Exposing Kerbals to environment
MC.STEEL replied to lajoswinkler's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
It is cruel but but it would suit some peoples role play. Like the komunists refered to cosmonaughts somewhat as "live resources". -
Science is not suposed to be grindy!
MC.STEEL replied to MC.STEEL's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
I understand but ksp isnt just about zooming around in space. Its about commanding an ENTIRE space program to expand kerbal kind to new frontiers. If you played games like xcom(sorry for bringing it up so much it just the only game i can think of at the moment that has managment), its actual combat/base managment is about 50/50 gametime, why should ksp be diminished to a simple space flight sim. -
and suddenly le wild sci fi movie/game that uses this idea appears.

Science is not suposed to be grindy!
MC.STEEL replied to MC.STEEL's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
also because whe have to time skip to do science there can also be a mechanic to make rockets be build in a set amount of (in game) time, making you think ahead of time -
So i dont know if everyone is aware or just doesent care (maybe even likes the way it is now) but i think the science mechanic needs to be a bit redefined and a new thing involved: technology research. The way it is now science is learning about the celestial bodies and then unlocking parts with that. Almost anyone would agree that this doesnt make sense. -hey Werner whe got the results from the munar exploration the surface temperature is 35Kelvin. -Oh great thats just what i needed to finish my mainsail desing. See it doesent make sense. Now the thing i would like to bring to the table is very much inspired by XCOM enemy unknown,a great game and i dont see whats wrong with borowing ideas from other games(plus there arent much games with such game mechanics). 1-separate planetary database and research. the r. points that are used to unlock higher tech parts like basic parts then rcs then large parts then nervas and rtg then xenon tech. 1st way to gather them:hiring scientists and letting them research in the complex for a set amount of time, there should also be a time skip at the ksc screen. (do not suggest list but still you should be able to hire not just kerbonaughts) 2nd using and unstable prototype that has a random chance to malfuntion(do not suggest list but its that, a prototype not a main part) 3rd way is using parts in different configurations like on a mishion that uses LV 45<-> FL T-200 <-> MK1 cmpod on a suborbital 30,000m will bring you, say, 40 points. As a mainsail, 2 jumbos decouplers, a poodle, fueltanks, landing legs, lander can and a parachute doing a munar land and return gives you 650 points.but doing it in the same configuration over and over again gives diminishing returns so you can try to put them in different ways. As for the exsisting science points and biomes the more you have the higher preseige you get (buzz aldrins race unto space vibe goin on) thus more funds that diminish over time. also some data gathered like visiting Kerbins poles gives you better cooling technology. And thats pretty much it. sorry for the bad english im not in the mood to do it properly right now and i dont want to meddle in squads work,or if they have it planned but im just saying that a game thats so realistic and then you have a research mechanic thats dubious at best,it just makes me sad and yes i know its alfa but whe need a stable research mechanic before proceeding to make the contracts list.

personaly i like nuclear power like a two year old liking guns because of video games.I like them because the sheer technological might they have, making me proud that i am from a race that can use and create technology even though im perfectly aware how dangerous this is.
-
Alas the power requirements for this device would far outway any sort of advantage you would get from it. (I am on the theory that if you put enough energy in the correct manner everything is possible.)
-
yea ive seen tech like this before theres the RYNO a one weel electric motorcycle and another motorised unicicle that i dont remember its name but it was red and another thats just a weel with step pads on it and segways are the granddaddys of them all and now this i see another vehicle market coming in fast
-
Well ive very much liked the TITAN, PROTON series of rockets and the energia-buran,with its side boosters configured in an x shape and the nosecones sink in the main body giving it a nice and sleek finish.

Would humans benefit from having tails today?
MC.STEEL replied to Tex's topic in Science & Spaceflight
Oh **** you blew my cover ABORT ABORT but on a more serious note: tails can be very usefull like showing emotion it could be used just for decoration or even a 5th limb(i personaly would put my keyring on it when theres no danger of them being stolen). On a purely anatomical stand point "furry" phisiology is vastly superior to the stock "human" body -
While i totaly agree with you its just fun to speculate about the future and its not like I am writing this instead of reasearching something important.
-
So thats what its all about! ive heard about the trojans but only now i get what this phenomenon is called
-
Big over the top and filled with explosions, gods that live in the sky that tell the kerbal race to come visit them, kerbulees the kerbal that single handedly traveled to the underworld to repair the great pillar (ahem strut) of the world, and of course the mythical space kraken, the nemesis of the gods. I would realy like to see more being in the game,a story telling why kerbals are the way they are and perhaps a "moral of the story" that teaches us something deeper besides MOAR BOOSTERS!!!!!!11!1!! btw i think this belongs to general discushion.

Aha, so what about the emergency hydrogen collector i proposed?
-
drag? i am talking about a magnetic scoop. who would want to make a ship with a giant scoop on the front, its just silly(i bet the kerbals will try atleast)
-
Bussard ramjet is a theoretical method of spacecraft propulsion proposed in 1960 by the physicist Robert W. Bussard, a random scrap of info about a type of interstelar engines that i made a tread for
-
So a Bussard ramjet is a theoretical method of spacecraft propulsion proposed in 1960 by the physicist Robert W. Bussard. it works on a principle of a fusion rocket but instead of carying its own fuel it uses a giant magnetic scoop that gathers hydrogen from the surounding cosmos, then the same magnetic forces crush the hydrogen together causing a fusion reaction, proppeling the craft forward. Its an interesting concept but i see some problems with this desing. 1 If we use the same interstellar lanes then as more gas is scooped up less and less fuel will be left making them useless at some point in the future. 2 For a field that strong you will have to make a ship very robust to not crumple in on itself, and not to talk about your keys and other such sticking to the wall furing burns. 3 Like all proposed interstellar propulshion (excluding the Orion N.P.E.) where is it going to get all that power? BTW i have an idea, wouldnt it be neat if ships have an emergency hydrogen scoop in the times they run out of fuel
-
I was wondering what if the ships had some sort of maneuvering technology that whe arent aware of... like a microwarpdrive that not only increases speed but also maneuverablity or a sistem that lets them "dig in" the darkmatter/subspace/whatever else floats your boat, giving them plane like capabilities?

a bit of help for an SSTO
MC.STEEL replied to MC.STEEL's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
I have an rtg on the underbelly,i just found that the fuel needs a bit more to reach orbit and the cot is just ever so slightly above the com but that doesent realy effect it because it only needs half the runway. and sorry i cant post a sideview i totaly fail at image embeding -

Read the rest of the text it says i am going to replace the jet with a rapier engine -
a bit of help for an SSTO
MC.STEEL replied to MC.STEEL's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
that was quick i know i am still trying to fix it -
Introducing the THUNDERBOLT SSTO prototype. This is my first SSTO i am trying and i managed to make it extra cool. Mechjeb shows that i technicaly have the delta v using a R.A.P.I.E.R. instead of the jet it curently has. I still want to tweak it a bit so lets see what you people have to say untill i go for the ssto tesing phase. Btw; it has more scoops under the plane.
