[1.3.0] Kerbal Engineer Redux 1.1.3.0 (2017-05-28)
razark replied to cybutek's topic in KSP1 Mod Releases
Everything in one place: I have a list of all the mods I use, with a link to the forum thread. (I also don't obsess over having to have the most recent version, unless it fixes a particular problem or adds a particular feature.) -
You "vee-tall" people know it's Vertical Take Off and Landing, not Vertical Takeoff And Landing, right?

Memorial for John Glenn
razark replied to Jestersage's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
I'd find that appropriate. Perhaps something at Baikerbanur? I also wouldn't have a problem with a memorial to all who have lost their lives in pursuit of space flight. I'd say they should leave off adding any more individual memorials until somebody reaches Mars. -
Memorial for John Glenn
razark replied to Jestersage's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
I think that one is acceptable since this is a game about space flight/exploration, and no matter where humans might go in the future, Armstrong took that first step onto another world. However, a separate memorial for every astronaut or cosmonaut is a bit much. I kind of like the idea of a single memorial or small references in the part descriptions, though. -
True, but Gagarin was a cosmonaut, not an astronaut.

[1.3.0] Kerbal Engineer Redux 1.1.3.0 (2017-05-28)
razark replied to cybutek's topic in KSP1 Mod Releases
I apologize for assuming you knew what you were asking. I haven't seen anyone specifically say this is or isn't working in 1.2.2, but there's a user up this page that reports it seems to be working. -

1.2.1 falls under 1.2.x, does it not? -

Saw the breaking news just as I was about to leave the office. I have no words to properly capture my feelings as I drove by our Mercury capsule on the way home. Thank you, sir.

Did they finally change that? It's been a standard change on my settings for so long, I'd forgotten it wasn't stock.

KSP died with version 0.14, when they turned it into a money grab by charging for it. KSP died with version 0.15, when they decided to focus on planes, instead of space. KSP died with version 0.16, when they added EVA. KSP died with version 0.17, when they added other planets. KSP died with version 0.18, when they killed off any mods for docking. KSP died with version 0.19, when they... umm... Well, I can't think of anything, but I'm sure whatever they did ruined the game. And so on, and on, and on and on. KSP has been consantly getting one day closer to its death every day.

Curiosity prompts me to ask: As a real world pilot, do you use FAR in KSP?

[old thread] Trajectories : atmospheric predictions

Have you tried on the map screen in flight? -
I watched someone's video on rendezvous and docking, followed the instructions, and nailed it on my first attempt. Turns out I didn't understand what any of it meant and ended up getting very lucky that first time. After that, it took me many attempts to understand what any why things were happening before I managed to get another rendezvous. Now, it's pretty routine. The two best tools I've found for rendezvous and docking: Docking Port Alignment Indicator and Kerbal Alarm Clock. Once you're close, DPAI lets you dock without needing to even see the two ships. All the information you need on one simple screen. To get close, KAC is awesome. Open the Add an Alarm screen, switch to the Closest Approach tab, and you've got the closest distance and when it happens. RCS on fine control, and you can get rendezvous to less than ten meters. Set an alarm, SAS to target retrograde, and it's done.

I use a stick and throttle for planes, but I've just never managed to get comfortable flying a rocket that way.

What is your biggest science pet peeve in movies?
razark replied to todofwar's topic in Science & Spaceflight
I've read the book and seen the movie. The title and character names are based on the Heinlein novel. Nothing else is. -

I'm still waiting for them to make a Starship Troopers movie based on the novel by Heinlein. -
What moves you? (other than high velocity gas)
razark replied to Leafbaron's topic in KSP1 Discussion
No offense, but I find that to be a very meaningless description, since what one person finds fitting is not the same thing another might find fitting. It's akin to saying "I like music that I like." (However, I agree that any person should listen to what they find fitting at the time.) -
Forming an Actual RP Group [RP Recruitment, No RP Here]

They dropped the "advanced" in 2000 when the 3rd Edition was released. -
Naming scheme for your ships! (0.24 edition)
razark replied to mangekyou-sama's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Each of mine generally has three names: Class, Vessel, and Mission. Class: Usually rather descriptive of the vehicle. Version numbers and letters are added as new designs are added or designs change. Science Orbiter gathers science from orbit; Taxi 1 is the first design to take tourists; Mun Probe 1 is a Mun/Minmus science orbiter; Station Core 1, Station Hab 1, and Station Lab 1 are station modules. Later classes that are used for surface to orbit crew or cargo transport are currently named after Viking ship types based on capacity. The Karve class is a small crew transport with a small cargo capacity, the Knarr is a larger crew/cargo transport and so on. Vessel: Early naming is based on purpose. Science One and Science Two are small vehicles for sub-orbital science gathering. Orbiter One and so on were for orbital science missions. A series of Taxi 1 <letter> carried tourists. Mun Explorer I and Minmus Explorer II were Mun Probe 1(A) class vessels. Romulus and Remus were a pair of Karve class vessels used for docking tests. Stations are named after location and phonetic alphabet. L(ow) K(erbin) O(rbital) R(esearch) S(tation) Alpha followed by LKORS Bravo, LMORS Charlie, LMiORS Delta and so on. Stations are built up of things like Alpha Hab Module docked to Alpha Core Module. Later vessels that are used for surface to orbit crew or cargo transport are named after whatever strikes me. Right now they're running off a list of US Escort Carriers of WWII. Mission: Named after a brief mission description. K(erbin) S(ub) O(rbital) 1 followed by KSO-2, L(ow) K(erbin) O(rbit) 1 and LKO-2, Mun Examination 1, Minmus Landing 2, LKORS Alpha Crew 1 Launch, LKORS Bravo Construction 3, etc. -
A reminder to take our face out of our screens occasionally.

My ex-wife and I used to do that all the time. Go to the bookstore, pick up some books, and then go eat and read. Tell that to the kid I was smacking on the head with Fellowship of the Ring earlier this evening. -
[1.12.x] Kerbal Alarm Clock v3.13.0.0 (April 10)
razark replied to TriggerAu's topic in KSP1 Mod Releases
That takes effort. With KAC, it's simply place node, hit timewarp. There's nothing else involved, no extra clicking, and it becomes expected behavior. -
[1.12.x] Kerbal Alarm Clock v3.13.0.0 (April 10)
razark replied to TriggerAu's topic in KSP1 Mod Releases
I'm caught by surprise every time KSP updates. Start playing, set a maneuver node, timewarp, wonder why it didn't stop before the node, then I remember that it's not stock functionality. KAC does a lot more than I need it to do. However, I'm sure there are things other people use that I don't, and things I use that other don't. I'm quite happy to have it. -

Oddly, I don't recall stating that. My meaning with that statement was that I don't have a need to be constantly in contact with everyone at all times. If I need to communicate with someone, I can call or text. I'm aware of what a smartphone can be used for. I said I don't have one. That doesn't mean I am unaware of what they are or what they are capable of. I'd be hard put to name someone I know that doesn't have one. I also have tools for every one of those things you mentioned, except for an e-reader. I've tried that, and I find that I much prefer reading paper to any of the devices I've tried. Oddly, I do remember saying that.
