  1. It would be a very bad rebranding. If you check out the scum traps in the sewers of Steam you will find it littered with (*blank*) Simulator "games" in it. While there are certainly a few actual games, some of them being pretty good, most are just trashy asset flips that barely qualify as "games".
  2. Hi, Just commenting so I can find this post easier. I normally just use search to find this. If there's a better way let me know! Can't wait to actually play 1.8 as I'm still using my 1.7 Save for now.
  3. I was really looking forward to this movie. So much so that I went to see it at a Thursday preview in IMAX. Sadly though, I didn't enjoy it very much. I knew going in that it was going to focus more on Neil and less on Apollo, but I didn't realize how narrow that focus was going to be. Just about every other astronaut and key figure, besides Ed White and Elliot See, are only referred to by their first name if at all. The movie focuses entirely on Neil and his family life and the struggles he goes through there. That in itself wouldn't bother me, but there are a few times in the movie where the director takes a few too many artistic liberties with the depiction of some events in order to frame the narrative he's trying to construct. The look of everything is very nice though. It was cool seeing old historical video cleaned up and remastered, and sometimes just recreated in modern Hi-definition. But even that ran into a few pitfalls. For example, the contact light call that @tater mentioned was enough to take me out of the moment watching the film. That and the insane rotational velocity depicted during the Gemini 8 emergency was a bit much, but again that was done with drama in mind and not accuracy. The Apollo 1 incident also had some editing and visual choices done in the name of focusing on the narrative. So overall I think it's a fine film for which most of us here are probably not the ideal target audience. People who watch it who don't know as much about the subject will probably enjoy it much more than I did, and hopefully inspire some to look into it further.
  4. I have the same issue with crashing as it reaches the main menu. I tried the newest version from Github ,with the same results.
  5. The full text on the error is "No Terrain in Range to analyse". It worked once for me after many many attempts, but I have been unable to get it to work again. Currently on the Mun trying it.
  6. My brother was staying with me for christmas, so after all the holiday things were done I sat down to play a little KSP before bed. My brother came in and asked what I was playing so I told him about it and was going to show him my next launch. I always use Kerbal Construction Time mod, so as a result many of my missions are prepped and built well in advance of their actual launch. My brother was pestering me to do something quick, so I picked the next project that was nearing completion and timewarped to its completion. Not even knowing the purpose of the mission it was prepared for I played a quick game of match the build with the contract and determined it was a satellite prepped for munar orbit. I was actually kinda nervous as I'd never had anyone watching over my shoulder for a launch, but it went off without a hitch and I was on the way to the Mun. I timewarped towards my munar orbit injection and it was then that I realized in my haste I had skipped a fairly important step. The satellite was reporting negative communication with KSC, and I thought that it was me simply forgetting to face my panels into the sun before warping, and I told him I could fix it by cheating a bit. Unfortunately, upon closer inspection, I realized the problem was much worse. Because I was using the construction mod, I had built my satellite without any solar panels (They were supposed to be installed after initial construction, since the better version would have completed research by then). I explained the mishap to my brother and we had a good laugh "It's only a couple hundred million dollars, and besides I have others, I didn't need that one anyways!". After he left and went to bed I went to the tracking station and deleted the mission. I'll just add that one to the "Loss of Vehicle" pile.
  7. This is actually not that an uncommon thing on laptops. Most likely the heat sink has been slightly jarred. If you are comfortable with it, open up the laptop and tighten the screws on the heatsink. What happens is that even if there is a tiny gap opened between the CPU and the heat sink it won't be able to properly dissipate the heat so modern CPUs throttle themselves down, hence the 100% usage. If not, take it to a geek squad or something and ask them to try either tightening up the screws on the heat sink or reseating it.
  8. This is technically a Steam question, but I thought I'd ask it here first since it pertains to KSP specifically. Can I modify a shortcut on my PC to launch the 64 Bit version of KSP through Steam's launcher? I currently have a shortcut on my desktop which runs the following: "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\Steam.exe" -applaunch 220200 This launches the 32 bit client which I had in previous version just replaced with the _x64 equivalent, essentially fooling the launcher. I would like to avoid that if possible.
  9. Very cool site. I saw late into it that they had Armstrong's heart rate monitor. Was kinda interesting to see it go up so high around landing. I don't think anyone needed proof of the kind pressure they were under, but there it is.
  10. Must've been a nice view from the cape. I'm all the way in Tampa, and I was actually able to make out the 2nd stage lighting because it's so clear..... OMG the landing video is such a tease!
  11. A huge rocket lifting off from the earth in a fiery extravaganza is a lot more compelling watch than listening to broken radio broadcasts while staring at a room that is staring at screens. Everyone can view the former and get something out of it, while the latter is not as much of a broad appeal. That being said, I liked watching the screens in the Roscosmos mission control

  13. Nice clear day, I'm gonna go watch it outside. I'm on the opposite coast, but you can still see it on a clear day. Not really that epic looking from here, but still kinda cool.
  14. Triton. Even though some of the appeal of actually visiting it was removed when we all found out how cool Pluto and Charon were, Triton is still the most interesting to me. It rotates retrograde extremely close to Neptune, has an active surface similar to Pluto; it appears, and has a small atmosphere. And the fact that it wasn't born around Neptune makes it interesting by that fact alone. I want to know where it's been and what it's been through. But if we're just going for cool looks it's gotta be Mimas right? Can't argue with the Death Star less it find our lack of faith in it disturbing!
  15. I generally have no problem getting my SSTOs to orbit with sufficient delta v. The challenge for me usually lies in the reentry. I tend to build single wing configs.... so they fly fine at supersonic speeds.... but tend to be a pain to handle upon rentry and eventual landing. have lost my fair share of them while doing the "Safe" part; atmospheric flight.
  16. Interesting read, I've never looked into the details of the report as much as this article does. But even after all the theoretical ideas which would've taken hollywood levels of luck to accomplish, the fact remains that by sending up a 2nd mission, you are now KNOWINGLY sending up a crew with a possibly catastrophic defect on their vehicle. Even if they had a standby shuttle ready to go, this would've still been the case.
  17. I was just about to suggest EVE Online as having a number of practical looking ships as compared to streamlined jets in other sci-fi. Alias72's statement pretty much describes the combat in EVE... A lot of circling around while trying to keep at a range which is more beneficial to you than your opponent. The movement itself though isn't very accurate as it more resembles the traditional Hollywood flying motion than realistic movements, but it does however actually take 3 dimensions into account.
  18. Same here. I saw it at a 2:30 AM showing last night. Of course I was there opening night for all the prequels too, but this time I left the theatre feeling great about the movie. Overall it's very strong. The acting of Ridley and Boyega are great. And Ford isn't phoning this one in, you don't see Harrison Ford, you see Han Solo. Most of the fan service doesn't seem jammed in, it fits more naturally (Most, Not all). The story is pretty basic, but the execution of it is great so you can forgive the issues with it. Kind of like CA: The Winter Soldier. I may actually return to theatres to watch this again in a few weeks when it isn't so jammed packed. I was so close to the screen I couldn't take in the periphery without averting my eyes from the center.

  21. It's funny, Until I watched that Scott Manley video I never put 2 and 2 together to realize that this was the infamous "GoreSat". When I heard about DSCOVR my reaction was that I was happy that they were finally putting up a satellite in Earth/Sun's L1 like the "GoreSat" was supposed to be, not realizing that it essentially was the same satellite from the early 2000's, just re branded and with newer toys.
