  1. Where is the OPT J61 MK2 engine gone in last version??? A lot of my SSTO use it! Do I have to rebuild all of them ?? Shame!

  3. You can see here an escape to a 110km orbit with the previous remote version of Eve Escaper (nearly similar- on this one I add, science stuff, repackable chutes, speed brakes and cooling system to fly unlimited time, all ejectable to climb to 14kms) Look after mn 3.30
  4. Here is my mission to Eve with a plane. The goal was to design a plane able to: -Enter Eve Atmosphere and land -Explorer Eve -Leave Eve and join an orbiting shuttle to return to Kerbin The Torch nuclear turbojet engines from Atomic Age from Porkjet is able to run in oxygen less atmosphere without combustible, the downside being it is very heavy. So i designed an aircraft able to support a rocket that would be launched from the plane in flight to join a return shuttle in Eve orbit at 110kms 6 big Torch nuclear turbojets motorized the aircraft up to 14kms altitude. Range is unlimited for exploration. Crew is only 1, but I will try a 2 crew cabin as the rocket is able to reach 110km when launched from 14kms. The aircraft is very touchy to land on rough land and it is better to be helped by Pilot assistant. Speed brakes and repackable drag chutes will break it quickly Some ejectable experiment devices are included on the plane for science. Total weight on Eve is 210T. The rocket to orbit is a 59T rockets with a lot of stages For the final take off to reach orbit, everything that is non necessary is ejected from the plane: Gears, Cooler system for Nuclear turbojets, Science devices, repackable drag chutes, speed brakes....This help the plane to reach 14kms before launching the rocket. During the launch the plane is destroyed. A 67T Ablators shield system protect the plane during Entry and Eve aerobraking provided the 8 ejectable vernors on the nose of the rocket keep the plane centered on retrograde. These vernors run on 2 ejectable tanks Under 15 kms 2 chutes combined with the vernors allow the plane to nose down to eject the ablator shield. Then vernors tanks, chutes and vernors are ejected while starting the nuclear turbojet. Here is the launch with SpaceY engines and 5m tanks rocket launcher. Here we are with the breaking rocket, protected also by ablators shield for Eve aerobraking. The shield of the rocket are mounted on Hinges. They can open and close. I had to make a burn at 85 kms to reach an 10.000 kms Apoapsis, then I perform aerobraking up to a 102 km orbit. Initially, for Eve orbit interception i was not able to set a Periapsis under 85kms, aerobraking was to hot and the whole thing would explode, so I had to burn. After the first burn I set the peri at 79.5 and aerobraked for around 20 tours, peri going down progressively to 75. Here we are at circular orbit 102 Kms. Note that a small shuttle on the top of the plane near the 2 chutes that will helped to eject the shied and nose down under 15kms Shuttle ejection Entering after last burn Breaking rocket ejection Explosion Descending and breaking on retrograde Final descent before opening chutes Chutes opened Shield ejected Nuclear engines started and vernors tanks and chutes ejected On final for landing Short final 80m/s on Pilot assistant, plane being touchy and fragile for landing. In flight it can bear many g up to the red gauge. On ground breaking Kneeling the plane to allow Jeb out Collecting experiment Repacking chutes Back to cockpit Next time we take off for exploration.   5. Automation is what we use every day. It's part of life. You can enjoy doing every manually, doing math again and again, try again and again to see if the rocket you have designed is able to fly, but why don't allow tools for those who don't want to do math, for those who want to design with modern tools, for those prefer to fly with automation. It's not cheating, it's just more optional possibilities to design and fly as you like and make the game attractive to more people. It's like playing, carrier, science or sandbox..... If your pleasure is to fly manually, then do it, if your pleasure is more to design than fly, then fly with automation .....or not...where is the problem? If there were so many players flying manually and designing by doing math, there won't be so many download for all those mods!
  6. For me Pilot Assistant, MechJeb and Docking port alignment indicator are like Autopilot in the Space Shuttle or a modern Jet. Could you imagine spationaut or pilot on the stick for hours on prograde, making all calculations on a sheet, docking without any electronic help.....? Performing a manually landing or launch or take off is awesome and i like to be on the stick, but what's the interest to do all prograde run manually, specially on big ship when the game lags ? What interest to burn retrograde manually before re entering? Better be on my SSTO stick to perform Cobra during re-entry..... And beyond that, even if Mechjeb or pilot assistant or what else is implemented, it must be optional to use it...
  7. Vote for mods you would like to see integrated for build, testing and use Mods like RCS build aid and Kerbal engineer seems to be essential for building balanced ship that fit your goals. A mod like TAC fuel balancer seems also essential for use of complex ship Mods like Mechjeb and Pilot assistant are great help for piloting.

  9. No thank's, I mean, what the interest to pilot manually a passengers aircraft ? Mechjeb can do the job, better than us! I build a lot of SSTO passenger aircrafts, no so big, and I use mechjeb except for landing and take off.
  10. Why no Mechjeb ? No passenger aircrafts exists without autopilot!!
  11. About suborbital division rules may I understand that i can use whatever modded engine I want, except those from Interstellar, and whatever mode provided it does not change the aerodynamic of the aircraft?

Would it be possible to make some improvements as follow: As we are able to balance all or a part of the tanks, it would be great to be able to lock, transfert in or transfer out all or a part of the tanks ?   15. Hey guys I built an odd machine, a mix between a nuclear plane and a rocket to reach orbit. I hyper edited it on Eve. The nuclear engines of the plane brings up the whole thing at 13000m where the rocket is released. The top of the rocket can reach a 110 kms orbit. Eve escaper can also be used to fly over Eve and is able to land. I got some idea to de-orbit the thing and descent on retrograde protected by tons of ablator. What I do not know is if it will support the transition between retrograde and prograde, once under 13000m. This thing is "fragile" and very tricky to pilot. I only pilot it through pilot assistant because it looks like you are always on the top of a pin when flying under 5000m over Eve. Landing must be a kiss if you do not want to destroy the 200T ship. I made some test flights and managed to land it near the sea. You can sea that on a vid, take off is touchy - i used bank 0 on Pilot assistant and the gear suffered on landing, due to braking, but did not break. Since that I did some improvement. Take off is much better, don't need to jump on Bank 0, and landing seems better with a pair of chutes.

  17. Nuclear Lightbulb, that you can tweakscale, is a fantastic nuclear engine for use out of atmosphere: very good isp, fantastic range with use of fuel only and good TWR. Use it with AHMS and 2 deployable radiators from Heat Management mod and it will never overheat, unless you use it in atmospheric flight on a spaceplane that would have encountered kinetic overheating. It's perfect for landers or interplanetary travel. If LightBulb temperature is beyond a critical temperature ( i don't which) it will never cooled and will explode very quickly. Maybe it could be your transition engine to reach Kerbin orbit on a rocket, as with rocket design you are not generally struggling with overheating to reach orbit. So if you start it in the last 20 kms, after rocket engines have shut down and if your rocket is not overheated, maybe it could be ok, but don't forget AHMS and radiators.....

  19. My spaceplanes take no more than 6 mn to climb to orbit. Yes, KerikBalm, spaceplanes are extremely unrealistic. But do you think an ascent Eve vehicle is more realistic? is it realistic to be able to send such a vehicle to land on Eve, then be able to climb to orbit? i plyed 2 years with only rockets, then i tried planes and it tooks me a lot of time to be able to design SSTO, I tried FAR, then leave, then tried again, it never ends, it's so interesting.... I used to play carrier, and as i don't want to begins a new carrier each time the game update, i play sandbox now....

But there's a big part of dream as you can imagine SSTO and rockets that would not be real on Earth, that's the funny and fiction part of KSP and it's as interesting to build and imagine all kind of rockets or SSTO as trying to fly them.... Realism, dream and fiction, realism mods and fiction mods, melted or not melted, that's all what make KSP a unique game...
  21. In reality, asparagus staging as we use in KSP is not used as much because of complexity. In KSP it's the only way to send huge loads to orbit. About spaceplanes, in reality, the X 51 Waverider is trying to reach Mach 6, (he reached Mach 5) with technology of scramjet engine and the technology to reach mach 22 is tested through the Advanced Hypersonic Weapon. Speed to reach orbit in KSP is around Mach 7 and for earth it's around Mach 25! We can say we have on Earth the technology for KSP SSTO but not for asparagus rockets!
  22. With the spaceplane, every ton you launch to orbit can land at Space Center, except fuel, and be re used. There's some interesting mods with ramjet engines that allow to send 5 orange tanks in orbit, and other mods that allow mining and self refueling. So with the exception of Duna, where landing is like rolling dice even with a good autopilot, and Eve where you need non atmospheric (oxygen) and very powerful engines, you can almost go every where with a spaceplane. Since the 1.0 version and the heating problem on re-entry I have only been on spaceplanes and i know how to deal with re-entry. I am on a project for Eve and my problem is that I do know nothing about atmospheric entry and heating problem on a big rocket assembly landing to Eve.....
  23. Very strange: is this pack suppose to replace this one from June 2015 that works on 1.0.4 and 1.0.5 Because when I use it I don't see any B9 wings in my SPH !
