what ksp2 was. The pre alpha footage from PAX east very much looks like something you'd see in ksp1 graphically, I wont be surprised if it was basically just ksp1. This explains why the initial deadline was so ambitous, because in case a from scratch ksp2 engine failed, they could fall back on the skeletons of ksp1. Of course, even if they fully committed to going with just a built up ksp1, it would still likely get delayed. Still, from the perspective of the devs, they already had a version of ksp1 that had a good bit of the features working (though likely very much not in a performant and stable state), so how hard can it be finishing that off? Then Take two began taking devs from star theory, and only a third remained for Intercept games, this of course contributed to delays even further. I dont think this was the only factor here though, In the aforementioned Scott Manley interview, Nate Simpson mentions how getting that 90% of a feature done is easy and that 10% is really hard. I believe that this is one of the largest factors of the delays, I dont doubt that a good chunk of the features are in a working state, the issue is are they in a performant and stable state. I think the devs have been stuck in this state of okay we got the skeletons of a good system, how do we add flesh to it and make it work well, and each time they assumed that the time spent on the previous attempts would make the next go magically easier. So each time they assumed that it would be finished just around the corner, only for each time it being more complicated then they expected. This would explain (and is nearly explicit in the Scott Manley interview) why they're being so aloof about giving specific dates, they've learned from their mistakes and while theyre hoping they can get things along smoothly they know that chances are it wont go that way. -
It's important to note that we know that the resource system in ksp2 is much higher scope compared to ksp1, according to the dev diary about it, a big part of the design is for colonies such as allowing resources to change while parts aren't in view. This is probably why the lag from these calculations is much worse, its much harder to optimize this with the greater scope of this.
-
Im excited for how colonies will push us to design spacecraft not just to land on planetary bodies, but conquer them

In the intro video for ksp2, the narrator gets cut off before saying something. If you havent watched it yet, heres the video with where the text starts timestamped. It sounds like he's saying “these mysteries may soon reveal themselves due to the emergence of a recently found in kerbal space ship” or something similar before the copy breaking?? Am I hearing this wrong or is this lore Bit more into the speculation but the frame cuts off on this star system Now where have we seen something similar before... (tbf this image was literally just a random image in the background among others so this bit may be reading too much into things but yeah)

Kerbal Space Program 2 - Pre-Release Notes
Strawberry replied to Intercept Games's topic in KSP2 Dev Updates
The main speculation Ive heard about it is the big lag creator is joints, itd explain why the game especially slows when someone adds lots of struts. So in short for EA you probably shouldnt do asparagus staging -
Obsidian ant, I doubt its related as the rock that was chasing them happened when they entered dunas soi and the rock was red, so it probably was a duna asset that went rogue.

Most planets look great but a few of them could go with a few tweaks to look a lot better, while devs should definitely prioritize optimization and getting core systems working, I feel like focusing on planets looking good is important. It It was definitely a lot darker previously, I prefer that shade of purple much more then the pinkish one we have currently. I like the venus full cloud cover thing the current eve has going on, but I think itd look great with that shade of purple instead of the pink one we have currently. I think moho looks good, it just looks boring, Id like changes to spice up the surface and make it look more interesting.

Rocket noodling? Oh gods, not again...
Strawberry replied to Jarin's topic in Prelaunch KSP2 Discussion
Wobbly rockets just arent fun to deal with, the counterplay was adding struts which was just tedious -
Many of the beefed up nuclear reactor engines need lots of blockage, many of them require shadow shields specifically to block the radiation.
-
Hey I didnt feel like making a new thread so this is a megathread now enjoy. Currently moho is the most boring planet we have seen so far, its terrain doesnt have anything special and its all very samey. It's the planet probably in the most need of an overhaul, here are my takes on what would be an interesting direction to take it. " Personally Id recommend taking inspiration from the earliest ksp1 moho. Moho was planned to be a dark red volcano planet. The direction Id like to see moho taken is the current moho, but with regions of massive dark red volcanoes that bulge out of the surface. This would make the surface look much more varied and interesting.

Okay thoughts, there's a lot of little things that are nice about ksp2 (sound design is phenomenal), however the game is clearly unfinished and needs a lot more polish. Cautiously optimistic currently, think this game can do a lot of cool stuff, but certainly needs a lot more time in the oven. Personally what I plan on doing is waiting a few months for optimization and buying the game then.

Someone on discord pointed out this stream tomorrow, the corner picture appears to show him sitting at the computer during the event and while theres not many pictures of him he appeared to be at the event? So yeah embargo likely drops tomorrow morning
-
This is literally a community manager who works at intercept games and it was about a week ago after the event. I seriously doubt they changed the specifics of the NDA agreement midway through the event and when it was intended to expire because ??????.
