  1. Back in 0.19, I spent a couple of weeks building a huge ship in orbit. It had 10 orange tanks worth of fuel. Managed to find an old screenshot: I finally finished it and decided it was time for the maiden voyage, and for reasons I cannot comprehend, the mainsail just falls off as soon as I throttle up. I keep it going for a while, and the fuel is not flowing properly. Oh well, with all those docking ports it makes a good fuel depot!
  2. Build a base on Eve. Plant a flag at the bottom of a mohole. Design a spaceplane that can get to Laythe, without refuelling. Set up a Refueling depot around the Mun
  3. My longest running mission was 50 years in 0.19. Mainly because I like to launch missions and finish them sequentially. For example, getting to Jool I launch, escape Kerbin, time accelerate till I get an appropriate transfer window, then transfer. After getting it to Laythe, I send the next part, so it gets repeated! In 0.20 I'm trying to avoid that a bit, by sending multiple ships in the same window. Also makes it more interesting managing them all arriving at similar times.
  4. I had about 80 in 0.19. I had 6 stations orbiting Kerbin. 2 Orbiting the Mun, 1 around Minmus, Eve, Duna, Moho, Dres, Laythe. 3 Bases on the Mun (1 base had multiple ships), 2 on Minmus, 1 on Duna, Eve, Laythe. Also had Rovers everywhere and lots of satellites providing "communications" for the surface. And Landers in other places, like Vall. Every time I tried to reduce it, I couldn't find anything that I wanted to delete. Started a new save in 0.20, and am up to about 14 already, including 1 Mun Base (built from about 10 launches), with 2 more ships there, plus a buggy. Station around Duna, Mun, Kerbin and a few landers/ships in transits. Forgot about flags. I've already got 3 planted on Mun, 1 on Minmus and 1 on Ike. The next one will either be Gilly or Duna. My intention is to get a flag on every planet/moon, plus 1 at every Easter egg (I guess magic boulder is not possible, but I am going to try it).
  5. I generally try to drop the final launch stage before the periapsis goes past 20km, but there are exceptions. I use probes/seperatrons/RCS to get junk out of orbit. The coolest method is seperatrons, slightly angled. Watching that thing fly away was fun.
  6. No one has found the teapot orbiting Kerbol between Kerbin and Duna yet.
  7. I chose to restart my save due to one new feature - Clamp-o-tron Sr. Great for space stations. Otherwise, I would have just copied my saves over. Yes the terrain was messed up to start with, but they fixed that. I was also impacted by that since I had already put a base on the Mun before 0.20.1 - I fixed it by editing the save file to give them a higher altitude.
  8. My first was Duna. However, when 0.20 came out, I decided to start again. This time I went to Ike first, just to plant a flag. Actually, I went to Ike after going to Minmus.
  9. So you agree that there would be a theoretical limit to the number of flights? This was entirely my point. I'm not saying it will be an issue. I don't know what the actual limit would end up being, and it's likely computer dependent. My concern is that if there is no way to end some flights you could potentially hit this limit. Will it be a problem in reality? I don't know. I'm just hoping this is being considered in what they are implementing.
  10. Realistic yes, but this is a game. The more flights you have, the harder your computer works. There ought to be some way of getting rid of flights/objects always, regardless of their controllable state. We don't know what is happening with the update, but if it becomes impossible to clear uncontrollable flights (ie ships without fuel on Kerbol escape), this is in my opinion a problem.
  11. I'm sorry JSD, I must not have expressed myself correctly. Nothing about KSP disappoints me. I'm completely addicted to it and love it to death. I'm just saying none of the features coming in the next update excite me. I'm sure they'll be great, and I'll find them useful. And I know there are people who also will love them. I also understand how development works - I'm a professional system architect. Software development is like this. Sometimes things progress fast from an end user perspective. Sometimes they progress slowly because behind the scenes work is going on. This update appears to be one of the later. Normally a thing like this leads to great things down the track. The one thing that does excite me is the fact that it is 0.21. That means 0.22 is next and so on. It's one step closer to resources. I have no idea when that will be, and I'll be happy when it comes. Until then I'll happily play the game as it is.
  12. I don't think anyone is complaining about Squad. They're simply expressing disappointment about features they were hoping for not being in the next update. Complaining about people doing this is in my opinion disrespectful - you are essentially saying that people are not entitled to have their own opinion. I am disappointed with what is coming, but I understand why this is happening also. I don't hate Squad for not doing what I would like - I love them and their work, and I am sure the things they add in 0.21 will be great for what they are. They are just not features I was hoping for.
  13. I have to say, nothing announced really excites me and I am a little disappointed. I was really looking forward to resources and it got pushed back. And now again it's pushed back. Now I'm not criticizing Squad - they're doing a great job - I'm just expressing how I feel. I also worry a little what the changes to the end flight will do - I can see it potentially impacting people in ways that players don't fully appreciate yet. Out of all the features announced, the most useful would be the crew management. I recently made a ship with 2 hitchhiker modules as a colony ship, and it was a pain to load all the crew aboard. The Astronaut complex might be good, but there is not enough information to know anything for now. With the addition of new parts I expect additional load times. I hope that in the background they continue working on optimizing some of this, although I am always happy to see new parts.
  14. I voted for the Ion engine. It's too slow for anything. Even accelerating just the engine itself would be too slow. However, that big white radial engine is a close second. Too big and inefficient, the small orange ones are a much better choice.
  15. I've pretty much finished my base. I might add more Cupola modules to make the ends prettier, but it's generating enough lag as it is. I'm a little disappointed with the number of legs it has on it, and this is something I will be working to address for the next version- probably on Duna which will require a new strategy for landing. The weird rocket in the background was meant as a ferry to the space station. I wanted to land it on the landing pad, but it was too hard and too big. I'll be sending a new, smaller, 1 man rocket at some point just to complete the look.
  16. The in game music. And if it's not playing, I often start humming the opening music!
  17. Definitely. At the moment, there is absolutely no reason for me to send Kerbals home, so they keep accumulating in bases and stations throughout the solar system. Anything that would give a good reason to go home would be a great addition.
  18. These days almost every single launch I do has 2 docking ports - Clamp-o-tron and Clamp-o-tron Sr. This way EVERYTHING is capable of docking with everything else. My Mun base was built with 10 modules, and has a total of 13 Sr ports and 30 Regular ports and sadly it lags now. I'm the type of person who doesn't really like using mods, which was kind of limiting back in the 0.13. Ironically in 0.19 I built a small lander which used structural plates for landing rather than landing legs, just because they were more compact and folding the landing legs up would get in the way of the docking port. It had just enough delta v to land a single Kerbal on the Mun and get back to orbit to dock with an orbiting vessel.
  19. I was hear reading all this stuff thinking I was not old enough, then I realized I started playing before Minmus existed. I'll be honest, and say it didn't hold my attention much until 0.18, when docking ports were introduced. Then I kind of got addicted.
  20. I think you might mean 12700 km (12.7 Mm ?) If it were only 12.7km, the airline industry would be out of business.
  21. Well done! It's surprising how little fuel you actually need to get to Laythe when you use (abuse?) aerobreaking.
  22. The longest burn I ever had was 1hr. I've since learnt to add more nukes. Yes, you lose delta-v, but think about it - The nuke is only 2.25t compared to the fuel you might be carrying, which for me is from 80t-150t (depending on the ship). Adding 1 nuke is not going to hurt delta-v much. In my case adding 3 made sense, getting the burn time down to like 20 minutes. The other thing to be careful of is to make sure your ships are designed so they can handle physics acceleration. A number of my ships that go to Jool can go at 4 times acceleration while burning, the rest 3 times. I recently built a new space station hub, which only handles 2x and wobbles too much at 3x. I just recently upgraded it to have 2 nukes so I could put it around Duna. When I put one around Laythe, it will need more fuel and more nukes, or more stability for the physics warp.
  23. Now I might be reading this wrong, but why are you getting to 300km? I understand that it might not fly well in atmosphere, but surely you could start a gravity turn by about 60km, if not 69km. For a straight vertical launch, I'd cut engines once my apoapsis was 100km, then try burning horizontal, as soon as possible, ie before leaving atmosphere.
  24. I was thinking the exact same thing! I disagree. I love finding out what has changed, and then exploiting it for fun and profit.
  25. I've sworn to never buy a game that requires steam ever again. Last time I did that, I was unable to play the game because I was in the wrong country. So any DRM that punishes me for trying to play something I bought annoys me now. But that's just me.
