3915: The new chemical was found to be a nothing more than a glitch in some research equipment. It is removed, and Anti-matter retains its place as the most energetic form of matter.

An engine that allows you to lift 10,000 tons to interstellar? Who wouldn't use it?! it would be stupid not to! While the you don't have to if you don't want to phrase works with everything else, it can't really be applied to the Orion drive. Hence where I think the major weakness to the STL only argument lies: a realistic form of interstellar propulsion would eliminate every other engines use. A properly balanced warp drive would fill the niche of an interstellar engine, where as it is impossible to balance an Orion drive without making it pointless or too much of a hassle to use.

My great grandmother actually wired the computers together that went into the CM for the Apollo 11 mission.

is it possible to combine fantasy with sci-fi?
Wahgineer replied to JtPB's topic in Science & Spaceflight
Wizards - various spells to summon storms and natrual disasters Regular humans - Nuclear, thermo-nuclear, and conventional weapons, orbital bombardment weapons, warpdrives, machine guns, quantum computers, etc. I'd say that the wizard is outmatched. -
So I figured out how to get America back into the space game.
Wahgineer replied to Runescope's topic in The Lounge
It was a great idea. Until you put in on the internet for everyone to see. -
3895: A large starship is seen bursting up out of the ocean. It quickly departs into space and vanishes. 3900:Kerbals commemorate the 3,900th year of their existence as a race by building a new megalopolis on the ocean surface inside of the giant crater.
-
And you guys said all I wanted was violence and war. 3810: Warp capable ships cut back and forth across the nebulae made by the supernovae. The disturbances made by their warp drives distribute the gas and other materials so as to avoid a gravitational collapse. 3811: Kerbals discover a strange, purple star and name it Kodirssan. It is alone, except for a massive cloud of asteroids, gases, and dust orbiting it, which is rich with resources. They begin mining the belt.

For Roleplayers: How do you dispose of the LV-N engines?
Wahgineer replied to Markus Reese's topic in KSP1 Discussion
You have design issues if your ships dump nukes during travel. It is much cheaper, easier, and more logical to design a ship to be used again and again. On the other hand, considering Eve is a hot wasteland with oceans made of mercury and blutonium, I highly doubt that few damaged LV-Ns would matter. -
3705: The sky goes dark, replaced by a massive set of words: "Deleting save." Simultaneously, every star explodes, collapses in on itself, and collect into a gigantic black hole. The entire universe is swallowed up. Nothing escapes. For a short time, everything is black. Then, there is a blinding white flash. Once the light dims, an entirely fresh universe: an untouched Kerbin, the normal, lifeless mun, etc, appears. And so kerbal history starts again, as greater creatures look down, and smile as their plans and intentions are carried out. So starts 3705-0001(3705 years after we started, one year after the restart.)

What would YOU want powering YOUR rocket?
Wahgineer replied to KASASpace's topic in Science & Spaceflight
Warp drive* It's plausible. And it leaves other ships in it's dust. You can obviously guess what I'd name ship, right? (Hint: "Khaaaaaan!") -
3200: after the land kraken is defeated, the kaejers are disassembled, and the sea walls are torn down. Kerbals resume their space fairing activities.
-
Well, considering you made a peacekeeper missile...

NASA wants to go to Mars by 2030, and has some idea of what the modules for the ship will look like. While they were designed for the constellation rockets, it would require minimal to no changes to adapt to the SLS.

3183: A trans dimensional wormhole opens, and a tall, humanoid person steps through. He is twice as tall as an average Kerbal, has pale flesh which has been tanned by the sun, is composed entirely of blocks, and hails to be from the land of Minecraftia. Binary code is seen emitting from the portal, which seems to lend some truth to the "Our universe is a simulation in a computer" theory. The Military barricades the portal, questions the Minecraftian, and then orders him to leave. The portal is then blown up, sealing the universes off form each other. The encounter is labeled as classified.

All is forgiven. We're just people, after all. 3155: The ice has more or less shrunk back to it's normal size. Kerbals continue rebuilding their cities, towns, and villages. 3160: Object #088 is taken out of deep storage. It is fitted with a radio controlled driving system, and it's tiny fusion reactor, which has been duplicated into blueprints, is loaded with water. The car starts and accelerates. Once it reaches 88 mph, it is engulfed in blue lightning bolts. The car emits three bright flashes accompanied by three loud bangs, before vanishing into thin air, leaving nothing but twin fire trails to mark it's passing.

TT's Mod Releases - Development suspended till further notice
Wahgineer replied to TouhouTorpedo's topic in KSP1 Mod Releases
Would it be okay to update the Mark IV fuselages to work with 0.23, but put the dll here? As far as I know, you just add PART{ } and it works fine. -
Once the SABRE goes public, I'm pretty sure the US will order a couple of them. They'd then reverse engineer them, build their own, and most likely improve upon them exponentially, considering the same thing happened to the jet engine and steam engine.
-
3153: The Lava has more or less completely drained back down into the mantle: it turns out that the explosions had caused some lava pools to form around only a few bunkers, which had coincidentally been built near hotspots to allow for geothermal power generation. @ciziken20: did you not notice when I said they started to rebuild their farms and cities? that would imply that the world wasn't covered in lava.

Obviously, some people don't get it: NASA is forgetting about LEO, hence why it's supporting/hiring companies to take care of the ISS. Since NASA now wants to focus on bigger and better missions, they'll need a bigger and better rocket. Which is why the SLS is being funded: it's job is to launch probes, sections of interplanetary vehicles, and a vessel for capturing an asteroid. Once you realize that NASA doesn't want anything to do with LEO for now, then you'll see why the SLS is being funded/developed.

I like to put SAS on for those situations where you need more oomph than the control surfaces can provide as well as for it's quick reaction times.

I personally believe that Kerbals are more or less analogous to humans: Sexual reproduction, two separate genders, have large cities, similar grade technology, etc. The reason being is because they're obviously based off of humans, and the game isn't exactly complete regarding the Kerbals history. I also do not believe that they are idiots using random junk to build they're rockets. I believe that they're very competent and smart engineers, which is exemplified in the Ion engine, LV-N, RAIPER, and Aerospike.

Since the rods are 'only' the size of telephone poles, a sufficiently powerful retro package, combined with a drop from a very high polar orbit, could allow the rod to drop more or less straight down. Since it's dense and moving at Mach 10+, the Rod will spend a very short time traveling through the atmosphere. It might be able to cause an Earthquake if several of them were directed at a fault line simultaneously.
