Mun, Duna, Gilly(ect...) Program
r4pt0r replied to r4pt0r's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
Resurrecting my thread because I still feel it would vastly improve the flow and progression of 'career' mode, and I would like more discussion on that. I just landed on minmus in order to get enough rep for a "plant a flag on minmus"contract. If players could design their own programs, then planting a flag would already have been one of the final steps in a more natural >flyby>orbit>unmanned-landing>manned-landing progression. This also gives players more control of their program, receiving advance/completion payments from a kerbal government for missions they themselves want to do, rather than being contractors. -

As the community criticism in the direction of the QA & exp testers thread was locked because people kept derailing the thread to talk about how its not the QA/EXP teams fault, but rather Squads poor decision making, the "Is it ready for 1.0" thread is proof to Squad: We tried to warn you. We understand that this update brought the game to a point where the devs feel it is complete. But at that point it should have been KSP .95 "Coming in hot!". Why? All the new systems you added were never subjected to a proper public beta. Thus your untested new features required 1.0.1, 1.0.2, and very likely will get 1.0.3. This is a result of the decision making, and is by no means the QA/EXP teams fault. Again, this not the testers faults. The last release should not have tons of brand new content. Yes I also understand that many games have patches and bugfixes post 1.0. The point is it was not ready for that. This most recent update should have been your Apollo 10. A dress rehearsal before the real deal. Then once everything has been assessed, tested, polished, balanced and bugfixed, then you can do your Apollo 11. But more than a few view this as more of an Apollo 13. Sure you fixed/are fixing it, and everyone will make it home safe eventually, but what was supposed to be a crowning achievement has been tarnished. KSP is still fun, we love the game, and everyone here will still play it, but you cant take back what I view as a bungled 1.0 launch. Just wanted to say my piece on this, goodnight all.

[Ancient History] The Lighthouse of Alexandria will be rebuilt.
r4pt0r replied to r4pt0r's topic in The Lounge
I retorted without even reading my own statement well played. As for being on the original site, I should hope some proper excavation would occur, if it has not already. I know that some of the original is still in the sea, just next to the site, and most of the rubble from the original was dragged off to help construct a fortress. - - - Updated - - - That sounds like a great idea JK. But I do wonder where the financing will come from. It might be split between egypt and the city Alexandria itself? I'll update this thread when more information is released. -
except the DPRK's Space agency, the "National Aeronautics Development Agency". I dont want them to be space capable.

How to make antennas stay deployed?
r4pt0r replied to CatastrophicFailure's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
I thought there used to be an "extend" button, and It would save that state when you reloaded that craft? -
[Ancient History] The Lighthouse of Alexandria will be rebuilt.
r4pt0r replied to r4pt0r's topic in The Lounge
I thought about that and visited wikipedia, they have a section about this sort of. :P :P maybe you are right, maybe I am, still really cool that this is happening. - - - Updated - - - I know nothing else other than what I've shared here. A metal sub-structure with a look-alike facade would still be cool I suppose, but an accurate construction would be most awesome. then again the original was rather suceptable to earthquakes so who knows? -
Indeed. Now who is the cheeky dev who did this I wonder?

The "Permanent Committee of the Egyptian Antiquities" has approved a project to rebuild one of the 7 wonders of the ancient world. All thats left now is for Alexandria's regional government to also approve the project, according to Dr Mostafa Amin, secretary general of the Supreme Council of Antiquities. The Original Lighthouse was an estimated 393–450 ft (120–137 m) tall, and was one of the tallest man-made structures for hundreds of years. I for one think this is awesome. Many sites list the project as a "replica" so I believe the plan is to be pretty historically accurate. I can't wait to hear more on this.

The Problem with Contract Science
r4pt0r replied to The Yellow Dart's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
You shoulda seen the old versions, part testing contracts gave you a bunch of science, they really cut it down already. -
every time I see that mudkip I smile. its just so cute.

I am playing on normal, and just now completed a Minmus Flyby. So far managing funds/rep and getting science is not hard. What I dont like is the re-entry heating. Granted, Im on normal, so re-entry is at 100%, not the 120% that hard has, but there seems to be almost no heat. From Minmus, I used the rest of my fuel to zero out my periapsis, and fire straight down into kerbin. I hit atmosphere at over 3600m/s, got the temp gauges to a dark green on a solar panel, a goo canister, and the engine(I entered butt first), and....that was it. I slammed into it trying to cause a failure, and then fell essentially unharmed until I hit the ocean at a gentle 140m/s. Whats up with that? Sure its normal difficulty I'd still like a bit of danger.
-
I had trouble reaching the page the day I posted this, and again now. all the gameinformer site is down again.
-
oh my. well that and the heat gauge memory leak should be the primary targets of 1.0.3 hopefully. cant see that being in stock for a normal 3 month update cycle. especially now we are a "released" game.

Are fairings useless?
r4pt0r replied to zarincos's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
I have not gotten to use fairings in my career yet, but Im glad someone looked into some solid numbers on them. I too hope this gets tweaked. -
