KSP2 Release Notes

All recent versions of Unity can build to a 64-bit system, the issues with 64 bit are based in KSP. Until KSP works correctly with 64 bits, it'll be 32 bit (unless you're on 64-bit Linux). I've been using Unity for around 4 years now so if you have more questions I can probably answer them.

Injustice/stupidity in the world of gaming and IRL. Stuff like EA completely failing on removing bugs for BF4's full release or that second grader getting suspended for eating his pop tart in the shape of a gun are not only stupid, but stupidly stupid (yeah, I went there).

KSP still not optimized for RAM
OrbitusII replied to gilflo's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
Have you tried to develop a game engine? It's quite a long, tedious task, especially for something as sophisticated as Unity. Do you know of any game engine besides Unity that can natively export to Mac, Windows, Linux, iOS, Android, Windows Phone and Web Players, costs a mere $1500 for two professional licenses (they also have a free version with minimal restrictions) and can use the C#, Javascript, or Boo languages (Unity's coding is actually based off of these and not directly linked, but you get my point) for coding? I sure as heck don't. Unity has made things like Slender, Surgeon Simulator, Bad Piggies, Battlestar Galactica Online, and a whole slew of other games. The only restrictions right now are an older version of PhysX (2.8 or thereabouts) and KSP's issues with 64-bit on systems besides Linux (from my experience, 64-bit builds work fine on almost any 64-bit system). Developing a custom game engine would not only take a long time, much longer than finishing and optimizing KSP right now, but would more likely than not prevent thousands of people who are already heavily invested in the game from playing it until the new engine can export to all systems or a port is complete. Would it be neat? Yeah! I think it'd be awesome if there was a "Squad Game Engine!" Would it be practical and worthwhile? Nope, unless you want to wait 10 years for KSP to start development... again. I don't want to shoot down the idea of Squad developing a proprietary game engine, but it won't be practical for a while. I forget who said this (I think it was Damion Rayne, the old CM), but "if you want to make a game engine, make a game engine. If you want to make a game, make a game." -
Back in the days of 0.18.x.... I spent a good hour+ struggling to get this to work (I could rendezvous... sort of). When I got it, the view was pretty darn nice. Oh, how far I have come... docking isn't even a challenge any more!

Show off your kerbal's faces to their achievements!
OrbitusII replied to ThatKerbal's topic in KSP1 Discussion
From my livestream on Sunday: It was supposed to be a munar transport tug, but the viewers wanted me to land it. "YOLO" they said... "I think I can land this" I said... Jeb and Descal clearly don't care that they can't get home. "WE'RE ON THE FLIPPIN' MUN!" "I KNOW!!! :D" -
Should I get ksp on steam if I already have it from the site?
OrbitusII replied to syfyguy64's topic in KSP1 Discussion
I use the KSP site instead of Steam because I don't have a Steam and I don't care about download times (I usually start it shortly after it goes live). Use Steam, don't use Steam, it's all up to you; the only major differences are server speed and auto-updates, everything else about KSP are identical. -
KSP figurines come from Shapeways. Linky

My biggest mobile vessel to date, DTV Odysseus: I really need to test that shuttle's landing capabilities since I'm scared to send Kerbals home in it. Once I switch out crew and refuel, the Odysseus will be headed to Duna! I sure am happy for my new graphics card, I can now run midrange settings at 20+ FPS!

Not Enough Electricity.
OrbitusII replied to insylem's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
It's clearly a bug, I've had it on most of my ships in 0.23 but there hasn't been any issue with torque. Ignoring it is the best way to deal with it unless you actually ARE out of electricity. -
Does anyone also hate the MK1-2 pod (3-men pod) like me
OrbitusII replied to royying's topic in KSP1 Discussion
The Mk1-2 isn't as good as it could be, but it's a good pod for the size and crew capacity. Since it's the only 3-kerb capsule in the stock game, it's the capsule I use for most of my transportation systems. I have this mostly-stock beaut for 2-kerb missions, but the 1-2 is still the best option for 3 kerbals. This capsule is also designed for low Earth orbit, not Kerbin. -
[Part] Unnamed 4 Kerbal Capsule, Work in Progress
OrbitusII replied to S3416130's topic in KSP1 Mod Development
I like the shroud, but I think it could be a single part and still function correctly. Just have it shoot off of the top with the LES (maybe even merge the shroud and LES?) instead of ejecting to the sides and you've got a winner! I can't wait to see the IVA you come up with as well. -
Probably Eeloo since it's so far away... Duna's not bad, Eve is just hot and has tons of atmosphere, Jool is a big, green, lovable ball of gas, but Eeloo... It's monochromatic, distant, and there's no sense of security there. For some reason the other planets seem so much more secure with at least one other body outside of their orbits, which Eeloo doesn't have... You screw up and you can get lost in interstellar space forever... On that note, Moho is pretty intimidating as well- mess up and you're headed towards the sun- although you at least have the sun's warmth, which Eeloo doesn't...

"All-Around Optimizations, upgrading Unity" in .23, what does it mean?
OrbitusII replied to cy-one's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Switched over to the family MacBook Pro, despite it's only remotely better graphics, and I'm definitely seeing some improvements over past versions. The terrain still causes a pretty large FPS drop but once I get past Kerbin's terrain unloading distance everything is smooth and beautiful. I still need that new GPU, though… -
I say let them burn! Unless the vehicle is designed to be "reusable," I leave them deployed.

"All-Around Optimizations, upgrading Unity" in .23, what does it mean?
OrbitusII replied to cy-one's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Haven't noticed much of a performance increase personally (it's there... but it's not significant). HOWEVER, that is due to my ancient, 256MB Asus GeForce 8400GS, not any game issues. I'm hoping to get a new EVGA GT640 (or at least some money towards it) for Christmas, so I should get to experience the optimizations before 0.24. -
I voted for resources simply because it's what I expect to come first in the development process. What HarvesteR said during the KerbalKon End Ceremonies is that multiplayer would come after the completion of career mode, so considering the fact that career mode will involve things such as science, money, contracts, and the like, it makes sense that resources would be a part of that.

This makes me happy. And then it just sits there when on my space station...

What will be the first thing you will do in 0.23?
OrbitusII replied to astropapi1's topic in KSP1 Discussion
I'll probably try and build an SSTO with RAPIERS and work on a Munar space station. -
Jeb had a fun time doing the test flights for this shuttle somewhat reminiscent of the X-20 or Dream Chaser. It was a pain to get into orbit since the wings provided extra pitch to destabilize it during launch, but adding tons of Canards did the trick. Jeb wasn't there for the actual flight to orbit, that was Ludny and Merwig. The space station that Ludny and Merwig docked to during the first flight of my new shuttle program. I've tested its gliding capabilities already, but the real test is going to start once I deorbit it and try to bring it back to KSC.

Brilliant! You get a rep point from me and I'll have the song stuck in my head for the rest of the day!

I haven't seen the whole series but what I have seen I really enjoyed, so this is exciting to see. Totally gonna play the heck out of it when it comes out! "No one wants to disappoint Joss." Darn right! Make it good, Quantum Mechanix!
-
It looks like he might have gotten his suit caught on it (hence the pulling/smashing motion); notice the significantly louder clang when he jumps off, like metal snapping back into place after being pulled outwards (and no, it was not him kicking off- his feet were already firmly planted on the side of the capsule).

I have noticed the Daily Kerbal coming out late during the past week but I think that's caused by them being too busy to get it out exactly on time. I am anticipating 0.23 sometime this month, however, since they got it into experimentals so quickly!
