Put an alternator on the RAPIER!
11of10 replied to Stoney3K's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
Regarding Skylon, I think I read somewhere that it's supposed to be solely battery powered, with no internal power sources. That does sound strange tho, when the idea is rapid reusability. -
How would intelligent life on aquatic worlds came to be?
11of10 replied to RainDreamer's topic in Science & Spaceflight
The intelligent squid idea reminds me of Mass Effect. As for Newton's first law, they would realise that there is drag when moving even more easily than humans, due to increased drag in denser environment, like water. Therefore, they might be able to conclude from that that when there is 0 drag, in 1/∞ dense medium, object would move without stopping once a force acts on it.- 50 replies

Well, if I do get a new CPU, it'll be thoroughly researched before that, don't worry, and thanks! Funny thing tho, exactly the same physics slowdown happens in both 1.0.5 and 1.1 prerelease with the same craft, even when I rebuild it completely from scratch... Even if the rest of the game performs much better!

i5 is a bit out of my budget, for now at least. And to think that this current CPU was more than good when it was bought... goshdarnittoheck
-
Darn it, that I didn't know! Hmm... seems a new CPU is in order

What about AMD A4-5300 APU with 6GB RAM? Or rather, why does it go into yellow as soon as I make a rover with over 40 parts?

A combination of available time to play, aerodynamics, and the fact that I have some oversized cargo that is too big even for MK3 cargo bays, and yet needs to be recovered after deployment on another planets. A problem I haven't solved yet in over a year. Also, I never managed to get anything larger than MK2 into orbit. Just can't get it to work, no matter what. MK2s work beautifully, but MK3 are a nightmare, it seems.

Query: I tried using USI-LS in a RSS game, and it required a 3.75m supplies tank for 6 people for 38 days. Is that correct? TAC seems to give a much higher autonomy per unit of mass than USI. Which one is more realistically based? Thank you

How is this possible? (New Roscosmos space capsule)
11of10 replied to fredinno's topic in Science & Spaceflight
Russians (as well as Soviets before them) have a lot of competent engineers in their own right, so who knows what they might pull out of the hat. And labor price is cheaper there, and that goes for R&D crew as well, which can reduce prices immensely. -
Is it just me, or is the new RSS/RO mod suite when installed having a much higher ingame performance (bar SRM launches where Real Plume particles kill my CPU)?

How is this possible? (New Roscosmos space capsule)
11of10 replied to fredinno's topic in Science & Spaceflight
It's a paper vehicle, until it's built, we won't know what it can actually do and how much it actually costs. -
@lajoswinkler Good point there, I completely forgot about that stuff!

I'm not disputing the ability of SFRY industry to reach that high, I just don't believe such a project was actually interesting to Broz & Co at the time.

Regarding Ender's... hmm.. I read the first book, it was interesting, if somewhat strange for me (still can't put my finger on how exactly) but Speaker just bored me.. Currently, I'm re-reading Vorkosigan saga, for who knows which time. I discovered it long time ago, when my two friends bought me Shards of Honor and Barrayar for the same birthday, and got hooked. Also, one book by Clarke that I like: Earthlight Rendesvous with Rama is very good, but later books not so much, for my taste at least. I'll add some other stuff later, as it comes to mind.

@mikegarrison I think you've hit bullseye. Along with Orao I think that's closest SFRY came to Karman Line As for airbase Željava (that's how it was called) I don't think there was enough room inside for any large rocket parts... now, if yugoslav engineers devised something useful to USA, and sold it... who knows. Actually, now you guys have sort of tickled my interest... I was adamant about NOT seeing that thing, now I just might... (there goes that expensive adamantium again...)

If I saw correctly, it has starlanes, so probably a dumb AI... dissapointed

Makes two of us... now I have three versions of KSP on my drive! Go SQUAD!

Is there a calculation tool for RSS

You might try Kerbal Alarm Clock mod You can also get it on CKAN. -
You know... at this moment, you don't really need a Martian laser station. You just need to bring enough fuel to slow down the probe, or whatever it is you're sending, other than crews. In time, if there is need, I imagine interplanetary civilization could finance building of multiple such laser stations, sort of how the trains receive their power from the powerplant, and only use it, instead of making it, so could some future spacecraft work in similar manner. Besides... you can always send a giant mirror to orbit Mars, and target it from here, to slow down your lightcraft with Earth's own laser station... Just in the early days, of course

Well, if this is viable, even for small probes, I guess it could practically open Solar system for us. I mean, even if you'd need 20 days to Mars with this, it's still incredibly better than whatever we have today. Send some infrastructure before the crew, and send the crew in a small craft just for them, and I guess you're on to something.

@Ethanadams I know what Tails is and what it does, I was just curious if you really have to use it, however now that I think about it, maybe it's better to avoid that question.. @LN400 And CONFIG.SYS ... and endless wrestling matches with memmaker.exe to get Frontier (Elite 2) to work on my pitiful 486, only to realise it CAN'T work on EGA graphics Anyway, for Windows XP, it wasn't really that good until approximately Service pack 2. Vista is supposedly ok with all the patches installed, but I really never dared to try it. Anyone tried IBM OS/2?

Win 7, for now, tho I'm flirting with idea of going for 8.1 for quite some time now, but still don't really have the guts for it... Once I tried Win8, Core version I think, and it actually had MUCH WORSE performance in gaming than Win 7. @Ethanadams Why Tails?
