Really did nothing but fiddle with mods, editing .21 parts, read up on things that were still unclear to me, discovered that the orbital photo experiment I came up with was already done somewhere else ... ... downloaded that mod instead for the part. Messed with my satellites with the new insight I acquired here and tweaked the failed Kethane rig to not loose its uplink that easily next time.

[WIP] Parts from my garden shed - SCANsat Antennae
KerbMav replied to Milkshakefiend's topic in KSP1 Mod Development
Somewhere I saw a replacement for the maptraq thingy - but it wasnt here, was it? -

They are not showing in the science center, I was just blind to see the new dishes. The old ones that got replaced are only in the download still - to support old vessels as I now know. Interesting little trick though, with -1 ... should remember that. -

Ah, see them now, just being dumb. But there are more parts then are available still. You added two dishes to category = -1 ? So, this raises another question - is the arc of a dish only relevant when pointing at a body, and pointing at anything else establishes a site to site comm line with no spread? -

Yes, you can. You can even establish a link with a dish and an antenna, as long as the dish is facing the antenna and the antenna can reach the dish with its range. Check list: KSC is connected to a big (or more) dish that has the range to reach Duna dish is targeting Duna satellite at Duna has dish with range to Kerbin is targeting Kerbin has either a dish to point to your rover or an omni-antenna with range to reach the surface, covering the area your rover is in your rover has a dish targeting the satellite or an omni antenna in range of the satellite no planet or moon covering the signal satellites are high enough to "look" around the curve of the planets surface everything has sufficient power -

In the RemoteTech_Settings.cfg set EnableSignalDelay = False - must have run and used the mods UI in the map at least once. So, after installation two starts are required. Cilph, why is the cfg file only created after running the game once instead of zipped in with the mod? Just being curious. A craft with room for at least 6 Kerbals (and then staffed with at least 6) and the big round disky probe core, antennas/dishes and power supply. (As I read it, the lab will only increase the science gained while transmitting data.) -

To repeat my question - for they are not appearing in any of my career mode games. (The longer omni, the Giga-Dishes etc.) -

A craft with room for at least 6 Kerbals (and then staffed with at least 6) and the big probe core, yes. On the ground I would most likely use the hitchhiker, in space we can go haywire as usual! -
My friend, regardless if I agree with your mother or whatever it was you did to make her do it - if you are now feeling this way, you should take a step back from the game anyway. On the upside you will have all week to do research on this! (Now, where do these paternal feelings come from...)

Between the occasional "what the kerb is he doing there" while watching youtube videos there are always some special moments that lift some big grey animal sitting on my eyes and brain and I will learn something: Camera in flight is centered on the COM, zoom in, align COM with docking port, rotate, thrust, dock - even with an RCS-tug at the far end of the station/ship/cargo part. I think true mastery begins at the point where you stop building big and just go ahead through the process of rendezvous and docking, calmly, without cringing at the mere thought of it.

As I see it, they are more precise than RCS to get that GSO satellite exact to the second in its orbital period - without pressing the thruster keys with minutely varying "force" back and forth. So, maybe they are also good for precise changes in trajectory during interstellar travel - if rails/timewarp would not kill any precision again anyway.

Yes, but it is optional. (cfg file after first start of KSP after installation) -
Stop discarded tanks hitting rocket?
KerbMav replied to SSSPutnik's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
When separating asparagus boosters during my gravity turn I try to roll the rocket in a position the tanks can mostly fall free downwards. Actually you could spin your rocket real fast to add force to the separation and sling the tanks away from you ... -
Successfully tested my little modding attempt at giving unmanned probes a little something more to do by adding an experiment entry to a mapping scanner part. Took some nice "pictures" (are about as real as the surface samples, simple confirmation text) from the Mun and sent them back home for scientific evaluation. As my long range probe did not have the long range dishes RT2 would need it to have (think first, launch ... ah, who am I kidding!), I quickly launched a ComSatProbe to "meet" half way and rescue the science opportunities - didnt quite work out ... Patched together a small Kethane test rig to be shot to the south pole - RT2 once again wants me to launch more satellites or at least time my flight better with the one satellite in polar orbit I have. Who ever tells me again, that modding is cheating and taking the easy route can ... Returning to Mun and Minmus soon to unlock more tech secrets!

Minmus is at 47Mm, Kerbins SOI is 84 159 286 m - So, the 50Mm and 90Mm dishes are sufficient. Note: When using numbers from the wiki: "The distances are given from the bodies center not surface (unlike ingame)" A problem I stumbled (and crashed) upon yesterday: If there is no low orbit satellite coverage everywhere at all times and the 500km omni-antenna is out of range, it is quite difficult to safely land something at Kerbins poles, as the 2.5Mm omni-antenna will break on reentry/during flight in the atmosphere. And hit me if I talk nonsense, but are the parts missing an "entryCost =" line in their part.cfg/MM.cfg files? -
How can I get a mod part to work in career mode?
KerbMav replied to Odo's topic in KSP1 Mods Discussions
I recommend you give Notepad++ a try. You can open several files simultanously, split the screen to see more than one at once - and sometimes the cfg files are formatted in a way Notepad will display the content as one long hard to read line, Notepad++ will display them nicely with indentet text and all. -
I usually drop them as soon as the pressure indicator at the top of the screen leaves the second brightest blue marking. Sometimes I keep carrying them around for roleplaying reasons - to protect the sensitive equipment until it reaches its destination.

In this case, Ricardo, just edit the old parts' part.cfg for them to be probe cores? -

I think I read "target active vessel" wrong - the dish will always target the vessel I am flying, so there will be no need to launch a dish for every ongoing mission/flying probe in the Kerbol system? In the settings does ConsumptionMultiplier let us fast and easy set the electricity consumption? Same as RangeMultiplier? What is MissionControlBody, MapFilter, ThrottleTimeWarp? -
I think this thread is worth a revival, as there are now three mods around. Until now I did not really care for this aspect/option of modding, but now I would like some insights form other players what they think are the pros and cons of the three?

Setting up a Geocycronous Orbit with Remote Tech
KerbMav replied to toomuchbrew's topic in KSP1 Mods Discussions
It seems to be more important to have an orbit of exactly 6h than to have AP and PE at exact values. -

Left to right - from memory - show uplink routing for active vessel, show dish arcs when pointing at bodies, show antenna/dish/both/none possible connections, setup target for dishes. You can do so in the observatory at KSC, select a vessel and click on the fourth button of the RT menu we just talked about.
