Nice touch that you turned the camera so we couldn't see the craft on the LaunchPad.

What would be the easiest way to OBLITERATE THE ENTIRE PLANET?
NFUN replied to Kerbface's topic in Science & Spaceflight
Don't know if this has been posted, but I know it hasn't in the new section. http://qntm.org/destroy -
What is the most dangerous chemical that you know about
NFUN replied to Ethanadams's topic in Science & Spaceflight
About half of these examples were from Things I Won't Work With, but only one person bothered to cite it. Come on, just say 'Anything on this site' and be done with it. Don't seemingly pull quotes from the Aether! -
Banned for trying to stagnate the glorious empire of Pedantry.

-15 Since when was the min 5 characters and not 10?

Just because a genre wasn't invented by a work doesn't mean that work didn't spawn descendents. Sherlock Holmes wasn't the first detective story, but it was the first super popular one. There were platforming games before Mario, and tragedies before Shakespeare. Do you know of them?

Stupid school project - Stopping the moons velocity
NFUN replied to Myggen's topic in Science & Spaceflight
Thrust is Isp times 9.8 (times fuel flow, but don't worry about that). That is probably what Scott was referring to. -
-1 No

The question is too vague to be useful. Of course eventually we'd want a Pluto lander, but not for the near future. Like 5thHorseman said, I'd prefer many other missions first, so I said no to the poll, but why wouldn't we want a lander once we could do it cheaply without sacrificing other missions?

If the original isn't destroyed, people won't have the illusion that they've been sent somewhere else, or at least the original bodies won't. Most people probably wouldn't see the point in sending a clone of themselves somewhere else, and would be envious of the clone if they did. If only one version of a person exists at a time, the body will think that it is the original, and people would be more likely to actually use the technology. In addition, people would be more apt to think of this discussion with a copy of them running around, and realize that sending a clone or teleporting themselves are essentially homologous actions. Any 'duplicate the original' companies would not get much business as patrons would try to minimize cognitive dissonance by ignoring them. Nobody likes dealing with existential crises.

Don't open this can of worms again... it never ends well.

Squad could do it the way KMP/DMP did/does it, where each player would get their own time zone, and would be unable to interact with other players who aren't synced up with them. However, this method has some problems, like with players in the past interacting with unmanned vessels changing their state in the future (DMP just doesn't allow people to do this), and I believe Squad has stated they don't plan to do it this way. And Clockwork13, with the amount of practice it takes to be able to reliably rendezvous with vessels and the initial learning curve of the game, I doubt many people would bother to troll KSP multiplayer. The types of people who get their kicks from sabotaging other people pointlessly probably don't overlap much with the type of person who plays KSP.

Don't forget that Nova left the team, so some of his brainchildren were abandoned (GP2, for example).
-
"A very long time"? I'd say by 2017 KSP will have official multiplayer, probably earlier. Prior to 1.0, Squad's main goals were the implementation of resources, Unity 5 and multiplayer. One of these objectives has been filled, and the U5 update is coming out in a month or two. After U5, Squad will hopefully realize a patch of bugfixes, assuming most bugs haven't been patched in 1.1, and then what else would they do? The game is pretty fleshed out, and though it could use some polish, Squad generally prefers to realize new features before finishing old ones. Multiplayer will probably be added in version 1.3 or 1.4.

Physics breaking, twice observed, says article
NFUN replied to PB666's topic in Science & Spaceflight
And that's definitely physics breaking rather than a flaw in our models. You've been getting a bit click-batey PB666. (And so is the source) -
Uhhh... never! Your assistant never posted on your account, and would never tell us not to tell you he was posting on your account, especially not while laughing at how puny the largest rockets other people have built are.

Watching interactive Twitch streams where you can ask questions might help you more than videos (such as DasValdez), and maybe even guides will help. A good mod to get is Kerbal Engineer, which can tell you various attributes about your craft (though you might need something to teach you what these numbers mean). And, of course, practice a lot. Eventually on your own you'll make it to space and then orbit, but even with help it takes time. Just remember, to orbit, you need to go sideways

I made poll results private for this very reason
-
You're not really present at all. The last time you posted was from your assistant. But who cares, congrats!
-
The lack of capitals in the title would drive me insane, so I decided to take the initiative and post this poll instead. I didn't manipulate the values much More Boosters intentionally, by the way. It's a bit more clear this way, easier to read at a glance.

Dark Giant may be lurking beyond pluto's orbit
NFUN replied to PB666's topic in Science & Spaceflight
The fact that it is just out of reach of our most sensitive telescopes is proof of its nefarious intents! -
Yeah, the electromagnetism traits are backwards, not different (though there's probably symmetry breaking somewhere), and since the strong force is the same (though colors are different), anti-particles can make atoms too.
-
Antimatter is not the opposite of matter. It has the opposite EM traits as regular matter and different strong force colors, as well as some particle properties such as spin, but in general it behaves like normal matter, and almost certainly has the same gravity. And yeah, dark matter isn't the opposite of normal matter, it is just a name for several theories that try to reconcile disparities from nature and our models, most notably that galaxies spin fast enough to be dispersed by centripetal force according to old theories. You are right that only a couple dark matter theories involve regular matter, the theory of Modified Newtonian Dynamics does not.
