Granted. But out of curiosity you shine it into your own eyes and go blind because it was far more powerful than most laser pens. I wish I could afford a better computer for this.
-
Granted. NASA will have it working in a few more years. But it'll be so mired down with finances and politics that it'll never actually get used until well after you are far too old to enjoy the benefits of space travel. I wish the days were longer.

The login box that appeared after the hacked pages were removed was SQUAD's doing. At that point N3X15 and the rest of the tech team put the entire forum behind a stand alone login system so that they could work on it without exposing anyone else to the malware carried by the defaced site. Although it would be a good idea to do a full antimalware scan if you saw the defaced site especially if you clicked links on it. Subsequent analysis of the hacked version showed that it was packed with malware. Changing your passwords probably wouldn't hurt, but if you had only put them into the authentication box that appeared after the defaced site dissappeared you should be okay. By that point the relevant admins were on top of things and had already begun repairs.

Some reasons behind Cold Fusion's controversy
OdinYggd replied to JMBuilder's topic in Science & Spaceflight
Not only that, but there are actually multiple completely unrelated 'cold fusion' technologies. The one I am familiar with is muon catalyzed fusion, wherein muons are used to significantly lower the kinetic energy required for fusion to take place thus giving it the name 'cold' fusion. It doesn't work in that the muons are notoriously difficult to obtain, and don't last long enough for enough reactions to take place with them to make up the energy it takes to produce them. -

Banned because the forum had a minor rollback due to hacking shortly after reopening.

Granted. But then every day your mailbox overflows from all the junkmail that hadn't been getting delivered suddenly coming through. I wish my laptop wasn't randomly shutting off.

This is among the things that has been suggested a lot, and you can already get it from various game mods like infernal robotics. Please note that as such it is an item that is present on the "What Not to Suggest" list found here: http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/showthread.php/36863-What-not-to-suggest That list is comprised of suggestions that are made all the time and either are planned for future content without a set release date or will not be implemented as a stock feature.

Why do that when you can just do a beauty like this: 5x of the orange tank sized warehouses, 5x 16000L kethane tanks, with a quadcoupler 'expansion port' at one end and a sr port for the miner to dock at the other. I put that in mun orbit from a slightly smaller Orbital Construction platform that I was building that was beginning to have wobble problems. The older versions of EPL always seemed a little clunky to me, mainly because they were new at the time. OC just works smoother, bring everything I need up to the spacedock and let the machinery do its thing. I probably will try again with EPL though, using this spacedock to create and deploy EPL hardware to the surface to streamline Kethane harvesting operations.

Fukushima isn't closed loop yet- thus the accumulation of tanks full of contaminated water. Although they can keep it full of water, the water is constantly leaking out and has to be replaced, with the contaminated water that was removed being stored in the tanks outside confinement- where it is escaping and causing an environmental hazard.

There actually was an American accident some years before Chernobyl that drove home the value of containment buildings. Army reactor SL-1, which was destroyed when operator error during a maintenance procedure caused a nuclear excursion and steam explosion, blowing the lid of the reactor clean off. Sounds like Chernobyl right? It just so happens that the thick steel building surrounding it as extra shielding happened to be strong enough to confine the blast, keeping the vast majority of the radiation safely confined and comparatively easy to clean up after. All American reactor designs have had confinement ever since for this very reason, as all but the worst possible case scenarios will stay safely within the confinement area where they are much easier to mitigate. Fukushima's issue is the reactor was damaged enough to make it leaky, making it impossible to provide closed loop cooling inside the confinement space. They are being forced to run water once-through the reactor, and then store the contaminated byproduct in stand alone tanks scattered throughout the grounds. Soon as they can either defuel the reactor or get it back onto a closed loop cooling solution, they'll be able to do something about new radioactive materials escaping into the environment and concentrate on cleaning up those which already have.

I can assure you that yes, there are indeed girls here on KSP forums, having talked to few of them in my line of work as a moderator. But they seem to be quite the minority among the fanbase, likely for a variety of reasons most of which originate in offline life. No you aren't going to be hooking up with girls on here anytime soon, that's not what this forum is for.

1/10 First time seeing you, but you've been around I think

Banned because rescue missions are the best.

That signature is rather recognizable. 7/10

Have to factor in though, the containment at Fukushima did confine most of the nuclear materials. The radioactive materials that are getting out are almost entirely material that is dissolved in used cooling water- they still don't have a way to purify this water on site and have been merely storing it in tanks all around the premesis until such equipment could be made available. It is these tanks that are the sources of the leaks. Even with that major problem, the bulk of the long-lived nuclear materials have remained safely inside the reactor and pools where it belongs. What you are mostly dealing with is isotopes that are water soluble such as iodine and caesium that are easily carried by water- but also happen to be fairly easy to find and remove once the process equipment to do so is built. Tritium would be present as well, but probably not in a huge quantity now that the fuel is sub-critical and the water is not getting a huge amount of neutron irradiation. Also just found this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Onagawa_Nuclear_Power_Plant Apparently this power plant was in fact closer to the epicenter of the quake than Fukushima was, yet survived the earthquake with only minor damage none of which affected critical systems. And not only did it survive the quake, protected by its 14 meter seawall from the 13 meter tsunami, they even used some of the unused facilities there to shelter residents of the nearby town- which had been obliterated by the Tsunami that the plant successfully survived. This could actually prove to be a turning point for nuclear power- because this plant survived the quake through good engineering and conforming to recommendations regarding safety improvements, it shows very clearly that a lot of nuclear accidents result not from the inherent danger of nuclear power- but from mismanagement on the part of their operators resulting in cutting corners on safety measures.

I recall in a discussion about Laythe before that the devs were hinting at Laythe experiencing a rather extreme amount of radiation due to the effects of its orbit. Such a thing probably wouldn't be implemented any time soon, but could be a possible realism feature for later on. As far as vessel effects go, having any kind of radiation-induced faults in the hardware would probably become an annoyance when planning a mission for the same reason straight up random failures will not be added. Random faults aside, for the most part only integrated circuit based electronics are likely to experience significant damage in the timeframe of a typical mission. I wouldn't expect the control systems being used by the kerbals to be advanced enough to have that kind of vulnerability, as they appear to aim more for simple and rugged than elegance and sophistication. For all we know the command pods might be using vacuum tube and relay based computing. Kerbals themselves, while realistically they should have radiation phenomena, in practice it would again only relevant on extremely long-duration missions or if you are operating a whole bunch of NERVA engines very close to the manned portions of the vessels. Might make a good feature in a life support mod, but would be almost trivial as a stock feature for a lot of flights.

Folders for sub-assemblies
OdinYggd replied to BFGfreak's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
This has been suggested quite often, especially with the update news hinting at the next version having the subassembly features people have wanted for a while. Just be patient, let's see what all is included in this update's changes. Subassembly loader is actually on the what not to suggest list as well, thread closed. -
