Which fits with "double it and add thirty (months)" Edit: And with ITS, it'll be "double it and add thirty (years)" -

Elon speaks in metric time. To convert to standard time, double it and add thirty. -
The best time to change inclination, or reverse a retrograde orbit, is as far away from the primary as you can get, when your vessel is moving slowest. The lower you are, the faster you move, so hitting Laythe retrograde is a very fast encounter indeed

As long as your boss doesn't think it's the 26oz flu. You can say it's a new strain, the F9H-1 flu -
Is it bad that I killed Jeb for the 159th time?
StrandedonEarth replied to LeKiwi's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Someone needs to make a South Park-style "OMG They Killed Jeb!!" meme. I'd do it myself but I just don't have the artistic chops to do it right. -
What's asparagus got to do with space flight?
StrandedonEarth replied to DualDesertEagle's topic in Science & Spaceflight
Bah. I wanted to drop in the meme about "This Asparagus Recipe Looks Complicated" posted by @Red Iron Crown a couple of years ago, but the image link is no longer valid... Google didn't seem to find it.. His last activity was a week ago... Like hey, where'd he go? -
Thanks for the compliments and tips! I'll be sure to remember that the next time I'm going for action pics. I got this Canon EOS Rebel T5 off AirMiles 2-3 years ago now, and am still slowly figuring out how to work it. I also picked up a 55-250mm zoom lens on sale earlier this year, which is what I used for those pics. All I could think for this outing was to crank up the shutter speed to freeze the cars. It's definitely time I took some photography workshops, hopefully this fall if overtime (busy season) permits. Hopefully I can still find the manual for it (if at first you don't succeed, try reading the instructions).

Yes, Malibu. Sorry if my earlier post is a little confusing; the dog's name is Marley. We also have an Affenpinscher, Timbit, that is more like a cat: sleeps all day, comes out for food and petting and going outside. Marley is a bundle of nerves. Malibu has given him an occupation (kitty-watching) and several pats on the nose already. Marley has responded with the occasional pawing and warning snap.

My wife works at a daycare; a parent had two sibling kittens that needed a home and she wanted to give them away together. When one of my wife's coworkers said she'd take one, my wife took the other. The story was that the mother was a farm cat that got hit by a car. They were said to be 6 weeks old, but consensus among the pros (pet store and vet staff) was around 4 weeks give or take. When we got to the vet he was 14oz. (<400g). I could feel his ribs pretty good then, but a week of kitten food and kitten milk has put a nice layer on his ribcage. i didn't want the kitten; I knew the vet and initial supplies would be getting close to $300 (I wasn't wrong), and we're kinda over our animal limit for the strata. So I was kinda mad. But who can stay mad when TINY LITTLE KITTEN!

And in other news, my wife acquired a bundle of furry fishhooks... He's gone from a weak 14-oz fleabit, eye-infected orphan to a little terror in a short week, closely watched by our rescue mutt. "Malibu" (aka Boomer) has been wonderful in calming down the mutt, who is endlessly fascinated by this ball of moving fluff and wants to play with it, but isn't quite sure how. If he only knew what's in store for him when kitty grows a little.... I think I'm gonna take some photography workshops this fall...

Some pinhole experimentation with my phone camera, while taking an unscheduled break at work. The eclipse reached just over 89% totality here in the Fraser Valley We had a pretty good shadow tree out front

It was a beautiful day at Mission Raceway Park here in BC. I locked the shutter at 1/4000 and fired away. Top Fuel Harleys! Wheelstanders! Close races! I'm sure Jeb woulda loved the jet cars!

One could argue that sci-fi is just a different flavor of fantasy. And besides, any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic. But I digress... I second any recommendation for anything by Larry Niven, along with others like World of Ptaavs or Protector. Expanding on Niven's "Known Universe" (which includes the aforementioned books, and the Ringworld) is a series of anthologies called Tales from the Man-Kzin Wars where other authors get to play in the "Known Universe." Another favorite of Niven's outside the KU is The Mote in God's Eye. For something rather different, which straddles that blurry line between sci-fi and fantasy (I've seen it in both sections) is "The Dragonriders Of Pern" series by Anne McAffrey. It tends to the young adult spectrum a little, but it sucked me in. I don't think the ones by her son Todd are nearly as good.

Another little trick is to put properly sized cross-fed fuel tanks on the top of your SRB's, to be dropped with the SRB. -

There's been no word on a LEM descent stage (which would be easy enough make from current and future stock parts), but here's some WIP preview pics of the LEM and Apollo capsule...: (yes, working RCS)

Should We Launch a Kid to Space?

While I agree it would be wrong, I know a few kids I'd like to send on a one-way trip to space...- 128 replies

With practically unlimited solar power from the sun, massive amounts of electrical and thermal power may be online faster than you think. Of course, the hurdle there is bootstrapping the means to create solar collectors and PV arrays in situ...
