  1. Speaking of XKCD, this sounds like a great kerbal practical joke.
  2. You're back again, good to see. I've been having a few bugs, but I think they are already known: With the EVA oxygen storage- they take it out when they leave the ship, but they don't put it back in when they enter again. Also, would it be possible to have kerbals draw oxygen through the seats? At the moment, the don't, though it would make sense if there was some little pipe for giving them O2 them. O2 is not being used in unloaded vessels, making it easy to manage while off doing other things bases. Is a mechanism for monitoring resource levels in unloaded vessels somthing in the longterm plan? I'm also finding scrubbers activated in vessels when you first launch, yet not staying on when you switch back to them later. And for the record, I think the life support numbers are pretty well balanced.
  3. Oh no! And after all that time.. I like the idea of Kerbal greasing though.
  4. I came to the forum tonight, thinking I need a VTOL, fast, capable of getting me to the south pole range, and with no questions asked. This product works as advertised. Would recommend. Not quite as stable as I like, but it was plenty fine. Exceeded 1km/s, with style. Sparkles! This must be some sort of undocumented feature! Landing at destination. Perhaps I should've learnt to land this thing first... Overshot my landing and crashed. Opps. Ended up having to revert flight on this one.
  5. Thanks guys! Came up with it as part of my latest story, but only needed one image. Couldn't let the others go to waste, could I? Also, Kerbin City's next version has been released! Go check it out! Nothke's new airport, and all the buildings he included. I suggest you use Kerbin City as a sometimes mod, and unload it when you're not using it. But be careful when exploring. You've got to watch for ledges and things.
  6. Welcome to the Kerbal forums! Good luck with all future missions!
  7. Narrating a bit here. I intend to switch between this, and script style dialogue. So, officially, the Eve One Project was shelved. However, the reality was quite a different story.... The history of Mun Prograde City. A vision for a city on the Mun first emerged in the late 19th era, long before the strange appearance of craters in the 21st: The new space center on the Mun took shape, ready to launch missions of its own. So who are we sending to Eve? Eve is a harsh place, and that's an understatement. Yet when KSC asked for volunteers for a one way trip, a surprising amount signed up. There were several hundred willing kerbals, but one stood out far above the rest. Meet Watsan Kerman. Geochemist. Mountaineer. Two time winner of the Annual Kerbin Regata. (Sure, it was only because all the other boats sank, but that's the kind of skill you want on Eve right?) He also really, really, likes the colour purple. I can assure you the inside of that house is mostly purple. This is a publicity shot, him trying on his first space suit. One thing makes him particularly suited for this Eve mission: At the moment, he happily lives the life of a hermit, alone in the southern mountains, rarely making contact with other kerbals. In a few weeks time, KSC will send a plane to the edge of the mountains to pick him up, and take him back to KSC where he will gain some space flight experience. He'll need it, that's for sure. 90 days until the Eve window...
  8. This is the one bug that really bugs me. I hope it's squashed sooner rather than later. If needs be, plugins with node manipulation tools, like precise node or mechjeb can help.
  9. It reminds me of a problem I had with a vehicle I landed on Minmus, each time I reloaded, the thing would jump up ten meters with the wheels broken. I suspected something was up with the terrain and the wheel's colliders, and added on legs with a kerbal and KAS's part attaching feature. It was fine after that.
  10. While I believe there are male and female gendered kerbals, in my experience, actual reproduction involves a symboict relationship between Kerbals and cockpits. Figure A: Matdas can no longer return to the pod, because it is now occupied by her offspring. Figure B: Before long, Matdas had produced many children. You know, it would explain why they call the part you drive a plane from a [CENSORED]
  11. An extract from the story I wrote about the rebuilding of the space centre: So some sort of plastic/metal matrix..
  12. I particularly liked the comment about that when I was watching your Constelation video. Just the other night, I had a whole space shuttle stollen. Yep. Sh'tuule TT was on its way to Minmus, to serve as my base's emergency return vehicle. Next time I played, it was gone. Nothing of it in map view, tracking station, kerbal alarm clock, nope, nada. There is a tiny chance it impacted Minmus while I was doing something with another member of that flotilla, but I'm sure it didn't have that low a periapsis. Lucky it was unmanned, and there weren't any kerbals abducted as well.
  13. The thing is though, it's not about rules and restrictions getting in the way, it's about who's making the choices of what's going to be done. Are you working under the instructions of some other organisation, them giving you money to achieve their goals? Or are you running an organisation of your own, that seeks funds from others to achieve its own goals? I bought into the game partially at the idea of running my own space program, not running someone else's. This is likely why I'm not a fan of set missions. I'd like to take my program in the direction I want. If you've got the budget somehow, got the technical expertise (player skill), and a trip to Duna is the first thing you want to do, why not? Budget, tech tree, and life support are realistic constraints within the game universe, same as the fact that you need a certain amount of delta V to get to orbit, or certain TWR to land without crashing. The challenge is working within the many constraints to achieve what you intend to do. "Missions" like "You must do five Mun landings before you can go to Duna" are arbitrary restraints. Why five? Why isn't it X? Duna's there, I have parts, funds, and the skill, why can't I try to go to it? Failure- loss of a kerbal- will have consequences, and that will deter those who aren't confident they can support such a mission. Testing and practice will happen naturally as you play, unless you want to risk failure. I don't think any guidance is needed, at least, not on what to do.How to do it maybe. You're given a set of spaceship parts. Out there is a solar system. Shouldn't it be obvious? The thing is though, I'd love contracts to enhance the game, rather than being sets of instructions you must do or not do. Things like, Prof. T. Kerman wants to get ---- data on ---- on Duna, could you do that for him? Or Ben Kerman wants a trip to Dres, could you take him with you on your next trip? Etcetera. If you've got plans to go to Duna, might as well do the test Prof. Kerman wants, it will make him happy. But, if you've got no plans to go to Dres in the near future, Ben will have to wait. Or, you could take pity on him, and start planning a Drew mission immediately. See, this kind of system would give a far more dynamic, and interesting experience, than a "Now you're going to do X" type system. We play this game for entertainment right? Not to tick boxes. I want to experience managing a space program, not ticking boxes. I want to generate my own kerbal histories, as sandbox has demonstrated is possible, not just follow pre programed paths.
  14. Sort of. I know people who have played it, at least, but as far as I know, none of them are frequent players, none of them are on this forum. The person below me has slept through an appointment they didn't know they had...
  15. I think you've got the right idea, 4800m/s should be enough to achieve orbit around Kerbin. And for a simple rocket, yep. Just TWR, and delta V. You'll need electricity of coarse, and bigger things need reaction wheels to turn about in space with any speed. Tip: use the map view to tell when your rocket has a trajectory that will clear the atmosphere. Then, when you're near the top of that curve, it's a very good time to start burning to orbit... Welcome to the kerbal forums!
  16. This was more or less the same as my first ever Duna experience. If only I'd known about aerocapture...
  17. Damn spider, keeping me up... Someone should ask how long a typical working day is at squad.
  18. I hope it will be added in too. To both. I'd like to ask a few things, but can't stay up all night tonight. So if anyone else wants to raise similar things: With eva requiring monopropellant, will there be some added to crew pods, or will it be that you need to bring it separately? Were the changes to the terrain at the island with the airstrip intentional, or was the beach lost as a side effect of the terrain change to all of Kerbin? Will the game be focused around scoring points, or are you going to add further levels to science, for a cooler experience? It'd be cool if someone could throw those up for me. Thanks!
  19. I had a look, I think I can fix it. GIMP made some pretty bright cities, reminds me of the paintball look in the early versions. When my exams are over. The Kerbin clouds are looking great now. Kinda spooky here. "I thought we were already on the Mun."
  20. Mostly, it's based on functionality, unless I have a randomly cool idea, like using communitrons as bristles to make a flying broomstick, or RTGs and I-beams to make that something like throne thing from that game of thrones show. Often, if there aren't going to be problems with delta V, part count, I'll modify my design to make it cooler looking, but often the need for symmetry and balance makes it aesthetically pleasing anyway. Or maybe it's just I have an eye for design, and adjust for looks unconsciously. Everything on that plane was designed because it needed to perform a specific task, though I really like this picture. I'm 20, btw.
  21. Uh, sort of. It's has crashed many times. I have a pile of these from the last few versions. The use below has more crash reports lying around than me.
  22. If nobody minds, I'll put this link here. http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/45604-Going-to-space-With-a-Mass-Driver-A-small-adventure Looking through stuff I'd written a while ago, it seemed like it worked as a sequel, so I'm putting it in for easy access. I like reading older stories again from time to time.
  23. Have you tried it on other planets too? I'm tempted to send one to my Mun Base, then we can hold all of Kerbin to ransom. Muah ha ha ha ah!
