Mesklin replied to tsunam1's topic in KSP1 The Spacecraft Exchange
Station in shell was expanded - science module added. Now station has name: Babylon 6. Also station now has escape pod for all 12 crew members. -
Exceptionally cheap and fast plane "Snowball": RAPIER and hypersonic cruising at 25 km of altitiude. 6 passengers and one pilot, 17 minutes from takeoff to landing. Points - 28.8 (I spent 216 units of for 6 kerbals) P.S. Imgur album was updated with flight back to KSC

The Ultimate Jool 5 Challenge - 1.0 to 1.3
Mesklin replied to sdj64's topic in KSP1 Challenges & Mission ideas
Same as you - pair of radial ram intake. Your entry simply incredible, 8.6t ?!, perfect craft and perfect piloting. About Tylo lander, I am thinking about very similar craft, but I could not decide problem with crashes when detaching forward tank with working engine. Simply off engine for short time, applause. -
The Ultimate Jool 5 Challenge - 1.0 to 1.3
Mesklin replied to sdj64's topic in KSP1 Challenges & Mission ideas
And, finally, my entry in low mass category (deep reworking my one of my entry for version 1.0.5): 1. Start mass: 10.775t 2. Horizontal takeoff from Kerbin on one RAPIER and vertical landing to Kerbin without any devices - in suit 3. Economical Kerbin-Laythe trajectory: I spent ~1250 m/s dV (Eve-Kerbin-Kerbin flybys). One ion engine for all space maneuvers. 3. Winged Laythe lander with ion scooter as second stage, same ion scooter for Pol and Bop 4. 2-staged Tylo lander without probe and SAS - only chair, based on 48-7S "Spark" engine. Lander mass: 1.558t with pilot 5. Single staged Laythe lander (2 LV-1R "Spider" engines). Lander mass: 0.524t with pilot 6. Mods used: BetterBurnTime, BetterTimeWarp, HistorianExpanded, IndicatorLights, MechJeb, Kerbal Alarm Clock, KER, Precise Node, Tajectories. 7. Tricks: a) antenna at the nose of craft works like very good heat shield, with it small detail I could reach 1500+ m/s not so high in atmosphere. b) fairings are really heavy thing, I tried to make craft's covered part with minimal length and diameter. Several videos: Kerbin ascent: https://youtu.be/gF9CTEtJLg0 Laythe ascent: https://youtu.be/ZmfN_s_1hwk Tylo landing and ascent: https://youtu.be/nS64aVCzzRI -
The Ultimate Jool 5 Challenge - 1.0 to 1.3
Mesklin replied to sdj64's topic in KSP1 Challenges & Mission ideas
I am a little busy right now (business trip is ongoing), I hope I finished my entry in the nearest holidays (only trip to home left with 1400+ m/s of dV on board) -
The Ultimate Jool 5 Challenge - 1.0 to 1.3
Mesklin replied to sdj64's topic in KSP1 Challenges & Mission ideas
Not so far in my second attempt, I finished second Kerbin flyby - my ship hit Jool SOI and now time to hit Tylo SOI by the right way. In my first try I successfully landed on Laythe (after my first "super" flyby's travel) and then founded very bad thing: my ion bike does not have enough batteries for achieve Laythe orbit (arrgh ). -
The Ultimate Jool 5 Challenge - 1.0 to 1.3
Mesklin replied to sdj64's topic in KSP1 Challenges & Mission ideas
I am pretty sure you are using one ion engine, only one question: what is start weight of your ship? I am also prepared ship with less then 11t, between us, it looks like Jool obsession. -
What about rounded or/and diffuse edges for RECTANGLE object, It should be simple in realization.
-
36 seconds Vector engine is a king with magic of antenna. Antenna, installed on the top of nose cone is working as a very good heat defender.
-
Middle tech SSTO "Swift": up to 8t to LKO or one VIP passenger (2 regular tourists) to Minmus and back.

Aerospace military system "Spiral" (replica)
Mesklin replied to Mesklin's topic in KSP1 The Spacecraft Exchange
This hyper-sonic plane design was tested in wind-tunnel in Central Aerohydrodynamic Institute (TsAGI) and it works good on project speed 4...6M. Some additional details about plane you can find here. -
Let me introduce my new video: replica of well-known soviet space system: "Spiral" (partial reusable military reconnaissance / interceptor spaceplane). You can see details here. Download link: https://kerbalx.herokuapp.com/Mesklin/Spiral

RSS Moon Landing using stock parts
Mesklin replied to joshudson's topic in KSP1 Challenges & Mission ideas
Jeb's level Moon round-trip (big thanks to maccollo, he is showing a lot of small useful tricks in his videos): classical chemical rocket (1390t on launchpad, 3 stages, 1.9% of payload fraction) direct landing to Moon powered by one LV-N engine (Moon ship has ~27t after detaching from rocket) no space debris, but after all on Earth orbit we are having nuclear tug for feature flights -
My new exercise in SSTO building (inspired by this thread) - "Chock SSTO". Inner cargo bay with cargo ramp in the front Up to 30t to 80x80 km orbit Start mass 290t (payload ratio 10.5%), cost 144 620$ Fuel cost 17 938$ (588 $ per payload tonne)

Mesklin replied to Ericwi's topic in KSP1 Challenges & Mission ideas
Here is my entry: 1. Start mass - 2.739t 2. No wings, no parachutes, only iron kerbals allowed 3. Jeb's helmet used as shock cone for intake Craft link: http://kerbalx.com/Mesklin/Mun-Fluff -
Mun and back as light as you can
Mesklin replied to Ericwi's topic in KSP1 Challenges & Mission ideas
I prepared craft with mass in 3.296 t, but Nefrums was first with very stylish and light flying machine. OK, time to return to drawing-board -
[1.8.x] KerboKatz - SmallUtilities - 18.10.2019
Mesklin replied to SpaceTiger's topic in KSP1 Mod Releases
One small idea: will be great to have possibilities to change color of markers in MAP mode, like flags, kerbonauts, crafts markers. It is very hard to find something in map mode on planets with clouds if you use EVE plugin. -

Russian aerospace system "Spiral", should be ready after New Year -
Let me introduce workhorse of kerbal space program - passenger space plane "Bor". It is almost perfect solution for transporting crew/tourists to Kerbin orbit and back, after refueling you can simply reach Mun/Minmus orbit or surface. Comfortable in flight, cheap, fast and compact, you can order this piece of engineering art in our company "Blue "Whale for only 21 977 kerbucks (flight cost is only 5444 kerbucks). Brief stats: Mass on launchpad / empty craft: 33t / 4.5t Details on launchpad / in space plane: 36 / 27 dV on orbit 100x100 km / fully fueled: 600+ / 2164 m/s Passengers/crew: up to 4 (can flight in full automatic mode) Rocket powered ascent / unpowered descent without parachutes (water landing without damages also possibly) Take craft for test flights you can here: http://kerbalx.com/Mesklin/Bor-Shuttle

Eve Space Program Challenge
Mesklin replied to Bubbadevlin's topic in KSP1 Challenges & Mission ideas
It is really big discount from dropping engines, first model with 5 vectors in the middle stage had weight ~340t -
Eve Space Program Challenge
Mesklin replied to Bubbadevlin's topic in KSP1 Challenges & Mission ideas
My entry for Jebedian level: 277.5 t of start mass from Eve; Second (central) stage of Eve launcher has 3 dropping engines from total 5 for decreasing launcher mass; Only "Vectors" used for Eve ascent; Combined LV-N and ion powered craft (for simplifying departure maneuver); Landing to Kerbin and Mun in command chair; Ion lander for Mun and Minmus (second stage for Kerbin too). Good challenge, I enjoyed all time what spent for this challenge! -
