For the first one, it's due to the Toolbar mod. I'm guessing either the API changed or because of the new way GUIs are handled something got messed up. For the other two, it could be the same thing. If you have the toolbar mod installed then I'm 95% positive it's that. Two options: remove the toolbar mod or wait until I get an update out (probably tonight).

I never updated the post after the forum upgrade, so most of the formatting got lost, including the pictures. I'm fine now with nobody ever using it because I've got bigger projects to focus on

Kerbal Construction Time/StageRecovery Dev Thread
magico13 replied to magico13's topic in KSP1 Mod Development
Science isn't a different scene (neither is astronaut complex or the contracts one) so it'll stay open (in all versions of KCT and KSP). I can probably fix that by listening to the right events. I know at least the R&D one is already being listened to, so I can add the code in there and add listeners for the others. -
New pre-release available. It's a recompile for 1.1.2 and seems like it takes care of the new bug. Assuming no further issues with it, I'm going to make some additional tweaks and likely make the full release tomorrow evening. Edit: Tagged the wrong branch. Look for pre-3 a little lower down. The .zip is right but the code is not. I'm working on fixing it. Edit2: Fixed.

Kerbal Construction Time/StageRecovery Dev Thread
magico13 replied to magico13's topic in KSP1 Mod Development
I think a recompile was all that was necessary as it doesn't seem to be having any issues now. New pre-release up. I'll probably go ahead and do the full release tomorrow evening. -
Can confirm. I wasn't too worried about the version numbers during the pre-releases. Edit: I went ahead and upgraded it to a full release. I haven't gotten a chance to do all the changes I wanted to do, but not having it more openly available when it works just as well as the 1.0.5 release seemed a bit silly. I'll see about getting some additional bug fixes and such done this week(end).
-
Make sure you're using the latest pre-release for KCT and if you're running StageRecovery then definitely make sure you're on the latest one. It sounds a little like an out of sate StageRecovery. If you're on the latest versions then I'll need logs. Check toward the bottom of the first post for the proper bug report method and the log location.

[AAR] The Grand Tour - Voyage To The Planets
magico13 replied to czokletmuss's topic in KSP Fan Works
So, I've started a restoration project for this story so that it can be preserved and easily read by new readers. I've made pdfs of the prologue and first five chapters, and have included links to the original posts (thanks to @silentdragon) and the Wayback Machine threads (which retain the original formatting). Should the mods decide the pdfs aren't allowed, it will at least serve as a repository for those two sets of links. Here's a link to the thread in case you want to get involved. -
Many people may be familiar with the AAR "The Grand Tour - Voyage To The Planets" by @czokletmuss, a story about a mission to explore all of KSP's planets. I'm not a writer, so I can't possibly do it justice, but it is one of the key items that attached me to KSP. I was lucky enough to be around when it was still being written and it was the first thread I checked when coming to the forum, multiple times per day. Unfortunately, after the forum upgrade, much of the formatting and many of the links were lost. When there's over 60 chapters spread across 100 or so pages of comments it's difficult to follow the story when you can't use the links. Additionally, should the images ever be removed from imgur then much of the content of the story will be forever lost. So I propose an initiative to restore and preserve The Grand Tour for future readers. The method by which I suggest using to go about this is to use the Internet Archive: Wayback Machine to get the original formatting of the posts and put each chapter into a pdf (using Microsoft Word as a middle-man). There are 70 chapters including the prologue and epilogue, which I can handle by myself given enough time, but crowdsourcing would make it much faster. If you wish to get involved, read the information below about how to do the restoration and post a comment with the chapters you'd like to restore. Note that this thread is for discussion of the restoration project, any discussion of the story itself should occur in the original thread. Chapter List Here is the list of chapters with links to their original posts, the old forum page on the Wayback Machine, and the pdf file for the restored chapter. Credit for finding the current links goes to @silentdragon If a link is missing, that means the chapter hasn't been restored yet. It is important that the pdfs remain consistent throughout. This procedure uses Microsoft Word to compile the pdf. I have performed these steps on Word for Mac 2011 and Word for Windows 2010. Things might be different for the version of Word you are using. 0. Post a comment with the chapters you want to work on. I'd suggest keeping it to batches of 5 or less. Starting from this page in the Wayback Machine you should be able to use the links to get to any required chapter. You may have to play around with the archive dates and manually changing page numbers in the url to actually access the pages, if they're archived. Most, if not all, pages with a chapter should be archived. If you find one that isn't archived please let us know! Navigate to the chapter, then select all of the text and images from the chapter (either use your mouse to select it all, or select the first word, scroll to the end of the chapter, then hold shift and click the end of the last word). Copy this to the clipboard with CTRL-C and open a new Word document. Paste the copied data into the Word document. It may take a while as it is downloading the images (it downloads them from the Wayback Machine, not from imgur, if we can find an easy way to get them from imgur instead it would be preferred). Keep track of the URL required to access the page with the chapter in it (URLS to the precise point in the page are not needed, just the URL to the page is fine). With the chapter copied into Word we must format it correctly. Use the narrow margins preset of 0.5 inch margins on all sides (as the story is image heavy, this allows for larger images). Then resize each image to exactly 7.5 inches in width, with the aspect ratio locked. You can easily do this by selecting the image, then going to the Picture Format tab and finding the size options (generally toward the right). On Windows you can resize images quickly by resizing one, then selecting the next and pressing F4. Non-screenshot images may not need resized, or may need custom sizing. Refer to the chapter to approximate if needed. There is a faint background color around the text due to shading. Unfortunately this is a pain to remove. On Word for Mac 2011 you can select all of the text with CMD-A, then find the shading options in one of the file menus (I will update when I'm on a mac again). Open the dialog and choose "no color" and apply it to "paragraph", then do that same process again but apply it to "text". This should remove the shading from all text and images, but you can check by changing the page color to black. On Word 2010 for Windows it's slightly more complicated. Again highlight all text, then find the "paint bucket" icon in the Paragraph area of the Home tab. Select the small arrow to the right and choose "No Color". This removes shading just from the images, not the text. You must manually highlight each paragraph and activate the "paint bucket". To ensure that you catch all of the shading, go to Page Layout and set the Page Color to black. Just remember to set it back to "No Color" when finished. Save the Word document as a .docx file. This will allow for easy editing in the future if needed. Then, save the file again as a pdf. The filename should be "CHAPTER X", where X is the chapter number. Upload the .docx file and .pdf to a file sharing site (google drive, dropbox, etc). Post a comment or edit your last post if there haven't been new replies with the links to the .docx, .pdf, and the chapter in the Wayback Machine. I will copy them to the Drive folder that everything is being stored in and will add the links to the OP. Formatting requirements: 0.5 inch margins on all sides Verdana font, size 10 for text and 24 bold for title Images 7.5 inches wide, 4.22 inches tall (lock the aspect ratio, then set the width) Do NOT correct spelling or other textual mistakes Do fix formatting errors (non-closed italic/bold tags, missing bold when BERTY is speaking) It is ok to add a few blank lines to improve the location of text with respect to images or page breaks For the mods: I'm not totally sure about whether this is allowed. I've sent a PM to @czokletmuss asking permission and letting him know about this, but he's been offline for a long while and might not see it. If you decide this isn't ok, please remove the links to the pdfs but keep the links to the original posts and the Wayback Machine posts since only the pdfs would violate any rules. Even just finding all the correct Wayback Machine posts is worthwhile since they contain the correct formatting and working images.

Did you accidentally recover it to the VAB instead of the SPH? Looking at the code, it does appear as if it uses the VAB rates only (all of them combined). Good catch. I'll get that fixed. Btw, the reconditioning formula controls recovery. Recovery is the same as rollout in terms of BP. Unfortunately that's the formula with the most complicated setup since 4 formulas are contained in the one (rollout, rollback, reconditioning, and recovery).

Just to help me understand, you select a tech node to research and it begins researching, then you try to select the next node that depends on the one currently being researched but you're unable to begin research on it? Or are you trying to "research" a node that is already in progress? Pictures might help clear up any confusion.

[AAR] The Grand Tour - Voyage To The Planets
magico13 replied to czokletmuss's topic in KSP Fan Works
The "wayback machine" or internet archive, or whatever you want to call it has up to chapter 31: https://web.archive.org/web/20130930065150/http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/24560-AAR-The-Grand-Tour-Voyage-To-The-Planets?p=661593&viewfull=1#post661593 Including Chapter 8, which is (apparently) mislabelled as Chapter 9: https://web.archive.org/web/20130930015922/http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/24560-AAR-The-Grand-Tour-Voyage-To-The-Planets/page12?p=546260&viewfull=1 Chapter 9 is indeed a separate chapter as well (and is toward the bottom of the page for what you have listed as chapter 9 that is actually chapter 8): https://web.archive.org/web/20131003194229/http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/24560-AAR-The-Grand-Tour-Voyage-To-The-Planets/page13 Ooooo, with some slight trickery I've been able to find up to Chapter 60 at least. I might see about grabbing screencaps and organizing them into an imgur album or pdf. That'd be easier as a group effort though. Yeah, I'm pretty sure you can find all of the chapters in their original formatting on there (by manually entering page numbers) -
Does it properly split each modlet into separate mods and do Sensible Screenshot and Dated QuickSaves properly require MagiCore? I'm going to put them on SpaceDock when I do the full release, but I can't do that until I finalize the MagiCore update, which I can't do until I test if statements, which I can't do until I actually get a chance to sit down and take a look at things When it goes on SpaceDock they'll use the existing netkan files that I wrote/that were autogenerated.

Like the program I made over two years ago that does just that It was my first contribution to the forum. I use it non-stop since I wrote it, but nobody ever was interested in it.

I have a few mods that may help. For transferring over vessels and flags I have Ship Save Splicer which lets you back up vessels and load them in new saves. It's only for 1.0.5 right now (but if you're jumping between versions then you have to use the 1.0.5 version at some point) but I can get it working with 1.1 pretty quickly probably. It even supports transferring crew and their experience. For reducing the grind and getting back to where you were I have Tree Toppler. It lets you unlock the tech tree for free, in whole or in part, even without upgrading the R&D center. If you want only specific tech nodes then there are a few restrictions with what you can unlock (the max science limit per R&D level still applies then, but it doesn't if you unlock the whole tree). I also recommend opening the debug menu with Alt-F12, then holding Alt for a few seconds until the "give funds" and "give science" buttons appear to give yourself some funds or science to help you get started. Alternatively, just increase the starting science and funds when you make the save. Both of those mods can be acquired from my Modlet thread.
-
I'm not sure that StageRecovery would kick in for a booster that is deleted because of a scene change. It's especially difficult to catch that because all vessels are "deleted" on scene changes (the event that StageRecovery listens for is called on every vessel during scene changes) and it would be tricky to tell the situations apart. In those cases you'd just have to wait for the booster to land on its own or go out of physics range and get deleted due to that.

My bachelor's is in physics and my master's is in materials science. But the job I have lined up is in software development. Who knows what will happen in 5-10 years I enjoy the development side of simulations more than the actual physics side of it, but the physics is still interesting. My knowledge is rather specific to my projects, so if you did have questions I'm not sure I could answer them, but feel free to ask them anyway. I might be able to answer or point you towards some other resources.
-
If you are using StageRecovery as well, make sure you are on the latest pre-release. Some people reported the same issue but updating to the latest versions of the pre-releases fixed it. KCT and KRASH don't actually talk to each other, so what you're seeing is probably a KRASH bug. KCT does do weird things though, so there's a chance it's KCT induced. I'm still on the fence about whether I like pay as you go more than pay upfront. I actually run simulations (of polymers) as my research for graduate school (master's thesis submitted and accepted for those of you following along ), and while I haven't had to use time on a supercomputer (thankfully, it's a bit of a PITA) I do have some idea of how that process works. Essentially you buy time up-front and then submit your jobs which uses up x amount of time (if you submit 1000 [single threaded] jobs and they take 24 hours to run, you use up 24000 core hours of time). I know of people who ran a simulation using up millions of core hours of time only to find out afterward that they messed up their initial conditions and simulated absolutely nothing of interest (I believe they were simulating something travelling through a carbon nanotube, but the thing fell out of the end of the tube right away and just floated around outside of it). So in some sense I like the idea of "I pay for this much time and if I mess up it's my fault" because that's closer to how it actually works. You often can check after some time to make sure things are making sense and cancel them early if they aren't, which is partly accounted for by letting you revert to launch as many times as you want. It doesn't really matter that much though, cause I don't control how KRASH's simulations work To remove the "simulate" button just go into the KCT settings and disable simulations. That'll be the default when I get around to updating the Presets. That's the next thing on my list.
-
If possible use KRASH so it can get more testing and we can figure out if anything really needs changed in either mod to make them play nicely together. Using the KCT simulations is fine as well, but they might not be around in future updates so don't rely on them too much. Honestly I haven't really gotten to play much since 1.0.4 so I haven't tested KRASH myself, so I'm not sure how well they work together. Nobody has said anything that makes me think they don't play nicely together though, in fact most comments I've seen seem to like the split.
-
@carlorizzante Are you using the latest pre-release? If not then I suggest trying it out as it might fix any problems you're seeing. If you're still having issues then I'll likely need the log file to have any clue. Assuming you're running Windows the log file will be KSP_Data/output_log.txt if you're using 32 bit or KSP_x64_Data/output_log.txt if you're using 64 bit. Just upload it to Dropbox or a similar site and then post here (or send a PM) with the sharing link.
