The Elcano Challenge : Ground-based circumnavigation
Starwhip replied to Fengist's topic in KSP1 Challenges & Mission ideas
Oh, bah. Mine can go *up* the mountain... down? I don't know. It weighs 63 tons and only half the wheels have their brakes enabled... -
The Elcano Challenge : Ground-based circumnavigation
Starwhip replied to Fengist's topic in KSP1 Challenges & Mission ideas
I've determined the death speed on water: ~84 m/s Don't go any faster than about 81 and you'll be golden. Oh, and a note: Refueling on water is going to be hard. I'm not planning on it. Two and a half hours should get me to some nearby landmass, right? EDIT: Update: At 7 20' 46" South. (~75 km from KSC, not counting curvature) -
The Elcano Challenge : Ground-based circumnavigation

Water is easier than land... though less exciting. I'm doing 270.6 Km/h in this thing right now. -
The Elcano Challenge : Ground-based circumnavigation

Update: CRN-01A Spirion is on its way to Kerbin's South Pole. I do love this thing. -
The Elcano Challenge : Ground-based circumnavigation
Starwhip replied to Fengist's topic in KSP1 Challenges & Mission ideas
Update: the Kraken is upset with me. It just fell apart when I stopped. Drat. Then I tried it on the water, it works great. I'll start over again. Why not, let's head to the South Pole! -
I'm on the Elcano as well... taking the scenic route. Dunno if this is a bad plan, we'll find out!
-
What, did I scare everyone out of the "open" category? Unlimited seems fun. If you've got great aim you can easily fling something into Kerbin's SOI... I don't know if you could get any kind of low periapsis. How about a 2-stage flinger? Big one flings the small one out of Minmus SOI, then small one flings the "rover" into a Kerbin capture.

The Elcano Challenge : Ground-based circumnavigation
Starwhip replied to Fengist's topic in KSP1 Challenges & Mission ideas
It begins! I'll be hitting as many Easter Eggs on the way as possible... I'm hoping to see the North Pole [DATA EXPUNGED]! EDIT: Is it acceptable to go on the "scenic route?" I.E. not directly around the planet, but meandering back and forth looking at points of interest? It would still be recognizable as a ring around the planet, though. -
Welcome to the mission log of the CRN-07A Dawn Racer, and its trek around Kerbin's globe. Rumored to be one of the fastest vehicles in the running, though farther behind than most, the Dawn Racer will not be taking a direct route around the globe. Rather, it will go wherever I see the most interesting feature. I am not the only competitor, however. Be sure to check out the other's submissions as well! If you want to download a basic version of the Dawn Racer, you can go here: CRN-07 Dawn Racer release thread The stats are outdated now, but it can still go on land, in air, and through the seas, just not as fast. The Elcano Challenge : Ground-based circumnavigation
Starwhip replied to Fengist's topic in KSP1 Challenges & Mission ideas
Right, the base of the final rover is done. Amphibious capabilities. Now to make it better. 80 m/s of tested land speed 60 m/s of tested water speed May have pushed it a bit too fast... -
Wow, that hits the ground *fast*...

Should I scrub my massive Jool mission because of 1.0?
Starwhip replied to Brainlord Mesomorph's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Or you can put it to the side and play with 1.0, then go back to it when you're ready. -
How Close are YOU to Your Next Reputation Rank?
Starwhip replied to michaelsteele3's topic in Kerbal Network

Quick, download everything! I doubt that any of the really big mods will ever become paid. If that happens, I for one will simply stop updating the mod. Or stop using it entirely.

Attention all! Forum user ghostbuzzer7 and I are collaborating on a video of sorts for KSP Version 1.0, and we need your screenshots! Anything that gives a sense of adventure, or discovery, or the journey you've had in KSP is what we're looking for. We hope to get this done before 1.0 hits the ground, so if you're interested, I'd suggest submitting something here ASAP. Video will be posted here upon completion. EDIT: Video Complete! Thanks to all who submitted their images, and enjoy!

After a shorter than anticipated break, I can say that I'm (more or less) back up on the forum. Soon enough, I'll get back to the Renderfarm, hopefully keep it going for a long while. A few things I'm working on, or planning on working on shortly: KSP Parody of "I've Gotta Feeling", Soon We'll Be Leaving, in collaboration with UpsilonAerospace. This'll be a fun little parody, hope to show it off soon! 1.0 Tribute with ghostbuzzer7. More to come on that. A KSP animation. Collaborating with esinohio. All of these were rendered in Blender3D.Plus a few more things on the back burner that might flourish when these are out of the way. Should be fun, stay tuned!
