3943: These Humans are found not to be the race that sent the voyager 1: The anatomy from the gold disk doesn't match up. The probe is actually carbon dated, and is found to be millions of years old. The Humans are re-dubbed the Khans. (I'll explain why when we get to 4905, when the ship is set to arrive in the spiral galaxy next door.)

What will you use the Advanced Grabbing Unit (Claw/Clamp) for?
Wahgineer replied to SebLavK's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Claws won't replace docking ports: it has been said that docking ports will have a stronger connection. -
And this isn't the RP forum.

Either: 1) He hasn't seen this thread 2)He saw the thread, read the links in our posts, couldn't think of a reply, said "seems legit", and moved on.

3925: praying ends 3926: Meanwhile, in the depths of space, the Intergalactic Ark launched 26 years ago, prepares to cross the threshold into intergalactic space.

Maybe some of those people (cough, me, cough) joined before 2013, but had our accounts wiped? Or, maybe, we did our research, or looked around on the forums?
-
Yes, please.

Warp bubbles within warp bubbles within warp bubbles.
Wahgineer replied to FREEFALL1984's topic in Science & Spaceflight
While possible, you forgot several things: 1.) The warp bubble idea is technically allowed by the theory of relativity. 2.) A ship with in a warp bubble with in a warp bubble would smash into the front end of the exterior warp bubble, destabilizing both bubbles and destroying the ship. -
How do we fix intake spam?
Wahgineer replied to kiwiak's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
Or: If an intake attached to a part backwards or share he same connection point with another part (say, a clipped intake), it doesn't work. So a vehicle that uses intake spam would have a nasty surprise for it's creator: it could have 3 intakes clipped into each other, but not make it past 15km. If he checked the debug console, it would say: "Ram air intake blocked by ram air intake." several times, based on how many intakes are blocked. -
Actually, I don't think it's aerodynamics that could kill asparagus/payload-specific rockets: it would be the introduction of money. Modular, common core launch systems that launch smaller, more compact, more thought out payloads would be more economical than the " I have a massive ship i threw together in 10 minutes or so, lets build an asparagus rocket capable of launching it" approach.

but my time traveling didn't completely alter the time stream! all right, this ends NOW! KH 3920: All of the time traveling and event changing puts a strain on the space time continuum. As a result, an insane paradox occurs that rids the universe of the Kau, their time machines, and the TM universe. Everything goes back to normal, with the kerbal vessel beginning its long voyage to find the home world of the Voyager 1. 3921: The kerbal ship finds the planet in witch they think the Voyager 1 originates. It seems more like the voyager received a gravity assist, which brought it to their system.

It sort of slices and dices space-time, making a surfboard for its self, and a wave that the surfboard rides on. Since space-time doesn't have to obey the light speed limit, it can contract/move at superluminal speeds without causing time dilation. Since the ship doesn't move relative to its surfboard, it doesn't experience time dilation. (i.e., the ship is moving along with the surfboard of space time, so they don't move relative to each other.)

It's ok, but rather unnecessary: Would it really matter whether we did or didn't know how long it took for a Mun Worm egg to germinate? Also, why censor the date of the Muna-19 mission, but say it happened on the Muna-19 mission? Couldn't we just go look up the date of the Muna-19 mission, it's crew, and their specific tasks? Also, why censor the Muna-** mission, but mention that kerbal's name? Couldn't we then look up his name and find out what mission he was on?

How about giant gasbag creatures that live in Jool's upper atmosphere: There are Man-o-war like creatures that sail using the wind, small plankton like creatures, floating seas of kelp, gasbag whales, and winged predators that fly around using jet propulsion (like a squid) that eat arrow head shaped gas bags that fly around at quite high speeds.

What does "use as spoiler/flap" options do?
Wahgineer replied to quantumpion's topic in KSP1 Mods Discussions
If you ask me, this should be in the game! B9 has spoilers that work with stock aerodynamics; to make the control surfaces work as spoilers would basically be: add spoiler code as a tweakable. If optSpoiler.Value=True Then objSpoiler.Active=True Else objSpoiler.Active=False End If -
I agree with the whole 'number of parachutes*drag<=mass of parts=recovery' thing. What I don't understand is how some want to penalize either rockets or space planes. Each one has it's place: Space planes are reusable, but can't carry as much as some rockets before the cost out weighs the benefits. Rockets are not nearly as reusable, but that is countered by the fact that they can carry massive amounts of cargo. I think that at some point, we should have a stored ships thing: basically, when you store a pre-launched ship, it turns into a sub assembly; identical craft with the same name would basically get stored under the same sub assembly with a multiplier next to it (e.x.: Aeris 3a * 12). This would allow us to drag ships that we had already used back into service, in order to save costs. Depending on what conditions the vehicle has faced determines the refurbishment price (ex: plane below mach 1=0.5%, plane above mach 1=1%, plane above 10k=2%, plane above 20k=3%, plane in space=15% (since it had to re-enter)).

3982: These reports are dictated as false, since the Prehistoric Preserve is only accessible via air tours, which don't even land on the island. The air tours themselves are conducted by very reputable companies, which keep their machines up to date with regulations, and are inspected monthly by the govt to make sure they stay that way.

3 parts away from stock Space Shuttles
Wahgineer replied to MKI's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
For an idea of what a balanced shuttle engine would look like, try the Shuttle engines pack. I have to agree, these parts would be very nice to have. But before these parts get implemented, it would make sense to perform the art pass/rescale that has been talked about regarding the plane parts so far. -
3980: the plant resurrect-ers are dismissed as a bunch of senile, ignorant old coots. Tours over the 'Prehistoric Preserve' continue.
-
3975: After a few confusing months, it is found that the secret project indeed did continue. Soon, the technological dividends of the project come through: more knowledge of genetics, machines capable of accurately assembling genes, etc. Finally, the true purpose of the project was revealed: to resurrect ancient beasts and learn more about DNA and how it works. 3977: A second uninhabited island is turned into a secure wildlife preserve, with daily aerial tours provided by private companies. The ancient creatures created by the project are sent here to live normally.

With 0.24 on the way, it may be possible that an 'auto recovery' mechanic may be added for those stages that are considered by the game to have enough wings/parachutes to land safely. This means that the hypersonic lift stage would be de-spawned, but the game would say "xxxxxx spacecraft returned safely to runway". This way, money wouldn't be lost for those who pseudo ditch their recoverable stages.

Taylor Wilson and NERVA; check out his TED talk.
Wahgineer replied to Dispatcher's topic in Science & Spaceflight
He does realize that the guys who built the NERVA new what they were doing, right? The reason the NERVA wouldn't need this system is because it used a solid, power plant style core, which only needs to be replaced every couple of years. -
3965: The govt drops an antimatter weapon directly onto his hideout, completely annihilating Kerbane. (what is left of) The cult is broken up. 3966: An uninhabited Island is selected to be the site of a secret new project, which is shrouded in secrecy.
