  1. How I did it: Stick a Cubic Octagonal Strut (the smallest and rectangular open-frame strut) to the side of your rocket. Stick one of the small probe-size decouplers to it, and then either some part of your rover, or another Cubic Octagonal Strut to which you then attach your rover. Make sure that the decoupler is in the proper place in your staging order - I recommend giving it a stage by itself, and even then, just to be sure, firing it manually with a right-click when it's time to detach your rover. You might also want to test that the separation works properly with a cut-down version of your spacecraft - get rid of the booster(s) and just have your lander, or whatever will stand up on the pad.
  2. Someone needs to post the Kerbal-in-centrifuge gif in this thread.
  3. Just now, due to a mistake in staging order, I managed to jettison my mini-rover on the way to the Mun. Thank Jeb for quicksaves...
  4. Went to the Space Port for something else and there was your excellent Double Nerva, something I didn't know I needed until I saw it! Thanks!
  5. Neither did Silisko's creations, at the time that he was recruited. However, the current look of the stock parts is, IMO, almost entirely his. His style became the new standard.
  6. No, and googling the term doesn't turn up anything that looks relevant. But then, that may be because my art is writing. On that note, looking at your post, I'm tempted to make a similarly catty remark about how English grammar isn't exactly your forte.
  7. "Oh no! We can't have mod(der)s getting too good or too popular, because then their stuff will become stock and no one will ever use it!" ... seriously?

  9. paleorob: exactly. if they knew what they were doing wrong, they could (perhaps) fix it. they don't even know that, so they just sit there and flail in frustration. Not much of my own advice to add to this thread, just sympathy: it took me a while to learn to match orbits and dock, and even now, I'm probably clumsier at it than some.
  10. In my honest experience: The person who did it; Maybe... ten people, at most, if you post/brag about it. That's it. No one else cares. No one. EDIT: In fairness, and full disclosure, that's also about the same number of people who I expect to read, think about, and/or care about this post. But that's enough for me. With very few exceptions, we all think about ourselves, our successes, our failures, etc etc far more than anyone else thinks about us. We all walk around looking at the mirrors we wear and fretting that everyone else will see what we see there, hardly ever looking up to notice that no one is looking at us but at their own mirror.
  11. I've been here since 0.8. I'm along for the ride, wherever it goes and however long it takes.
  12. The only thing keeping me from using your creations at this point is that I'm stubbornly committed to my own. u_u
  13. I gotta admit, I've been very tempted to use some variation of this:
  14. Viking is the first space mission I actually remember. You've done an amazing job replicating it (and all the others in this thread).
  15. Sweet! The relief is just a little high on Duna, though, don't you think?
  16. Yeah, this pretty much confirms what I thought - despite what the OP seems to think, you can't minimize drag (under the current, very simple model), you can only overcome it, with brute force.
  17. The demonstrated capability of Kerbin's atmosphere to act as a Magic Speed Brake does complicate matters somewhat. May I politely suggest that you shift the venue to the Mun?
  18. Epic series, great cinematography, and I think you've even got more or less the same mission plan to Duna as me. (Crew transfer vehicle and lander in two separate launches.) I'm also impressed that you seem to be conducting this like, well, a real space program, probe series and all. Definitely going to be following you from now on. EDIT: What's the escape tower mod you're using there, with the smaller parachute that goes under it?
