It's to do with your relative velocity compared to it. Typically, we meet it too fast. But, as Coneshot has shown, by getting there will less relative velocity, you encounter the Mun with less than the velocity needed to escape it. Though I don't know if it saves you any delta V, unless you manage to get into that orbit via a gravity assist.

I'm already more than halfway through Tuesday (Wait several hours.)
-
I'm pretty sure mechjeb was made somthing like that. A mechanical imitation of Jeb's brain...
-
Books rule, I too, read them, from time to time. But that book looks very useful for beginners to KSP.
-
Nice. Why not put a link to this in the anniversary thread?, that's in general somewhere. A bit late now, but still.. Good luck with not blowing up...
-
It looks pretty awesome just as a prop! And it fits in with the current parts surprisingly well. Good luck with the project. I particularly like the pattern this forms. Here's Jeb, reentering the atmosphere on a broom at greater than 2km/s I may have cheated a little bit to make it back from the Mun... for the awesome. Ah, that lovely crazed smile..

I reckon if it looks like air can get to them, then it's not unrealistic. That said, if it's currently in the game, it can be used, as long as you don't try to claim that you didn't use it. If someone makes infinigliding practical, I'd love to see something use it to get to orbit. It's mastering of the unique kerbal physics. Which can be pretty awesome at times. Round and round and round for all eternity...

Isn't that the nature of opinion? I suspect you mean view, and in that case, what you say is true. Everyone has their own biases. Everyone.

How to build a ladder around 90 degrees
Tw1 replied to Rocket Farmer's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
You've got to use a few ladder pieces, limiting the angle to about 30 degrees. Sometimes it can be helpful to overlap them a bit, but not too much or your kerbal will get confused. -
Planet Ideas And Names For The Future Of Kerbal Space Program
Tw1 replied to Dead Pixel's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Maybe.. As long as it was one like Dress or Gilly, enough to have bases on. As long as it's also interesting to visit. -
Haha, that would be awesome. Imagine SimCity done with the Squad team's careful approach. It'd end up with all the features I needed mods for, yet be simpler to use. Or, imagine having to build semi-realistic power grids and water systems, with sub-stations and everything... I'd enjoy that.
-
I tend not to post craft files, as there is always a chance I've thrown in a mod part that I've forgot. But this is so simple, it only needs KSPX, and that part will be replaced with the stock version in the next update. I might tweak the launch structure, and post some time in the next day. Maybe.

Wow, your stuff should not be slipping on such a low slope. This would slip a bit, but not much. Something doesn't seem quite right.
-
Welcome! It's pretty much one of the greatest games out, isn't it?
-
I completely missed that! Looks good.
-
Physics warp accelerates time but lets you keep doing stuff. It's really useful for long drives, flights, burns, or whatever, provided everything is running stably. What kind of slope are we talking here? Could we get a navball reading?
-
Perhaps there is something else that is causing the sliding problem. If you use physics warp, things tend to slide whatever you do.
-
Kerbals are kinda creepy when they talk without their lips moving...
-
Realised I kinda hijacked the thread there, so I'd better pick a winner. But they're all so great. I think I'll go with searlefm's one though. Don't know what the prize will be, I'll name a station after you or something. I can think of a few more, but more references than puns. "You're a wizard, Jeb" "Jeb's Delivery service." "Anyone for kquidditch?" If multiplayer of some sort is made by someone, playing quidditch around tiny moons, with someone being the ion/monopropellant powered snitch would be awesome fun.
-
That was a well timed shot! ♪Spider-kerb, Spider-kerb, does whatever a spider can... Finally a Kerbal who looks suitably horrified when that happens.
-
They did make some good games once. I've not bought one for ages, and may not due to what I hear.
-
It was one of those moments where you get an idea and then think "I must go visit the kerbals straight away." You're a wizard, Jeb. Works nicely as a transport system on Minmus, as you need so little thrust there. It can easily go right around the entire moon. (Via orbit, or suborbital hops.) Edit: How do you get something like this to space? With a rocket. How to you get a kerbal to a seat on a broom on a rocket? With a complex launch tower. Took more to get the tower right than anything else.

I think it's better here. My Jeb's first visit to the Mun. Jeb didn't make it to the Mun in my first attempts. He then didn't turn up for ages, must have had work to do at his junkyard. Then, one day, I was testing a plane, and there he was! The test flight went well, then Jeb decided to go for a walk. In flight. The results of this activity taught my space centre that aeroplane EVAs were a bad idea. Yet he survived the landing somehow, clinging on to the control surfaces. Then, I gave him a job. I had two kerbalnaughts stuck on the moon, so Jeb was given a Z-4 Munar Rescue rocket, that was very much the workhorse of my program back then. The trip to orbit went pretty normally, and the transfer burn as well. But somewhere between Kerbin and the Mun, Jeb had a little adventure. It was standard procedure to extend the ladders mid-flight, and make pilots walk down them, to stretch their legs. Jeb took this to the next level. He went all the way down the ladder, and let go. He then pioneered Jetpacking in space, something no kerbal had been brave, or dumb enough to try before. But against the odds, he ended up back in the pod before too long. He set the ship down within 2 kilometers of the stranded kerbals, then flew over and greeted them each personally. They were very excited to meet one of the first kermen to go to space. After about a day on the Mun (first time he actually made it). Jeb and the others moved back to his ship. Jeb remained in his favorite one man pod, but still scared the others with his famously manic grin. The fight back went perfectly, and featured a few more EVA stunts from Jeb, then they landed safely just a kilometer out of KSC. That's my contribution. Next!

Planet Ideas And Names For The Future Of Kerbal Space Program
Tw1 replied to Dead Pixel's topic in KSP1 Discussion
One planet idea I'd love to see, which I've posted about a time before, is a planet that shares Kerbin's orbit, but is 180 degrees ahead. What does it look like? Doesn't matter, that's Nova's job. I'm imagining blue and green flats though, maybe a lost brother of Minmus. The important aspect is its position. I like to think of it as "Antikerb". A conventional transfer wouldn't work, but you'd never need to wait for launch windows. It'd be a great place for a base, hopefully it's not too hard to launch from. It'd not be overly hospitable, but a little like Mun or Mimus. Liquid on the surface may add interest. Just an idea Nova may want to consider. Though L3 points aren't particularly stable, something like this would still be awesome, for gameplay reasons.
