"Space Launch System" needs a better name!
Legendary Emu replied to SmallFatFetus's topic in Science & Spaceflight
We could call it something after Saturn's moons? It is kinda like Saturn 5, right? What about Iapetus/Japetus? Or maybe even (insert lame "SLS is a money furnace and spacex is literally the best thing ever" joke here.) -
Realistic Fantasy Adventuring Armour
Legendary Emu replied to Legendary Emu's topic in Science & Spaceflight
Meat shields is a terrible idea. What if, when clearing a dungeon, you discover that there is not only a necromancer in it, but the ever-so-feared Dwarf Necromancer? When your meat shield is overwhelmed by skeletons, and he cries out to you: "It was inevitable." You watch in horror as the necromancer catches a glimpse of his body, and with a shudder he rises again, along with his dismembered limbs and hairs. Only then will you realize that hiring meat shields isn't that great of an idea. -
Realistic Fantasy Adventuring Armour
Legendary Emu replied to Legendary Emu's topic in Science & Spaceflight
We have to remember that you can get really complicated and expensive armour, but there might not have an armour-smith at every village. Cause if you're going to have armour, it's going to get damaged one way or another. -
Realistic Fantasy Adventuring Armour
Legendary Emu replied to Legendary Emu's topic in Science & Spaceflight
Heh, I'm considering changing the title to Fantasy Gear instead of Armour. A broader term would be good for this thread. Well I didn't know that *gets flung into a gorge* Anyways. Everyone knows that while you are hastily reloading your musket a skeleton can stroll up and bonk you on the head (avoided if you are wearing a stylish wide brimmed hat). And while you're at it, be careful it doesn't misfire in the dank and musty halls of an old sunken fortress. -
Realistic Fantasy Adventuring Armour
Legendary Emu replied to Legendary Emu's topic in Science & Spaceflight
If we were going to go this far, we have to remember that a pope tried to ban the crossbow because it was basically cheating. The longbow for a long time was the only weapon capable of punching through knight armour, and require years and years of training. But then crossbows came to Europe and a peasant could pick up a crossbow and take out a knight with only a few weeks training. -
If you have ever played a fantasy RPG, you will most likely have worn armour in it. I noticed that a lot of the armour worn in these RPG's look very epic and intimidating (and in some cases, very skimpy) but probably isn't something you would want to wear while traveling or dungeon crawling. You also don't want something so light even a big rat could incapacitate you. Yeah, it looks cool, but how hot would it get in there? In the cramped and stuffy halls of an ancient tomb, how would you be able to react quickly to anything? Wouldn't those giant boots alert potential enemies of your presence? If there was an enemy too strong for you, or a particularly blunt trap, or a 5 foot high ledge (shoulda brought a stepladder), you couldn't do run away or do anything. You get the picture. And the higher level you go, the more impractical and bulky things get (female armour gets the opposite treatment) But we are not here to complain about that. If we were to make an RPG dungeon crawl as realistic as possible without taking out the danger (traps, dragons, level 5 Dire Weasels), what kind of attire would be appropriate for it? Also, if you were to be ambushed on the road to said dungeon by bandits, what would you like to be wearing? I thought at one point that a cuirass would be a fantastic adventuring armour-piece. DISCUSS!

New to the 'delta-V' concept
Legendary Emu replied to cephalo's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
This may be totally incorrect, but I usually think of Delta V as something similar to miles per gallon. How far you can go depends on the engine, or the fuel tank, or the weight of the car. Also the equation for calculating delta V is pretty fun to do by hand. First you find the mass of your rocket, write it down, then you take the propellant (liquid fuel) out of your first stage and write it down, then find the effective exhaust velocity (9.81 squared * the isp of the engine) and write it down. You divide the mass of your whole rocket, m0 by the mass of your rocket without the propellant (m1) and it would take too long to explain so just look up tsiolkovsky rocket equation. -
I think some Strauss would work.

What should the first Mars City/Colony be called?
Legendary Emu replied to Fr8monkey's topic in The Lounge
I vote for Providence or something. Maybe Olympus Base. -
Wow, it's just like the new Battlefront: It's done a bit differently, so it's the worst ever. /sarcasm

I was wandering around the internet and found this little video:

Can it drive around? Can I use it to blow up the administration building?

Tricky. A part of me thinks mechjeb is cheaty because it's the all knowing autopilot that can do everything for you. A part of me thinks not, because every respectable space program in the world has an autopilot that handles launches and reentries and everything. Then there's the other part that says just get kOS. Yeah, I think mechjeb is kind of cheaty.

A Simple Guide to Rocket Aerodynamics!
Legendary Emu replied to BagelRabbit's topic in KSP1 Tutorials
Thank you so much for writing this! Now I understand why every one of my attempts to put a spaceplane atop a rocket flips over mid flight. -
This reminds of those gyrocopter things. Great job!

[1.1.2] K2 Command Pod: Two Kerbal stock-alike pod (v1.4)
Legendary Emu replied to jfjohnny5's topic in KSP1 Mod Releases
This pod does NOT look good on the 1.25 meter decouplers. Maybe because the decouplers don't look nice. But anyways, this mod is fantastical! I always needed a two kerbal pod! -
Wow. This is fantastic. I can play piano. If you need that, then PM me or something.
