Question on persistent debris
Vanamonde replied to Levelord's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
A thing to consider is that even if objects do not add to lag beyond 2.25kms, the more objects of any kind that exist in your game, the longer quick/autosaves and quickloads take. -
Fly to the orbital height of the target, note how far the target has moved in the time it took you to get that high, and then "revert to launch" and wait until the target is that far west of KSC. Then if you launch again and fly the same profile, you should arrive right on top of it.

Newbie tutorials that are up to date?
Vanamonde replied to helgeras's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
There are no manuals in the game because it's not complete yet. As for tutorials, I've updated most of mine. http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/showthread.php/30238-How-to-Read-the-Navball http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/showthread.php/25008-How-to-reach-orbit-and-a-rocket-that-can-do-it-a-walkthrough-for-newbies http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/showthread.php/25029-A-moon-rocket-for-newbies -
Mitigating Parachute shock.
Vanamonde replied to nhnifong's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
Either open the chutes in batches with action groups, or, as others suggested, add a few drogues. -
Help with Docking: A Trainer Ship for Newbies
Vanamonde replied to Vanamonde's topic in KSP1 Tutorials
I built a new version from scratch for 21.1 and the new SAS system. -
Is it similar to the problem I reported here? http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/showthread.php/46155-Sourceless-rotations-apparently-associated-with-part-count

I went looking for Mun's geographical north pole. And found it.

SPACE STATIONS! Post your pictures here
Vanamonde replied to tsunam1's topic in KSP1 The Spacecraft Exchange
Well, I *was* building this station, but then it started exploding every time I docked anything else to it, so I deleted the whole persistent file to expunge whatever noxious glitches were responsible. -
Deleting game-stock ships.
Vanamonde replied to Vanamonde's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
Thank you for the info. -
My VAB and SPH are getting crowded. Will it hurt anything if I delete the stock ships that come with the game?

You can build the wing while it's sticking up vertically from the spine of the plane, where it's easier to see exactly what you're doing, and you don't get funky connection angles. Then turn on symmetry and move it to the side.
-
1) You can move anything as long as you move it carefully enough at low accelerations. 2) Action groups have stayed set in detached ships for me, but I don't want to promise that it will work for you because there are occasional weirdnesses that still need to be worked out of the docking system. 3) Yes, but you have to burn off the fuel or use a mod to empty the tanks. 4) Not sure what you mean, though as I said, you should be able to burn the engines on a fragile ship if you are careful and stick to low accelerations.

Until you get used to steering in space, try placing an easily visible but essentially massless part, like an antenna, over the "up" side of the ship.

There's a whole sub-section for tutorials, many of which are in written form: http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/forumdisplay.php/54-Tutorials

How useful do you find fueling stations?
Vanamonde replied to Valley's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
I play around with the idea of refueling stations sometimes, but the problem is that the part count of the station + the part count of the ship rapidly becomes unmanageable. When I'm actually going places instead of putzing around in orbit, it just makes more sense to fly multiple fueling tankers to the ships. -
Today I added the Large Ship Berth to Epoch station, launched one of my interplanetary ships, and docked it at the berth. Approach The view from the dock master's control room. But an instant after the ship connected, this happened. You can just barely see (behind the navball) that the ship is being thrown away intact while the station is destroyed. But I had hit quicksave just as this was happening, and upon loading the save, the STATION is fine, but the SHIP has utterly vanished. This is great good luck, of course, because the ship launches as a single piece and is easy enough to replace, whereas I've been building the station for days. But I have no idea what just happened, why the station exploded AFTER the ship had achieved dock, or where the ship went. I do not have any KIAs listed on my personnel roster.

I want a game that settles and develops terrain like Civilization, but your cities are built like SimCity, and when conflict arises you fight battles like the Total War system.

Hi, a question, and thank you for my new obsession
Vanamonde replied to ThreeWholePunch's topic in Welcome Aboard
It's possible to arrange the tanks that way, but you have to be careful that the fuel flow will do what you want it to do. I would suggest building a miniature version first. -
That has happened to me a couple of times, going back 2 or so versions. It only happens when the legs are in the extended position, though, so keep them folded until you're ready to land.

Another stock player here. I just find it more interesting to see what I can do with the basic stuff. On the Oberth effect, so the system of the ship-and-fuel doesn't gain anything by falling into the gravity well, but after the fuel is ejected as exhaust, the ship retains the momentum the fuel gained during the fall?

Today Epoch Station received its new science lab module. This includes the Micro-Gravity Training & Experimental Facility. The view from the training coordinator's window.

Question about docking port strength
Vanamonde replied to Cashen's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
Docking ports can be a little fragile under crushing forces, but sideways, they are quite strong. Example: delivering 8 rovers to Duna/Ike: They will sway a bit under thrust, but as long as you keep the acceleration under a G or so, you'll be fine.
