Good Basic Design For Space Station?
Vanamonde replied to potoes6's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
The wobble is most likely due to SAS mode needing the tune up it will get in the next update, but as for the layout, just have fun with it. One of the most interesting aspects of station construction is that it won't be subject to accelerations and weight, and so can be any shape at all. -
Landers? Cannot really find much.
Vanamonde replied to combat squirrel's topic in KSP1 The Spacecraft Exchange
The different worlds require quite different landing approaches. Small chutes will do on Eve but many chutes are required on Duna, RCS is strong enough for Gilly but Tylo requires as much thrust as taking off from Kerbin, etc. That's why you're not seeing many one-size-fits-all landers. -
Was it really necessary to greet the guy's first post with a scolding? The Dream is Alive, the ships, mission, and video are all really quite excellent, and I appreciated the way you synced the music to the action. I look forward to your future videos. Please make more!

So the weekly is late? So it's come to this at last. I suggest panic and looting. And gentlemen, someone has to say it; it's time to start cannibalizing the older and sicker forum members. Please forward my messages to my survival bunker, where I will be in constant contact with President Obama.

While waiting for 21, I gave myself the project of improving the design of my short-range interplanetary ship (the one that can reach Eve, Duna and Dres). The first version was assembled from 11 launches and had a part count of 192: But the new version has a part count of only 84, and launches as one piece! Kerbal science marches on!

Yes, these days I do check Youtube to get an idea of what a game is like. But although that gets away from some of the hype from the company trying to sell you the game, the majority of player-made videos, well, SUCK! I hate having to sit through 20 minutes of garbage waiting to get to the point, or often just somebody fumbling around because he doesn't know what he's trying to do. It's still useful, but you have to dig through a lot of junk to find anything worthwhile. A plea to Youtubers: EDIT YOUR FLIPPING RECORDINGS!

Here's a little rocket that can reach orbit, and instructions on how to get it there: http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/showthread.php/25008-How-to-reach-orbit-and-a-rocket-that-can-do-it-a-walkthrough-for-newbies

How to best approach Dres?
Vanamonde replied to killhooligan's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
It's not clear to me what kind of problem you're having, but are you using this http://ksp.olex.biz/ or a mod to set your transit trajectory? -
There already is an enemy. The so-called "kraken" is actually stealthed ships shooting at you.

Hold down the shift key while hitting WASDQE. There are many other, well, things to find, but only one other "destination" of that sort. None. Make up your own.

Thanks for the suggestions. Desura looks especially interesting. As for the kinds of games I'm looking for, I used to love the Total War series before they decided "Debugging is for pansies!" and saddled it with Steam, Simcity before EA decided to make it cartoonish and simple instead of a detailed simulation, and the X-Com top-down tactical shoot-outs, but only the early ones with base, research, and personnel management in addition to the firefights. Going way the snot back, I loved Master of Magic (but not the pale imitation of Age of Wonders), and Civilization before they decided to downplay managing your empire and just kept adding more military units and mindless conflict. I *LOVED" Morrowind, but gave up on Elder Scrolls when they decided to discard all the career alternatives, house-building, customized items, and kept all the tedious combat. And, I ike the occasional oddball that doesn't fit into any category, like KSP.

Reversing rover orientation
Vanamonde replied to codadun's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
If the arrows are not clear, arrange the probe cores so that their decals are in the relative orientation given in the pic. Then it will work no matter which way you're facing in the VAB. -
I've had it with the big companies, since they just keep releasing the same game over and over again and calling it a sequel with a number in the title, and also because they sell them to you for $50 even though the things are only about 80% complete and full of bugs. But how do you shop for little games like KSP? I happened across KSP while pottering around with Sandbox Universe, but obviously that was just luck. However, I will NOT go through Steam, for a number of reasons we need not go into here, so please, don't even bother to bring it up.

Also, SRB engines do not "gimbal," or pivot their thrust to assist with steering. I suspect that when you add those side boosters, the ship simply becomes too big for the torque of the pod to hold on course. Either add some fins with control surfaces, or replace the engines with the kinds that have "thrust vectoring" in their part descriptions. Oh, and an ASAS control piece to give instructions to the fins/engines.

Reversing rover orientation
Vanamonde replied to codadun's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
If building rovers in the VAB, this is how you want to orient the rover control part: -
I made a practice ship that launches as one piece with its target ships, so you can practice the last part of the docking without doing a rendezvous first, and starting from close range. Try playing with that for a while before going back to a full rendezvous-to-dock. http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/showthread.php/25425-Help-with-Docking-A-Trainer-Ship-for-Newbies

How about parking some of my mobile floodlights there? http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/showthread.php/25254-Self-deploying-floodlight They both mark the location from a distance, and provide illumination.

How do you flatten the orbit?
Vanamonde replied to CSI_d00d's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
Fly toward east (90 on the navball) all the way to orbit, and you'll be on the ecliptic plane without having to correct later. -
Post pics here by uploading your screenshots to a free service like Imgur.com, and then include the BBCode link they provide in your post.

Kerbal moonwalk automatic control
Vanamonde replied to a topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
If you hold down the W key while alt-tabbing to another application, the Kerbal will just continue walking as if you were holding the key, even if you switch back to KSP. He will go on for as long as you want to let him go, but the only way to get him to stop again is to hold S to get him to stand still while switching to another ship or returning to KSC.
