  1. The original post has been updated with new DL link and pictures! The larger cargo canister is still WIP, so a subassembly will have to do for now Eh, I wanted the name to be optimistic. "Lightbringer" doesn't roll off the tongue quite as easily as in Latin unless you're Stannis Baratheon, so I went with that. BTW, "Rosomah" means Wolverine in most slavic languages. Are you being sarcastic? I honestly can't tell
  2. You don't have to. The carrier is perfectly capable of putting itself into orbit before detaching its payload
  3. I'd be honoured! Anyway, I'm having slight problems. 2.5m and about 6 tons of cargo is about the upper limit without a redesign. I need more lift!
  4. Good idea, 3x should work well enough! They are at an angle to avoid the fairing.
  5. Well, apart from some paper and printer ink, you've got nothing to lose
  6. Rune, it looks really good How did you manage to give the capsule lift? Hidden control surfaces? The crewed version has fuel for 850 m/s, the uncrewed one 1060 m/s with an empty bay and 700 m/s with 4.5 tons of cargo. Not enough for missions to the Mun or further beyond unless the shuttle bay is packed with additional fuel. I managed to land it on Minmus that way, but of course this is a rather pointless endeavour when unable to carry cargo. Torque problems aren't that huge to be honest, at least until the payload is decoupled. But by then you're in orbit already and can take your time with 1/3 throttle or so. Here's a WIP shot of an expendable upper stage. It should, in theory, be optimised for putting stuff on interplanetary trajectories while providing it with electricity and control. So far I can manage about 2 tons to Jool or at least 3.5 to Duna/Eve.
  7. Orbital! I've tested the release of the crewed shuttle in a 100x100 orbit, though higher ones are certainly possible with good piloting. When carrying the unmanned one, 200x200km shouldn't be a problem even with a full payload bay. Also, many thanks for the compliments
  8. Hi everyone! This is Phase 3 of a fully reusable launcher system. I'm not going to add anything new to it, unless you request something. On the left, you see the Snowborne unmanned shuttle, rated for 5 tons of cargo. Posing on the right, the Rosomah crewed shuttle with 6 seats. And standing in the background, Lucifer ALP itself- the carrier craft. The shuttles piggyback on their carrier craft... ...decouple upon reaching orbit... ...and land separately of the ALP. Both have around 1000 m/s of ÃŽâ€v and ample supplies of monopropellant. DOWNLOAD Just unzip to your SPH folder. There are several SPH files inside; one for each version of the craft. The shuttles are now included as separate files, but since they are optimised for that system of delivery...trust me, I tried strapping them onto a rocket. It's hard New in v2: Updated Snowborne! More ÃŽâ€v, better RCS control, better stability New in v3: A new shuttle, Karuna, which can carry both a payload and a crew of two. +A subassembly named ALP probe launcher which is exactly what it sounds like: an expendable upper stage for launching small-ish interplanetary probes. I'd recommend separating the fairings while suborbital; action group 5 toggles the solar panels. Additional pics here! Flight instructions and action group bindings are in the relevant crafts description. Of course, ask away if something doesn't work right
  9. Testing continues! Today I filled the shuttle's payload bay with 3 tons of additional fuel and launched it - using Lucifer - towards Minmus. It landed with enough fuel to probably get back to orbit, but most likely not enough to return to Kerbin.
  10. Good news (considering)! I hope your non-KSP-related files survived unscathed In other news...well, chaps, this is possibly the only time I created an SSTO by accident 0_o Not only is the fully loaded, 15 ton shuttle a breeze to put into 100 km orbit, even less...aerodynamic payloads are possible. This deserves to be investigated further!
  11. A couple of days ago one of you guys asked me for the shuttle craft file...sorry I haven't replied, but real life had priority =D Anyway, the piggyback-shuttle idea has merit. This was the first try, Spiral ALP (Air Launch Platform), but it could barely lift off: After a few failed versions, I redesigned from the ground up and an hour ago the seventh iteration of Lucifer ALP managed to put the shuttle onto a suborbital trajectory, then went on to climb to orbit itself. I even managed to land it on the runway, which is a rare moment This is an older version, but it shows the shuttle mounting point. I need to fix a few fuel flow issues and it will be released!
  12. I put up a Salyut in the multiplayer server of KSP Subreddit. Stage separation always looks nice
  13. Bumpity bump (and slight necro) Depending on how lifelike you want your Kerbals to be and from how far away the illusion should be maintained, there might be another way. You know bahamutod's Critter Crawler? It's only one part, but it can...well, crawl. If its model is changed and animations adjusted (with permission, of course), we could get walking "Kerbals" as parts! ...I don't actually know anything about working with Unity, so take this with a grain of salt.
  14. Aside from the demo, I started with 0.21. Ah, the memories on having to cross-strut boosters to oblivion and spontaneous launch pad explosions... Good riddance
  15. I already tried strapping it to a Skipper-powered 2.5m stack and crossfeeding fuel. It gets to orbit, but not without unholy amounts of concentration and fiddling with thrust limiters
  16. Not yet, but Harv was confirmed to work on implementing some kind of drag shielding. As a counterpoint to the rather huge spaceplanes on the previous pages, I present my mini-shuttle. Very happy with its performance and look, but I'm at a loss how to deal with its launch system. My main thoughts are either a reusable Shuttle-style main tank or piggybacking it on another plane á la Sänger 2. What do you think?
  17. Finished my Rosetta replica. Also- messed around with Kronal Vessel Viewer. Best tool ever!
  18. I usually start noticing lag at around 400 parts, so I try to keep most ships under that...anything over 600 lags severely :/
  19. Damn, those are some impressive aircraft! I'm currently rebuilding the Dustmarcher rover to fit in a 2.8m fairing- unfortunately the new control surfaces can't be stacked
  20. Yay! Thank you Here are some pictures of the pallet swap: Bonus pic: early version of the habitat which used spin stabilisation Sepratrons on Laythe ascent were mainly for the event of landing on a slope; I was afraid the nozzle would get stuck in the descent module and flip the whole thing over...it has happened before, after all
  21. Hey, people! Okay, my entry is done and flown- now I can uninstall 0.24.2 and proceed with the new version Prior to this challenge, I've only ever been to Jool with tiny unmanned probes, and never even thought of returning. So planning kinda took a long time =p But I'm not sure whether I qualify for level 2 or 3- the crew consisted of six Kerbals, but all landings had either three (Laythe, Tylo) or two astronauts. I'd be happy with either one - Which game versions did you use? 0.24.2 - What mods did you use, if any? None during the actual mission; KER and Hyperedit in the design phase - How many launches was needed to start your mission from Kerbal? Oh boy. 4 for Cor Serpentis (the mothership) + landers, 4 refueling missions, then I had to exchange the Tylo lander due to lack of ladders, and finally 2 crew launches. In total: 11 - How many refueling did you do during the mission, how much and where? None, unless refueling of the landers from the mothership counts - Did you bring a Living Quarter (Hitch-hiker's Storage) for the guys during the long journey? Yep, one per 2 Kerbals - Did you bring additional stuff like satellites, rovers, etc? A habitat module&rover for Laythe, a small rover for Vall (but it was part of the main lander) and two experiment pallets for Bop/Pol. Part count was the biggest limitation... - Share the delta-V informations too, if you tracked it! Cor Serpentis itself had 10500 m/s without payload, 6100 m/s fully loaded. Don't know about the rest Order of the moons was: Laythe, Tylo, Vall, Pol, Bop. Before heading to Tylo, I undocked the Vall lander which went directly to Vall unmanned, then refueled upon returning the mothership from Tylo. - all landers were pressurized - space for 13 Kerbals, not counting the mobile lab - 2 MMUs on the mothership - turning the damn thing took way too long. I should have put more reaction wheels on it. Here's the mission album: And here you can download most ships used in the challenge. Thank you for the challenge, Ziv! I hope this qualifies. If you need more proof, just ask EDIT: the album pics seem to be cropped for some reason? It's better to view it on imgur. EDIT #2: I just noticed that the Laythe lander could be considered to break the no part clipping rule. Alt+F12 wasn't used during construction though, and the adapter is hollow anyway. So...make what you want of that
  22. Barely efficient. I haven't tried career mode yet, and even in sandbox function follows form
  23. Sure, here's the dropbox link. I'm afraid it's a bit of overkill for Minmus, though- the ascent stage alone has 1400 m/s dV (at least in 0.24.2)
