Good idea, edited the post to account for the teams. And great video, dharak! No worries about the missing docking port, I'm sure we'll find a way around it. We've got plenty of open ports right now anyways, as long as other modules don't block the expansion. Also, would you mind making a post in the other thread with your submission (link is in first post)? I'll update the playlist and all that, I just don't want to be hogging that thread, heh. No need to go into detail about it in your post if you don't want to, since all the relevant info is in the video already, but it's up to you! Aaand next up will be The Destroyer with his module for the science station!
-
Aw, I missed it, I wanted to see what Whackjob posted Having somebody else go next is a good idea, I was actually gonna make a post myself to address that. I spoke to AustralianFries at the beginning of the week and I figured we'd be good to go, but I'm guessing life got in the way 'cause I haven't gotten a reply to the second PM I sent. So if you want to upload your video, dharak, that'd be awesome! I know it'll screw up the order a bit, but it shouldn't be a big problem, especially if it means we can keep the show going without long breaks in between.
-
Hmm, I'm not sure. I've never really paid close enough attention when I'm docking things to see if the name changes, heh. You can always just rename it from the control pod. No worries! Welcome back, hope all is good Find any diamonds? I need to make a pick (sorry, lame Minecraft reference...) Got you on the fuel depot in the last half, but depending on how things go you might be moved up a few spots. It's hard to keep this many people going in a proper order, heh. Still, you've probably got a good week or so before your module will be going up.
-
Wicked job! I like the way it turned out, that's a neat design I've gotten in touch with the next couple of people on the list, so we should see two more modules going up very soon! I'll also be making a post on Reddit soon to show off our hard work, that should bring in some more viewers. I'll drop the link in here as well when that's done. Keep up the great work everyone!
-
Heya guys, just wanted to give everybody a quick update. The fuel depot core has been uploaded by TheCanadianVendingMachine and it's available for watching here. Check it out! I really dig how the docking ports and solar panels are set up. It's a pretty funky design while still remaining fully functional. Good job! Next up will be AustralianFries with the second module for the science station. Looking forward to it!
-
It's all up to you, my friend! There's really no need for commentary if you don't want it. In fact, I think it'll be pretty cool to have a variety in the types of videos. Hehe, yea, I know. I just wasn't sure how many people actually knew its real name, so I figured I'd mention the Great Lighthouse. Nothing back from Holo yet, so he'll be moved down a few spots for now. TheCanadianVendingMachine will be working on the fuel depot's core. I'd also like to give the depot a fancy name, but I can't think of anything good right now Any ideas? I'm going to PM AustralianFries right now to see if he's able to go next on the station. If not, you'll be up after the fuel depot core is launched! There's a few things the station will probably need right away, like modules for power, lights, or habitation. Or you could focus on the sciencey side of things and get a "lab" up there. Looking in my inbox and I see your PM, I guess I never got the notification? I dunno what happened, but I'm terribly sorry for not getting back to you earlier Still, happy news, glad to hear that you're still in! Thanks! It's more or less stolen from the KSP Media Team, but let's not tell them that! You should check out the submissions thread to see what's been uploaded so far
-
Heya guys, I just had a couple of ideas and wanted to see what everyone thought (hence the double post). Firstly, I dunno if we talked about this before, but I think we should all make sure to have a docking port open when we attach our modules. So basically it means every module needs at least two docking ports, one for connecting to the station and another to leave free. This'll ensure we've always got enough ports available. The second thing I wanted to mention was a station name, I know that's still sort of up in the air. Since the station will be kind of a launch point for future projects, as well as possibly a transportation hub, I think it would be fitting to call it KCBP Beacon Station. I also had Pharos Station (inspired by the Great Lighthouse in the Civ games) as another idea. Maybe not the greatest names, but it's certainly something, heh. All others are welcomed, of course!
-
Holy crap Hoojiwana, that's a whole buttload of fuel! Now I feel the need to launch as many orange tanks as possible in one go and enjoy the ensuing chaos. And nice video, Jm419! That's a neat touch with the command center, though I do feel kinda bad for the poor Kerbal that gets stuck facing the sun, hehe. Actually, Jebediah probably volunteered for that seat, so it should be fine.
-
Agreed, buddy, definitely glad we've finally begun! Loving the core, by the way, that's a cool idea with the command center. Next up will be...well, either Holo or TheCanadianVendingMachine, heh. Stay tuned!
-
Hey, no worries bud! I feel ya on those internet issues, I can't wait to get my new connection up and running. Glad to hear that you're still able to participate I sent Holo a PM earlier but he hasn't gotten back to me yet. If he does before you can upload and he's got the fuel depot core ready, we can always put that up first instead. Hopefully he's still available, I don't think he's been online in a few days. For that matter, can everyone that's involved in the project either PM me or post here if they're still interested? If you've been active in the thread over the past week or so then it's cool, I'll assume you're good I know most of us are still in, but I'm just worried we might lose a few. If anything, we can do a bit of shuffling around, so for example the fuel depot core might go to TheCanadianVendingMachine instead.
-
Good idea! Edited my first post to account for the teams.
-
Sorry for the double post, but I just wanted to let everyone know that the project has now officially begun! I've got the introduction video up on my channel and set up a new thread here for the submissions. Whenever you've finished up your module just post in that thread and we'll get everything updated. Also remember to upload your save file somewhere and post a link to that. Jm419's core will be going up shortly, after which it's Holo's turn! Oh man, I'm so excited to finally get this going. Hopefully everyone is still able to participate. I'll get in touch with people if things are too quiet, so we can keep things moving along at a good pace.

Hey there everyone, how's it going! I'm very happy to finally announce the start of the KCBP! It's been in the planning stages for a while, but now that 0.21 has dropped we're able to get started! Essentially the KCBP is a collaboration, in the vein of the IYSS, between many minor YouTubers. Our eventual goal is to populate the Kerbol system with a variety of stations and bases. The first part of the project will focus on building two stations in Kerbin orbit, one as a refueling depot and another as more of a proper science station. The second phase will be on Minmus, setting up an orbital station and a ground base. We have a thread already set up here with a ton of info about the project, this one will be here for the submissions. I, as well as our guest Goosexi (and possibly others), will be keeping an up to date playlist on our channels. I will also update here every time a new module goes up. -------------- Videos: Second Phase: - dharak1 - Nauthy - Cooly568 - CakeNinjaProductions - The Destroyer - Spyritdragon - leax256First Phase: - Nauthy - Jm419Fuel Depot Core - TheCanadianVendingMachine - dharak1 - The Destroyer - Cooly568 - leax256 - TheTriniFlyerXenon Storage - Holo Fuel Depot Docking Arm - esinohio Mass Relay Module - Spyritdragon - Goosexi - NauthyPlaylist here: Reddit thread: http://goo.gl/YAfDzL -------------- Project members: Team 1 (Orbital Station): Nauthy - YT WhiteWeasel - YT CakeNinjaProductions - YT leax256 - YT Goosexi - YT Team 2 (Ground Base): dharak1 - YT Cooly568 - YT The Destroyer - YT Spyritdragon - YT TheCanadianVendingMachine - YT Holo - YT Everyone's looking forward to hearing all your feedback!

That core sounds great as it is, Jm419! I'm sure we'll find a way to get some RCS on there, we'll just need a module dedicated to it. It doesn't have to be perfectly balanced, either, as long as some of the modules have thrusters and there's a bit of fuel for 'em. Same goes for the lights, it shouldn't be too difficult for someone to set up a lighting rig. I guess lights, RCS, and batteries/RTGs are some of those things that can be added to other modules if there's room for a few more parts. Go ahead and upload the core whenever you're ready. I wanted to get a quick video out to introduce the project for when I set up a separate thread, so if you get it uploaded today I can just include that in the first post (which will have a link to all the videos anyways). It'll work out nicely that way, give the viewers something to watch off the start. As soon as I have my intro video done tomorrow I'll let everybody know. I'm cool with leaving video length up to personal choice, but yea, I doubt they'll need to go over 30 minutes. You could even do a shorter video and add some music to the launch/docking process, then maybe talk a bit about your module at the end. As for the name...oh boy, I've been unable to come up with anything worthy, heh. I was thinkin' something cheesy like Project X or Project K (if those names haven't been used before for KSP builds, which I'm sure they have). Or how 'bout this: since we're planning on populating the Kerbol system with other builds, let's have an acronym for our own space program before each station name. One of my lame suggestions is the Kerbal Alliance of Minor YouTubers (KAMY) or maybe something like the Kerbal Community Build Program (KCBP). I dunno, these are pretty bad, haha...so give us your ideas! I'll finalize the decision when I get my short video out.

Aw yeaaaah, 0.21 is here, let's get the show going! 250 km equatorial orbit sounds great, it's what I would've recommended as well. 175 km for the fuel depot should be fine as well. As for the RCS, that's up to you. I'd probably add a few thrusters and a bit of monopropellant (maybe a couple of the small round tanks), just in case. I doubt we'll need it on the core, but you never know. If anything, have some batteries or RTGs on it to help offset the electrical charge that gets used up now. I'd like to keep the module parts count as high as possible, to give everyone plenty of creative freedom. So let's say a max of 30 parts? 270 parts in total that way. Still, it's probably a good idea to aim for 25 parts and then have the option to add a few more pieces if needed. Unfortunately I'm fairly busy for the next couple of days, so I won't be able to put up an intro video right away. I'll get that done for Friday, at which point I'll also start another thread (we can keep this one for discussion) for all the submissions. We can alternate between the teams, so after Jm419 gets the core done we'll pass the torch to the fuel depot, and then repeat from there. Everyone should also upload their save file somewhere after they're done, so we can all have a copy of the latest version. Use something like sendspace.com, though there's plenty of other decent free file sharing sites. Edit: We're in "teams", but we're not really competing against each other, heh. I think it'd be best if we have a fuel depot instead of twin stations, since we'll need something like that for future projects anyways. You can go wild with your module, though. There's enough people on the team that I'm sure the fueling part of the fuel depot will be taken care of pretty quickly. And sadly our guest can't go right away, I've gotta give him a bit of a heads up before he's able to start building. Since I'm just as anxious as everyone else to get this going, I say we start asap
-
We're doing this, dharak, no worries! I guess there isn't much planning left to do, heh, now we've just gotta wait for 0.21 to drop. The debris thing isn't really a big issue and I think it should be left up to each person to dispose of it however they see fit. If anything, I'll go through any debris left at the end and clear it all. As for the build order, a couple of things. I put Spyritdragon on the fuel depot in the middle of the pack, lemme know if you wanna be moved up a bit if you're worried about FPS lag. I didn't want to leave you hanging about whether you could join us. You've been with us since the beginning, I'd feel bad saying no, even with all the people we currently have. So now we've got even teams! The order for team 2 will also stay the same, so Jm419 you've got the honour of building our core I'm so anxious to get this going...soooooon!
-
Fair enough, we could always use the end flight option. I'm just one of those crazy people that thinks it's a little cheaty to do it that way, so I always try to make sure I leave nothing behind or I can deorbit my debris. Still, it's not a huge issue and we can leave it up to individual choice. I've also just updated the first post with all the relevant info. Let me know if there's anything else I should add (like some of the missing YT links )

Ugh, stupid real life. I needs me a smartphone so I can get on here when I've got some rare free time at work, lol. Aaanyways, a couple of things to be addressed. Sadly, I have to say that the group is probably full. I keep going back and forth on this, especially after SkyHook dropped out and I accepted dharak. By that logic, since Pluto dropped out as well, we've still technically got a space open. What does everyone think? I'm totally cool with accepting Spyritdragon (he's been with us since the beginning, too) and that way we can have equal teams. Unfortunately, either way it means I gotta say no to buzz66boy Sorry dude, we can get you on board in the future for another build, though! I've gotta head out in a few minutes, but when I get back home in a few hours I'll edit my first post, to let everybody know we've got a full group (among other things). TheCanadianVendingMachine: Heh, sure! If nobody minds. I wasn't even thinking about team captains or names. Jm419: I'm in talks with our guest about going first, so you may not have to worry about the station core I'll keep the list updated as things change. As for the debris issue. Granted, we probably won't have much debris to worry about, but it'd be great if everyone attempts to leave nothing behind. Keep those skies clear! We could even have a module set up as a debris cleaner. I was thinking for the build order that we could alternate every flight (or every other one) between team 1 and 2. That way we can get the stations built at relatively the same time. Also, we should make it a requirement for everyone to upload the save file after they're done with it. I'm sure everyone would like to get their hands on the latest save to play around in!

So build a station around Kerbin and then move it to the Mun? That's possible, though it might be easier to build from scratch in Mun orbit. I think I'd prefer if we start out with the two stations in Kerbin orbit and then go from there. An orbital tug is a great idea for a module, though, something that would be capable of moving a large mass from Kerbin to the Mun or Minmus. In the future we can maybe begin a build around Kerbin, then move that using the tug and finish it around another planet. Aw, another one down Sorry to hear the news, man. Hopefully in the future we can get you back on board! Yes, for sure! I can't believe I haven't done that yet, it's gone through my mind a few times. I'll get on it Welcome dharak1! Hope you're not friends with that dude anymore Gotcha! No worries, buddy. I was actually gonna make the list now, I'll make sure you're towards the end I guess it all depends on when 0.21 comes out, but I think we'll be good. So here's what I've got for a build order. I randomized the names and kept track of who's able to go later. I don't think I missed anybody, but it's a possibility, heh. We're at 17 members, if I counted right (including one special guest who may or may not be able to join us), so we can have teams of 8 and 9. Let me know if you want to be moved around and if you'd prefer working on the refueling depot (team 1) or the main station (team 2). And yes, I did kinda cheat and put myself last Team 1: TheCanadianVendingMachine ShachonianX Cooly568 Holo Spyritdragon WhiteWeasel dharak1 esinohio hoojiwana Team 2: Jm419 AustralianFries The Destroyer Rocketscience101 ddavis425 leax256 TheTriniFlyer Special Guest! - Goosexi Nauthy

Sorry to see you go, SkyHook You were one of the first to sign up, it sucks that you won't get to contribute. I've always been torn on the mods issue, I agree with you about the functionality and freedom they provide, but I think they'd overly complicate the project, especially with the number of people involved. I'd be more than willing to do a similar build in the future where mods are allowed, though Probably with less people, heh, I didn't expect so many to want in on this! As for teams, I'm all for it! It makes sense considering how big our group is and it'll keep the parts count decent. Having two stations around Kerbin, one as a refuelling depot and one a proper station, seems like it might be the way to go. At ~300 parts per station, we could even try for a limit of 35 parts per module.
-
Welcome Rocketscience101 You made it in as the last guy, congrats! I'd hate to say no to anybody else that wants to join, but we've got a good number of people as it is. We might even have to lower the part count to ~30 so the lag isn't atrocious towards the end of the build. Everyone's welcome to help us out with ideas and discussion, though! I'd like to keep this build all stock parts, just for simplicity's sake. I'm totally cool with mods or MechJeb for helping to get the module into space and docked, as long as the final bit that gets attached is completely vanilla. So if you want to use MechJeb, make sure it's on the tug that'll get used for docking, not on the module itself. This should also be the case if anyone decides to build a tug as their module. I think we should also get rid of all debris left behind by our launches, especially if there's rocket mods involved. Keep Kerbin Klear! wait, no, that's got a terrible acronym..... As for how this'll proceed after the next update, here's what I'm thinkin'. I'd be happy to make a quick intro video before the first person goes (I intend to make a separate thread as well), to let the viewers know what's up. I will also get a randomized list going soon with the build order. Two lists, in fact, one for people that want to go earlier and one for the opposite. After that we'll start sending our modules up. Once one person is done, all they need to do is take the save file and send it to the next in line. There should be no need to edit the save file, especially if we can add ourselves as Kerbals in the Kerbonaut Complex, so it should be a simple process. At least, I hope
-
I agree. As much as I'd like to get started asap, it'd be best to wait 'till we can use the same save file for future projects. It'll be neat to have a game solely devoted to community builds. We should still use Sunday as our cut-off date, but for letting people sign up. I'd love to let more people help us out, but we're getting pretty big and I'm worrying about the overall parts count. TheTriniFlyer: As it stands right now, we'll be working on a station, so you're good there! We'll have to see when the project actually starts since we're waiting on 0.21. It'd be great to get you involved, but if you're cool with going towards the end then it shouldn't be a problem
-
Welcome TheTriniFlyer! Don't worry about not having many videos or subs, we're here to show off what we can do And thanks for keeping the thread alive when I'm not around, guys! Work has been hell lately, I haven't been able to get online as much as I'd like, but that'll be done with soon. I'm cool with this, it'll be a nice progression. Start off easy with a Kerbin station and work our way up to the harder builds. I can't wait for the project to get started! Just a few more days until the cut-off date. When I get a chance I'll randomize everyone's names and put 'em in a list, so we can figure out the order. Let me know if you want to be somewhere specific, I know some people have already stated their preferences. Also, does anyone want to be first? The core will be a very important part, so it's cool if you don't want the responsibility Though somebody will end up first anyways, I just want to make sure everyone's happy.
-
Of course, buddy! It's probably not a bad idea, though I'm guessing most modules will end up with at least 2 docking ports anyways, one to attach to the station and one on the other end. And as long as people get creative with their builds, I'm sure we can pretend the module has a use, even if it's just there to look shiny. Agreed. Large ports for the station and standard size for everything else makes sense. Screw those junior ports As for the lag issue, I can definitely go later in the order, my PC's pretty beefy and will be able to handle it. That's the first suggestion for a name, I like it! I didn't even think about what we should call ourselves, heh.
-
I'm cool with that, though we should set a cut-off date just in case 0.21 is delayed for a while. We'll still need a bit of time to finalize all the decisions as to what we're building and whatnot, so let's say Sunday next week (July 7th)? I know we're all pretty anxious to start workin' on this asap, I don't wanna push it back too much.
