  1. The only reason I didn't buy KSP before v. 0.18 is because I thought that a game with little green alien men couldn't be very good. I bought it on sale on recommendation of an acquaintance who runs a spaceflight related site.
  2. I've enjoyed all of those you've mentioned. And Journey to the Far Side of the Sun (a Gerry Anderson production with Roy Thinnes, of "The Invaders" TV series fame) was thought provoking, at a time when we had less exact knowledge of our solar system than we do now.
  3. No. And I don't know anyone who has indicated that they have met such a person. For those reasons, it follows that I hold suspect the "yes" poll responses (which at the moment outnumber the "no" responses ['lookie here, Billy Bob said "yes" just for laughs']) in this thread. I consider the notion that many people believe that we were "hoaxed" to be nothing more than an "urban legend", so to speak. If any of you have actually met a person who really thinks we were hoaxed, I consider you a rarity.
  4. 1980's and 1990's as vintage? Uh, sure. Here are trailers of movies often considered among the "top ten" of their decades: (Yeah, missed ninety-nine by that much.) (1997) (1989) (1971) (1968) (1956)That's good for the moment.
  5. I believe this is more a problem with Unity than it is with Squad. In KSP, Squad deals with this as best it can by making the selected command pod (or Kerbal if on EVA) the "center of the universe", for the purposes of calculations; if I understand correctly.
  6. The older ones may be playlists, the newer ones trailers; one per decade, since science fiction series (or serials) were made: Flash Gordon Mysterious Doctor Satan Men into Space (the original and new series; the audio for the new have an annoying "helium" air about them, so to speak)U. F. O.
  7. This has happened to me a few times. Some other times I've used ship RCS to de-orbit.
  8. For interplanetary burns, you might try doing shorter burns; setting up new burns with the maneuver nodes in between those burns. Also, as others have pointed out, using multiple engines helps. I usually use 3 LV-Ns in tandem.
  9. Just some trivia: perhaps the poll is skewed. The people participating in the poll are some fraction of the registered forum members; many members of either gender might feel no reason to respond to the poll, or probably don't even know it exists. We don't know the gender ratio of non registered forum guests or of those KSP players who don't visit the forum. While one could assume that the forum ratio would extend beyond the forum itself, we simply would not know with certainty. The net result is that the percentage of woman/ girl KSP players might be at, or more, or less than the approximate 7.5% here at the forum. Any families playing KSP may imply a higher percentage than the 7.5% figure.
  10. Future debates? Do you mean that you are on a debate team, or do you mean "future arguments" with family or neighbors or friends or classmates or coworkers or just anonymously online? If its the former, an image will always be secondary to your debate skills. If its the latter, arguing will never prove anything. However, people who discuss things in earnest will be willing to listen (and this must be true for people who have opposite points of view too). This implies a respect for each other's viewpoints also. Unless a discussion environment possesses both showing respect and being willing to listen to the opposite point of view, there will be no teaching or proving anything to anyone, regardless of point of view. However, since you are sharing a resource which you find useful and are seeking yet another more complete one, I prefer this reference page at Wikipedia; its a small but comprehensive collection of graphs and charts. It appears to be occasionally updated also, thus it tends to be fairly current. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Geologic_time_scale Since our knowledge of past life on Earth is mostly due to what we learn from geological strata and fossils, referring to a geologic time scale seems to be a proper course. I hope you'll find it useful.
  11. Cupcake..., Ah remove my gauntlet, and ah draw a line in ze sand with my foot. Hmmm, something does not seem right.
  12. No shame in "tooting your own horn" (pun intended); really though, nothing wrong with sharing your music here!
  13. This thread has some fitting tunes: http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/103158-Music-for-Ksp
  14. Actually a "challenge" to land and return from Venus' surface is part of the subject of "Venus" by Ben Bova. Its a good read.
  15. I really enjoy KSP and I really like Squad (collectively and individually) and the devs have a track record of generally succeeding with their update goals. However, with so many new features and tweaks, I feel like the next update with all the announced changes ought to be beta 0.95-ish. This would allow all potential bugs and balance issues to be addressed prior to an actual version 1.0. I'm in no hurry to reach 1.0 if it will ensure that prior releases squash any major bugs and allows proper tweaking (and new parts which "feel" as if they belong in the game). Its Squad's decision on this, but I urge the devs and testers to consider releasing at least one incremental step before releasing version 1.0.
  16. I agree that bimodal NTRs are the way of the future ... for interplanetary travel (in real life, hopefully). Back to ion engines; another possible engine to pair them with is the aerospike; depending on the mission.
  17. I've used ion engines on rovers and boats and I've had some success with planes. They certainly fill certain niches; try experimenting with them.
  18. Just about any space travel science fiction series or movie should work for you who watch something else while playing KSP. When I play the game, I don't watch any movies or shows. Its a matter of preference, I suppose.
  19. Mars needs more mass. That's why its air is so rarefied; it can't hang onto the air it has (or had).
  20. Now its up to Squad to release an update with the Wizz Engine! Perhaps this will be an incentive to send crewed missions to space (for the fuel, etc.)!
  21. Give it a try: http://bruno-simon.com/lab/procedural-planet/
