For future reference: Go to edit your first post, then Go Advanced and change the tag in the menu. -
My kerbals always die
Specialist290 replied to Beaker's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
Can you give us a few more details on what exactly the ship is doing when this happens? Are you playing on a stock install, or are you using a few mods as well? -
For the record, to quote the What Not To Suggest introductory segment: In particular, multiplayer functionality was on that list initially because it was an extremely common suggestion at the time, and discussions tended to be near-constant rehashes of the same topics, issues, and ideas ad infinitum. As it is now a confirmed feature, it will remain on the list, as suggesting it be added would be redundant. EDIT: That being said, the footnote indicating that it's not planned for inclusion in the full release of the game has been removed.

Cant make accurate Geostationary orbit.

Somehow this one got through the filter twice. Locking this one, since it's the newer one. Y'all have a nice day -
Kerbal Land Speed Record
Specialist290 replied to Kerbiss Kerb Records's topic in KSP1 Challenges & Mission ideas
First off, welcome to the forums! Secondly, as I've noted in my own edit to your post, we discourage people from posting personal contact details in public places on the forums, as it can lead to unwanted attention. Furthermore, there's no reason people can't simply post their screenshots in a response to your post. For one, it will ensure that people know that you intend to be a fair judge who keeps everything above the board (not that we'd have any reason to suspect you, of course, but that extra effort helps...) I'd finally recommend that you take a look at our official Challenge Submission Guide and ensure that your challenge is within those guidelines. In particular, have you attempted the challenge yourself to see if it's actually feasible? Have a nice day -
FAO Squad: Someone's claiming your in-game music as their own!
Specialist290 replied to mod1982's topic in KSP1 Discussion
For the record, it appears that Kevin MacLeod himself is now aware of the issue. -
While I don't quite agree with the way regex has phrased his point, I'm going to back him up on it. I was one of those who got into the game after 0.18 was released, which I believe was around the same time resources were first announced as well. After a while, when it became clear that resources weren't coming as soon as the community had at first anticipated, I decided to check out the Kethane mod. Again, Majiir is a fantastic programmer and mod developer, and at first I was enthralled by the fact that I could run ISRU operations around the solar system, but eventually the whole process of watching a tiny dot slowly trace out a series of tiny lines on a tiny window so that I could find a decent mining site started grating on me,* as it felt like the whole process was too tedious and eating up valuable game time I could have been spending working on other projects. That sense of tedium ultimately prompted me to give up on the mod, although I've flirted with reinstalling it time to time simply to have some way of mining resources. I'm all for resource extraction and exploitation to be added to the game in some fashion eventually -- and, truth be told, I'm more in favor of it than I am multiplayer, since I don't use multiplayer modes on most games I play anyway -- but I don't believe the Kethane model is necessarily the best model for the developers to copy for the stock game. * As did the need to "refresh" the map periodically because the deposit sizes seemed oddly small, but that's tangential to the main issue.

Oo, I'm going to have to take a look at this later. Might make for an interesting Drawing Board supplement

I've taken the liberty of merging your thread into the main discussion, rodion_hererra. That being said, it is an interesting thing to speculate on. At the very least, the Chinese have announced plans for an unmanned sample return for Chang'e 5, so it wouldn't surprise me if they plan on basing the composite lander / return vehicle on their current lander hardware.

Here are some screenshots from the EARLIEST version of KSP!
Specialist290 replied to Sylandro's topic in KSP1 Discussion
This thread has convinced me that any future rocket engines that are added to the game (after the RAPIER) will need to have flamboyantly blue nozzles. Always nice to see a blast from the past like this. Makes you think of how far the game has come in all this time. -
I think you just answered your own question there
-
Speaking as someone with an exceptionally shoddy Internet connection,* it's inclusion or non-inclusion doesn't really mean much to me. I might get around to joining a server eventually, but honestly I've always been more interested in the single-player side of most games I've owned. * Ironically itself provided by a satellite, given that we're talking about a game about technological progress through space exploration.

Resources - postponed, cancelled or reserved for a DLC?
Specialist290 replied to czokletmuss's topic in KSP1 Discussion
I can't really say I'm exactly personally pleased with the news, myself, but I do think that some people are making this into a rather bigger deal than it really is. Keep calm and carry on. It isn't the end of the world. -
Looking for interplanetary help.
Specialist290 replied to Jollyroger6969's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
I could probably give you a little more specific guidance on the matter if you were a little more specific on what you're asking for. In the meantime, however, there are a number of quality tutorials and other resources on interplanetary travel in the Drawing Board, which is conveniently linked through my signature. Hope it helps -
How does 0.23 achieve the optimizations?
Specialist290 replied to Cesrate's topic in KSP1 Discussion
I believe your point has been proven, CalculusWarrior. You can resume normal posting now. -
Welcome to the forums! Glad to hear you've been enjoying yourself. It indeed really is like a drug; even when you try to go without it for a while, the withdrawal symptoms are horrible

Orbital velocity frame of reference
Specialist290 replied to LethalDose's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
Specifically, for orbital velocity, the fixed point of reference is the center of mass of the body whose SoI you're currently inside. If you switch your navball to Orbit mode while still on the launchpad, you'll notice that your craft is still moving relative to that point as the planet rotates about its own axis. -
Oh bugger... Injection burn at Moho
Specialist290 replied to Tokay Gris's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
Short answer: Moho is hard. Slightly longer answer: The problem here is probably not with your procedure, but indeed with the chart itself -- or rather, with some of the assumptions the chart makers go with when putting together these delta-v charts. Moho's orbit has the three disadvantages of being deep in the system's gravity well, having a relatively high eccentricity, and also having a rather significant difference in inclination from Kerbin. Many delta-v charts, however, are constructed on the assumptions of idealized circular orbits with minimal inclination differences, which works well enough for most planets but not all that well for Moho. I'd personally recommend using alexmoon's Launch Window Planner to help out with this one, as it will actually print out a "porkchop plot" to help you determine the best time to launch within a margin of windows. Arrowstar's Trajectory Optimization Tool is quite handy for this as well, and can also be used to calculated gravity-assisted trajectories to Moho that rebound off Eve, to save delta-v (though those take a while to calculate properly). -
Friendly moderator warning: Please remember that while healthy disagreement can lead to productive discussions, making snide remarks about another user's intelligence over your disagreements isn't "healthy." Keep calm, and carry on

This sounds like something for the Space Lounge. Moving there. Sadly, I can't say I've shaken hands with anyone who's ever shaken hands directly with an astronaut. I did hold a brief conversation with a store owner whose father worked as a technician at one of the NASA facilities back in the '60s, however, so I might be at least two handshakes away from one if he ever shook hands directly with an astronaut.

What I Want in 0.24 +
Specialist290 replied to .:- Maybe -:.'s topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
Welcome to the forums! I would like to note that a number of the suggestions in your post, including 64-bit support and changes to the way parts are loaded, are both on the What Not To Suggest list because they have been frequently discussed in the past. Therefore, I'm going to be locking this thread. Have a nice day -
And people say we moderators have no personality... That being said, welcome to the forums, and hope you find the latest release of KSP to your liking, in whatever space-time continuum you may occupy.

I might have been able to guess it. The geass sigil in your avatar might have given it away...

Glad to hear you found my little list helpful, and I'll be looking forward to seeing those screenshots!
