  1. Fortunately, the game will autosave. Chances are, even if you've never used quicksave, you have a save file with your station intact as long as you haven't played much after the unfortunate incident. I've done that at least 5 times.
  2. Once your craft exits Kerbin's SOI, you will be in a Kerbol (solar) orbit. Your Kerbol orbit will be a little different than Kerbin's because you will be going at a different speed. Remember, Kerbin is orbiting Kerbol rather quickly. So, instead of just shooting off into space, you will be orbiting the sun.
  3. An excellent challenge! I now know what part of my weekend will be spend doing!
  4. Hey Moon Goddess I'm kind of in the exact same place as you, and I;ve found it's because I prefer the design part of the game as opposed to the missions. My room mate is the opposite, not really caring about the rocket as long as it will get his colony to Jool etc. I've found I've added PLENTY of hours of play by getting into and messing around with space planes. It's a whole different kettle of fish, with all new design problems.
  5. I use quicksave all the time. It's an extremely useful tool for testing things out. Say you want to test something at the KSC, and it involves two or three craft. Now, let's say there is some complicated maneuver/function that often breaks something. I'll quicksave with the everything in place, and proceed to load up the save to save time
  6. The getting wedged part is pretty common, but the landing? WOW! I would have been rolling on the floor!
  7. Holy crap.. I love where this is going! Vostok, those ships (would those be Barques?) are contenders for the most beautiful thing I've seen in KSP! Seriously. Here's a screen shot from the vid in case anybody scrolled past it. Again, this is Vostok's, not mine: I tried Atanar's exploit, but wasn't able to get a craft that performed better than the control. I realized I needed a control because it seemed to be working, and then I realized that there is a slight slope in the runway..... Just having wheels on something light will get you at least 2 m/s if you are patient. How fast were you able to get 'er going, Antar?
  8. Well, if people didn't ask noob questions, we probably wouldn't have all those nice video tutorials. Really though, I have no idea who this Nerd Cubed guy is, so I don't have any basis by which to asses his fanbase. What I do know is that more players means more money for Squad, which means a heightened likelihood of KSP making it all the way to a retail release. So, I guess what I'm saying is "welcome".
  9. Well, if it's not allowed, we can pretty much scrap the leaderboard! In all seriousness, though, it's not that easy. Smaller SRB lasts 30 seconds total, and it's thrust isn't that spectacular for about 25 of those seconds. You need to get creative
  10. Hey folks Looks like our dear friend and moderator Sal_Vager got the thread rating system back up! It seems it was yet another victim of the great forum crash. It's located towards the upper right corner of the thread, as seen here: Now, great challenges can get the recognition they deserve! Thanks, Sal!
  11. Looks like Sal_Vager got the thread rating system back up and running! This thread gets a 5 in my book! Remember to rate the good challenges!
  12. I messed around with "sharkplane" type designs too. This one I was hoping for some sort of water-skimming effect, but had there been any physics interaction, the thing would have just 'sploded.
  13. Not much of a challenge, then. More of a "do whatever you want" free-for-all. Nothing wrong with that, but not the best for a competition.
  14. You so sure about that? How are you powering it? If I recall from the Maching Bird challenge, the top speed of a ram jet is currently 2,400m/s. Also, 36.231 m/s... Thats more than 10 times Kerbin's escape velocity. I'm thinking you may have misread something. Then again, a picture is worth a thousand speculations.
  15. Shameless bumping because I want to see the crazy stuff you guys got.
  16. At first I was going to write something sarcastic about Sandra Bullock, but that trailer did look pretty bad-ass...
  17. Not to sound like a jerk, but don't you already have a this exact same thread [thread=28815]here[/thread]?
  18. Regarding part cost, the prices listed in the game currently are pretty arbitrary. For instance, a Hitchhiker pod costs almost as much as 5 Mainsails (which cost the same per engine as a Mark 55 radial engine). Heck, for the price of 1 ion engine, you can make a 2 COMPLETE and functional small manned rockets. I think those prices are there just so there is a number figure in the box...
  19. Got an entry for the stock manned category. No mods were used, only mod I have installed is SubAssembly. Looks like I topped out at 2,209m/s. I'd never had anything close to this degree of success with a plane before! Dang things are tricky! If I missed or forgot something, lemme know!
  20. This thread is going to end well.
  21. Be my guest! Really, any wacky product of the design process is welcome. Heck, if it's got a good story behind it, even better! And thanks for the compliment!
