The 5th Generation Fighter challenge [FAR]
tetryds replied to Halsfury's topic in KSP1 Challenges & Mission ideas
@Gamer025: Sorry but there is nothing wrong with any of my submissions, on the ones where the thrust was not cutoff the throttle value was adjusted to compensate. I recalculated all of my scores before submitting to make sure they were right, if you think there is any inconsistency on them please show me exactly where. There was indeed an error with Hodo's entry, which was already fixed, I have no idea where are the problems you are mentioning. The challenge creator is the one who decides what is valid or not and that does not have anything to do with the moderation of the forums. So please, no trolling. -

It's feasible, but doesn't seem practical. Btw, that was on devFAR, which accounts for ducted area ruling. -

I am done summing up my points. SE-37 Score: 44,26 + 51,2 + 17 + 5 + 1 Total: 118,46 points. Now I guess it's time for a rev1 version, this craft was put together in 15 minutes I am sure this design can do better. -

No need, thanks, I am summing up the points for my SE-37 right now. Just need to check my top speed at supercruise and estimated range. -

You guys must stop fighting already. Gamer025, this challenge is not yours, Halsfury decides if Hodo entries are valid or not. It's okay to point out potential problems or flaws with the points, but this is getting way too personal. And Hodo, no personal offences. Yes I am talking as a moderator. This challenge is already complex enough for people to start fighting about it, really. -
Because the sudden Cl drop is what indicates when that stall is happening, and it's about 27 degrees for his craft You may have confused the stall behavior with the L/D graph. The thin line is the hysteresis behavior, after stalling you need to decrease your AoA to an angle lower than the one where it happens for it to stop happening. So, the static AoA sweep shows what happens as you increase the AoA all the way to the max angle then back, that is why if you don't stall within the range you sweep at there is no thin line. From the yellow line you can grasp how stall is happening, if at the point where the Cl drops your yellow line goes up the stall happens first somewhere in front of the COM, if it drops even more, it may be behind the COM. You can also use that to balance your stalling in a way you can make controlled stalls that don't make your craft bounce around when it happens. If you want to make it so you can have the highest AoA without stalling when piloting with a keyboard, just set the deflection in a way that with pitch settings on 1 your Cm crosses zero a bit before the sudden Cl drop. Bear in mind that engine gimbal also adds to the pitch forces, so if your Cm at max pitch is exactly at the peak Cl the engines can make you cross that line and make you stall. There is also moment of inertia, so if you make a sudden turn and pitch too fast you can stall because of that. And also that you can end up having so much lift that pitching as much would instantly destroy your aircraft. And also that... oh well, there are so many things. Anyway, I think you got it.

This is false, at that speed his craft will stall at around 27 degrees of AoA, from the graph you can also see that the chines stall first, generating extra drag on the front which decreases stability a bit. @bartekkru99: That front stalling is a bad behavior, you don't want to stall non-active control surfaces at high AoA and low speeds at the front, you may want to re-position those chines and maybe add deflecting leading edges to them. What is being experienced with instability may also be related to uneven flexing, FAR does not touch joints and the stock joints are a bit borked. With that many wing parts, I recommend adding struts to the critical points as well as small wing parts further away from the fuselage, which you did right, just try to hide them as they are accounted for aerodynamics. You can do that by simply moving them around with the gizmos, they continue to be connected to the part you clicked, just show up on a different place. So, fuselage flexing is usually not a very big deal when it's a single core, but yours is not, you should be careful. Even though they won't really flex much, the wings connected to them get an amplified effect from that, you will want to sew the two engine fuselages together, a few struts connecting them will be enough. For wave drag area, your only issues are the rear and intakes, that could be easily fixed with anti-shock bodies and re-positioning of the horizontal stabilizers, move them forward so they end exactly when the engine ends.

The 5th Generation Fighter challenge [FAR]

Great, that is good enough. Can we have the same craft on both with and without weapons leaderboards? -

Then the design itself has to contain these hardpoints? That would kind of invalidate all of the submissions so far. Also, I have a very good reason to why "amount of weapons" is a bad choice for scoring... 100 points... BAM, 1056 points. Of course those are just examples, but I just wanted to show that adding more guns for more points can get silly very fast. What about having different kinds of preset payloads, and earn points by being capable of carrying them? "Carrying" would mean be able to supercruise with the given weapons and have them on a deployable state*. *ammo boxes can be clipped internally as that does not really matter. Some interesting payloads would be: Interceptor: 4x Sidewinder, 2x AMRAAM, 1x hidden vulcan, 1x 20mm ammo box. Air Support: 2x Maverick, 4x hellfire missile, 1x GAU-8, 2x 30mm ammo box. Attacker: 2x Maverick, 2x S-8KOM rocket pod, 1x AGM-86B cruise missile, 1x hidden vulcan, 1x 20mm ammo box. Each of them with the value of 5 points. -

The 5th Generation Fighter challenge [FAR]
tetryds replied to Halsfury's topic in KSP1 Challenges & Mission ideas
About the weapons, just make it as an extra factor for poins, it would be too complicated to balance it in a way you can try one or the other. I don't think that any of us would mind installing BDArmory, I would actually be surprised if any of us don't have it already. For VTOLs, what about a 1.05x points multiplier? Nice tailslide. -

Sorry I won't share mine right now because it's a prototype, not even supermaneuverable yet. I was trying out some supersonic stunts and want to get them right too. But the version for this challenge remais unchanged. I still need to test the endurance of my airplane to sum up all of the points. -

Welcome back Halsfury. Did you break my speed record yet? I was turning my airplane into an SSTO but got bored along the way. Then I... This is very effective, I recommend. Just aim some missile pods down inside of cargo bays. -

tetryds replied to ricardoguedes21's topic in Portuguese (Português)

tetryds replied to EuSouONumero345's topic in Portuguese (Português)

Yes, select rotation gizmo, click on the part you want, press F, turn on angle snap. Then, click on any direction of the gizmo, it will snap to the nearby global snap angle. Just move it around a bit and it will align perfectly with the SPH. Now you can align anything, anywhere. Good for landing gears
