Making a rocket to beat all other rockets
alpha tech replied to alpha tech's topic in Science & Spaceflight
Well orbital velocity is about 17500 mph so I think the x15 went about 5000 MPH and it got into space where you could feel no gravity I will take this Into consideration -

Delta v required to hit the edge of the atmosphere? And for drag and stuff just add more Delta v to last stage 100m/s maybe? -

That's ok I can tone it down to work with smaller rockets -

I can use that to get an ideal of how I need to separate the Delta v over 3 stages and then I build the rocket calculating the mass of the fuel and the volume needed to get the Delta v and the density/volume for the container for the fuel and the payload and all other parts that are unlisted. And I can repeat this for all other stages but adding the mass of the previous stages -

OK if I know my Delta v I came do approximations on how I need to build the stages of my rocket by calculating fuel mass burn rate etc -

OK I have a concept for finding how I need to make the rocket by calculating the volume and density of the fuel and the density of the container by the volume to get the mass of the stage and all I have to do to is repeat this and add the last stages mass and by the burn rate of propellant and mass to acommadate for stage. this is only a theroy I haven't figured it all out yet and I need an approximation of the Delta v I need to achieve this orbit. @munlander1 Your thoughts on this -

i think I have a problem how can I get the rocket to go straight up without going off coarse too much cause I live near a lot of trees -

That is why I need a very efficient first stage to de the heavy lifting and then a second stage to kick it near orbital velocity and a third stage to finalize it and I need to figure antenna to work this out for communication -

OK for one thing. I live in oconee cout the nearest rocket store is Anderson and that is a long way from where I live so I am going to try to build my own but I need a mixture with a high ISP and a low burn rate and I need one where I can test ideas on and a proto type. The first one that I am building is going to help determine fuel mixture. Now I have a concept and I want to ask your opinions on it if I bring the thrust chamber to a fine point and expand it for the gas will it produce a higher thrust. And I also need a list of fuels that I could try and mix different than kno3 and sugar. Also is not that I don't care about safety it's just that if it comes to my attention that something is dangerous I will take precautions -

I have been away from this thread for a while due to not having some materials that I still haven't got yet but for the test rockets what does the inner tube need to be made of so it can withstand the heat and pressure of the solid fuel and I need an ejection charge and decide on the fuel to use r candy, aluminum powder. unknown mixture and I need parachute protection from the ejection charge the fire brick Is becoming a challenge to find cause I want a certain type of it aluminum silicate King of random @munlander1 you know that arc welder king of random built with the transformers well I kind of broke the paper with the clamp on one of the transformers on the coil he wanted to save and replace the other with the other gauge wire is there any way I can make another one or need a new transformer cause I need this to build my furnace and the water thing that varies the amps can I use a variable resistor or do I need the varied thing that he made -

I did that before I looked and the exponent was negitave so its millionths 0.04 -

890.5 60*60*90 380000m Ve = SQRT (2*3.0136321*10^11/320000) 1372.4

ok now for the delta v needed to get to this orbit is around 1200 m/s can someone check this cause I was using old delta v map and I figured I needed to use meters and 890 sounds a little wrong cause that's only a few hundred from the escape velocity at 1300 m/s but I don't know maybe its right
