  1. Sorry if it's unrelated, but due to how much I liked this story, I've began to picture the plucky colonists at Duna in my save file as some sort of 'analogues' to the ones in this story. Mitkin seems to be like Aldner, Bill appears to be just like Thompbles, and Malllan is most likely Kurt and/or Nelemy.
  2. ...wow. My computer would be brought to it's knees if it tried to endure THAT.
  3. I landed on Duna and sent some rovers. ...what? It's not as good as your Single Stage to Tylo and Back spaceplane with no refueling no docking no cheating no nothing? ...stop making me feel bad, it's an achievement for me :c
  4. I still feel bad for cramming Jebediah in a Mk1 Command Pod on the Mun for a full Munar cycle. So I crammed him in a Hitchhikers on Minmus with 3 other Kerbals. But yeah, I began to feel bad for sending Kerbals on missions alone, so I began to avoid using one-Kerbal ships, with the obvious exception of rovers.
  5. Remember back a few pages ago, when I said I had went to Duna for the first time, and my first flight to another planet? Well, I've decided to set a base in there for the crew to have fun as they wait for the return window. It was painful, with an unexpected Kraken encounter on the way, but I did it. Now they have some toys. Mallan takes a photo of Bill next to one of the rovers. The other rover, the rocket and Ike can be seen in the distance. Afterwards, Mitkin decided to take one of the rovers for a drive northwards. Unfortunately, these rovers were not exactly perfectly suited for driving on Duna...so a lot of crashes and F9 presses near misses happened. Mitkin poses near a large boulder he found during his roving. During that, he passed through several hills, leading him to name the field 'Rolling Hills'. His goal was a tall mountain he could see in the horizon. It was tough to get there, but unfortunately he was unable to climb it, so he just planted a flag on it's feet and named it 'Mt. Roundcliff's feet'. Afterwards, the first driven exploration of Duna was concluded, making a huge leap in the sucess of the space program back on Kerbin. I heard some of the upper heads are even planning on sending Kerbals to Gilly, Eve's moon.
  6. Hm, I thought the Drogue parachutes were supposed to do that - deploy high up and not enough to slow your craft enough to prevent it from exploding by itself, but enough for you to safely deploy the main 'chutes. That's how I've been doing after I landed that rocket. I even sent them some rovers using that strategy.
  7. I had to sacrifice some of the fuel to reduce my rocket's speed to ~150m/s. It was a close call, I was around 650m away from the surface. And yes, I repacked the 'chutes, I just took the picture before I repacked them. Yes, it's fuel. Liquid Fuel, even. And it's alright. But I'm not planning to send them back to Kerbin(yet). In fact, after I landed the trio in there I think I'm going to set an operational base on Duna. And I use the Kerbal Attachment System, so it's a simple matter of sending a tanker with a pipe end and a storager module containing another pipe end, have a Kerbal grab it, carry it to the main rocket, attach it, connect the pipes, and transfer fuel. ^^
  8. I've seen Scott Manley's showcase of the Universe Replacer and Chatterer mods, and at the 5:40 mark he shows a space station using modded parts. I liked the interior seen from IVA, and as such I'd like to use that mod, but I don't know what mod is that! The video:
  9. A guy did. (I think it was Mihara.) I don't want to spoil it for others, so I'm just linking the page with the pictures.
  10. I made three Kerbals set foot on Duna for the first time. It was really painful, but with the help of some IRC users I managed to overcome Mt. Doom(one of the main reasons I was failing to land) and land safely. The crew likely lacks enough fuel to return to Kerbin, but I plan on sending them a refueling module to refill their ship.
  11. Well, I managed to land on Duna... thing is, I think my rocket has just around 860 fuel left. But it's likely not going to be a problem, I just need to send them a refueler. ^^
  12. Oh.... So, mission failure, I guess? What stinks is that I've spent several days on this mission... well, in-game, but I can feel the Kerbals at the Minmus colony being pretty annoyed for being over 108 days in there. Maybe except Jebediah, who doesn't cares and alterady spent several days crammed in a Mk1 Command Pod alone at the Mun. He's in a much more comfortable Hitchhikers with a total of 5 other Kerbals to keep him company. Anyway... so I should just send the rocket back to Kerbin and perform changes, huh...that stinks. Is there any other workaround for me to land that rocket on Duna, even if it has to sacrifice a bit of fuel(but still keeping enough for a Kerbin return trip, prefferably an aerobrake one)?
  13. Oh.... Well, I was going for a straight aerobrake, directly to the point... my Duna intercept ended up with an Apoapsis of around 53,000,000m if I'm right, and I set the Periapsis to 7,000m... no wonder it's going really fast. But problem is I'm trying to save fuel for returning to Kerbin. And yeah, I don't really care about where I'll land, as long as it's a relatively flat area...though I'd be a bit comfortable if it was a site facing Ike. Not required, though. (And from what I heard, Ike has a big sphere of influence, so that might interrupt me as I take off.)
  14. I'd download this, but I'm afraid it might kill my alterady-not-too-great computer performance while running KSP. Especially during a match of KMP.
  15. There should be a way to see when each message was posted. It's useful for when you're curious if the subject ended or if you lost connection...etc.
  16. After a lot of pain and suffering, I finally managed to set up an aerobrake manuever on Duna to land. However, each time I deploy the parachutes at 5km, the Mk1-2 capsule and the Rockomax decoupler get yanked off the lander stage, rendering Bill, Mitkin and Mallan Kerman stranded on Duna. What am I doing wrong? After so much pain getting to Duna now I can't land...sheesh. (My lander stage weights 27t, if it helps. Dem Rockomax parts.) My rocket uses two radially-attachable parachutes and a Mk16-XL parachute(the large blue one, not the large orange one or the small white one), both stock. I tried only deploying the 16-XL and it still yanked off the capsule from the lander. What is going on? I doubt there's a way to add struts between the decoupler and the X200-32 fuel tank. It really sucks because I can't perform my first sucessful Duna landing. See, this is why I claim that there's a mysterious force impeding me from getting to & landing on other planets/moons.
  17. No Easy/Normal missions, only Hard missions.
  18. He's pretty much hanging with his coworkers at the Minmus colony, watching(and heartily laughing) as I try to safely land Bill and two other Kerbals on Duna.
  19. *le gasp* CLIFFHANGER! Also... You typed Bill twice. From the structure of the story I'm pretty sure that in the second Bill you meant Bob. Just pointing it out.
  20. Quit making me feel bad for not being able to do anything close to what you do! (And nice job.)
  21. Atmosphere is also driving me mad, because landing on Duna is thrice as hard as landing on the Mun, which is alterady insanely hard(mainly due to it's highly cratered landscape).
  22. Other than using HyperEdit to teleport myself to Laythe after I raged because I could not land on Duna? Pretty much nothing.
  23. I got my first Duna intercept and managed to get on it's orbit. Landing, on the other hand... *Several cutscenes of Duna 2 crashing on Duna's cold, harsh surface leaving only the Mk1-2 Command Pod unscratched begins to play* You made that rocket so big....how did it not blow up your computer? And you used it to go to the Mun... you didn't use it for a full exploration of Jool's moons and back to Kerbin safe and sound with samples of each moon, you used it to go for the Mun?!
