It is possible, but would be difficult. Editing things into orbit isn't too hard, but if you get the altitude wrong, then your base will just explode. I suggest downloading hyperedit, even as a temporary measure, and using that instead. Use the orbit editor to put your things in orbit around the right body, then the lander to land them. Also, next time, scroll down a bit, and you'll find the questions sub-forum. (And even more awesome things below that.)

Um, another mostly shameless plug.... I'm kind of writing a story like that. Illustrating too, along with a few others. Bit of a different take to the works of KSK, or Deadweasel. It loosely fits in to the continuity of my other stories, but it's mostly based on certain real life events. But I think you guys can work out what...

Sure you don't mean Danny? These giant Kerbals look like some sort of spirit thing to me.

Cal thinks he's going to see Nebula? How far is this ship going? I imagine Jeb will never truly retire, but will instead buy his own private island use his funds to create awesome machines ready to save kerbals in danger, piloted by his children now he's too old to do so himself, and they will have an awesome secret base with... Wait, what do you mean this idea's not original? Or, retire to the Mun. It's not a bad place...

IDK, I like to think of KSC2 as my backup site. And that you're the only space program, at least at first.

Maybe briefly. The real problem I find with career is that science, which should provide you will a lot of things to do, is just a click and collect mechanism. When you read about all the clever things real life space missions do, with spectrometers, and mapping a planet via gravitational anomaly. Actually building up data and measuring things... KSP's science mechanism seems limited and boring. I hope some of the more fancy stuff that was planed early on like cryovolcanoes, etc, one day comes through.

The "You know you're playing a lot of KSP when..." thread
Tw1 replied to Phenom Anon X's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Writing an essay on Cassini/Huygens, typing stuff about how Titan is the only moon known to have a thick atmosphere, and I get a nagging feeling I'm wrong somehow. Laythe. The other moon I was thinking of was Laythe. -
I'm more a land-the-whole-shebang-at-once kind of guy. I have two colonies, one on Minmus, one on the Mun, built of a few modules spread 2.5 km apart. I do add other parts, they get KAS pipe attached to the large modules.

The closer your rocket is to space at launch, the easier it will be to get there. Today, I added a new module to my Kerbal Space Station. It now has a leg to stand on blast debris with. Further EVA was undertaken to rearrange RCS ports from their module delivery positions, to their final positions. Then, I decided to try and land the delivery module, so it could be recycled. It didn't quite have the TWR, so burning off fuel, and a careful touchdown was necessary. Landed it like an absolute boss.

Decided to apply science. This handsome guy is about 75 cm according to Jeb's big stick. It's clearer in game than in these pictures. With the helmet on, he's closer to 90cm. Thought these measurements may not be perfect, as my measuring apparatus was possesed by wiggle horse/kracken.

Whalers on the Mun - not that kind of Sea of tranquility

Sooo.... Will there be whales? -
Jenkin: "This is the end Stealth Rover! You won't get away from us now!" Thomford: "There's nowhere left to run!" Jenkin: "But...how?" Everyone knows stealth things that look like trees can go over water right? Stealth Rover lives on!

How will budget work?
Tw1 replied to quantumpion's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
I didn't see budget per time/per launch as part of a challenge, more of an immersion adding factor- but that's a good point. Idk, I what's the largest mass anyone's brought to space by SSTO? Multi stage lifters can lift larger payloads. That's surely an advantage. I do like the system you propose, it's not far of what i meant by having contracts "top up" the budget. Personally, I'd have an ethical quam about selling science points, but it is just a game.. Maybe selling them at a low price would improve your reputation more rapidly. There we go, more complexity. I hope it isn't too simple in the long run, that would be a little boring. -
How will budget work?
Tw1 replied to quantumpion's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
Overall, I agree with this point of view. However, the flaw in the per-launch approach is the fact that once docking ports are added, you can do a million small launches and make huge vessels in orbit. This does not strike me as realistic budget management. One approach would be a set allowance per year/month/some amount of time, which can be topped up using money earned per contract finished. This budget rises or falls based on your reputation. Selling reputation directly makes little sense, I'd prefer to see a level that rises and falls based things like your kerbal death rate, how often you succeed in fulfilling a contract, the level of science you've collected, etc. Except I think Squad's trying to keep politics and military issues out of the game. -
I bet he would've liked KSP. Ooo, there's a potential Doctor Who episode... Guess what! It's your lucky day. I came up with an even more suitable name, as I was drawing on the train tonight. This time, I think it will stick.

The title is intriguing.
-
Maybe... Doesn't give away major plot points, speaks to what the story is about, could link to something that will happen down the track... Yes, I like it. "The Kerbal Space Program- An origin story" may be exactly what is says on the tin, but it's not particularly punchy as a title.

What is your biggest and smallest ship in KSP?
Tw1 replied to lefty39's topic in KSP1 The Spacecraft Exchange
My biggest thing is probably my Kerbal space station. I really should give that guy some limbs some time. My smallest would be the ladderlift frame. SSTO to most places, as long as you only need so many burns.... -

If you ask me, what made Wackjob's craft so impresive, was not just their size. There are a few other forumers who also create impressive, massive rockets. It was the craziness and cleverness of the structural engineering that made Wackjob's craft so impresive. Size is not the main issue. The added strength is the issue. Wackjob, I suggest your next KSP project should be something involving huge, crazy, flying structures. Maybe build a tree out of the largest tanks, spread out with many trusses. OR perhaps something made of many large tanks held together at seemingly crazy angles, resembling a pile of sticks, held together with some strutting magic. Make it huge, and get it into orbit in one peice. Think big, complex, crazy, nigh-impossible.

That's very clever. I'll also do this from now on.
