  1. They stopped making 3-wheel ATV's because they were too unstable, and office chairs have 5 wheels (redundant, yes, but also more stable). Coincidence, or QED?
  2. I notice that the OP is complaining that everything wants to go right. Either it's a symmetry issue or a control issue. Maybe a trim or control setting was accidentally tweaked? Another poster saying that everything exploded randomly. Not sure why, maybe something corrupted somewhere? To both I would say maybe try a fresh download and install, and see if anything behaves differently. Also, if you see re-entry effects during ascent you're going too fast; get a mod like VOID or KER to show your TWR (Thrust-to-Weight Ratio), and keep your liftoff TWR under 1.5-1.8.
  3. Just a quick repost from the Space Lounge model rocket thread, from back in January: It's only been in that tree for two years now. There's some Lego guys, including a Legonaut (not Benny) in the payload section. Launching with the boys:
  4. I'm getting this now too. It was placed in orbit in one launch, no docking with anything, launched after accepting the contract. In the screenshot you can see docking ports, solar panels, and an antenna transmission. Is there somewhere in the save file that I can see what is not letting it complete? I know I can complete it in the debug menu, but will I still get the kash for it?
  5. Having read Wilbur Smith's "Taita" novels (River God, Warlock, The Quest) I could get behind some Egyptian names. Horus, (or Akh-Horus, brother of Horus) has a nice ring to it. Hapi might be appropriate for SLS, because I believe she was the goddess associated with hippos
  6. KAC is the first mod I ever got, because I was tired (annoyed with myself) of warping past nodes. I run multiple, trying to use transfer windows when they come up. I'll do a Mun mission during a Minmus transit. I did a whole Jool Tour during an Eeloo transit. It seemed to take forever to get those Eeloogans back home, with alarms popping up from Jool, Dres, Duna, Eve, and Moho. My long term missions usually end up getting named things like "Jool Explorer," "Eeloo-Bound" or "HomeBound" so I know where they should be going.
  7. Why stop at fuel? Go for metals, too. As a purely opt-in system, of course. Tier 0 R&D: Be able to build small, semi-mobile ore and fuel extractors, with a built-in, limited range scanner. Go around KSC, scan for resources, and permanently plant your extractor on it. Profit! Tier 1: Orbital scanners, land the small extractors for profit Tier 2/3: Large extractors for ore and fuel. Refine the concept (and resources) as necessary.
  8. Back in my day we had to make do with a model rocket club. The computer club got to play with Apple II's
  9. End-game mission: place a minimum 100 megaton vessel (may include asteroids) on a Kerbol escape trajectory along the given vector.
  10. I piggybacked a Gilly probe onto an Eve station, decoupled and landed it on Gilly. I had locked out the probe's internal charge in case I forgot to deploy the panels. Sure enough, sending back science data drained the external batteries, which is when I realized I hadn't deployed the panels. When I unlocked the core charge, the antenna sucked up all ten EC before I could deploy a panel, and the probe was still dead. A later survey mission re-activated the probe
  11. I dunno. When it states a docking port, does it have to be an available, unoccupied docking port?
  12. F5/F9: The KSP equivalent of "Give it a bang! Kick it!"
  13. I'm just addressing this one part: virtual particles pop into existence, requiring mc2 worth of energy. Virtual particles pop out of existence, releasing the same amount of energy. (I don't know what happens to added momentum when the particles vanish.) So a constant energy input is not needed to create mass, rather it is recycled. I do hope this develops into a working, propellant-less "space drive." That would be a huge game-changer for space exploration.
  14. That looks epic. Did someone hit the self-destruct?
  15. Maybe it allows you to choose a shape for the plug, or perhaps even make your own custom shape. IIRC the STS SRB's started with a star shaped core/combustion chamber, for the maximum surface area to burn (= max thrust). As it burned the shape became rounder, reducing the thrust as the vehicle became lighter.
  16. I've had goofy things like that happen. I just edited the save file and rounded off his latitude to the nearest degree. When I reloaded it dropped him 100m or so away from the lander.
  17. The one time it happened to me, I think it was because I hit the little double-arrows for "warp to Ap/Pe." But then, I don't get that much time to play, and usually just do normla warp and rely on KAC
  18. See the "Wobbly Rockets " link in my sig for an example of this. I made that clip in 0.90, but I don't think the flexibility has changed much. One other difference from IRL. Kerbin's atmosphere cuts off abruptly at 70km. You can watch your huge, draggy station in a 71kmx71km orbit forever, and the orbit will never decay, but at 69x69, it will eventually decay (unless on rails). IRL, while the 'boundary' of where space begins is agreed at 100km, it doesn't end there, it just keeps getting thinner. The ISS orbits at around 400km, but its orbit will decay due to atmospheric drag without occasional reboosts.
  19. I tried my full name and some old nicknames, and got nothing related to me. Tried my current username on Google Image search, and found.... Again, nothing to actually do with me, but hey....
