I went back to work on the Smig since now I know it can get into orbit, and easily at that, to add on more bits, since I may use this in a future mission. Added on RCS and RCS ports as well as a docking port underneath, and too it back up into orbit once more with even better success. I managed to get to 143km on just the turbo jet before it wouldn't push anymore, and then used the Rockomax engines to get into a nearly circular orbit. (not too sabby for just eyeballing it I think!) Of course I had to get one of the brave hand picked volunteer looking at his death machine.....errrr wonder of aviation I did manage to land it on the runway after missing it.......twice. I did move the docking port a bit future forward and added two batteries, but all in all it works and flies very well.

Well currently I have a career mode that I cannot access the runway when I "launch" a plane from there, and yet on a sandbox save it is fine. I don't crash to desktop however I cannot do anything at all after I hit the launch button, I have to alt tab and close the program. It does not give me a log about what happened or anything. I still need make a save without mods to see if the results are the same as the modded one, but then again I only have a few mods installed. I do need to record this happening and post it in the support forum and see what it could be.

To I built a SSTO fighter-esk jet (kind of like a Mig 21) using the turbo jet and two Rockomax 24-77 radial mounted engines. I was able to get an ap of about 121 km and nearly got the pe around the planet, with more practice I maybe able to get nearly orbital with it. Here Danbo is standing for a promo shot of the Smig

Semi serious question is your ground scatter at 100%? I have been running some testes on my end, and even with a few mods I max out the memory, the biggest detail mod I had was EVE and astronomers visual pack. I have my scatter turned down to 80% have not had near as many crashes, although I still get one or two from time to time. My theory is that there is a memory leak somewhere in KSP since the recent update, and I believe it has to do with the new building structures. I could be completely wrong on this but it just seems like too many things going on at the same time.

Changing Kerbal Roles
Liowen replied to SelectHalfling0's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
Actually I would have engineers have the highest stupidity they love to over complicate the simplest tasks. After working on cars for many years I believe all engineers are given a lobotomy upon getting their degree, it is the only way to explain some of the "design" choices they came up with. -
I got back into my career mod save just to see if I could do more stuff and I had a survey mission that had three parts; survey one spot from the air and two eva's from the ground. I got the air one fine but the ones where I had to land I had a bit more trouble, so I decided I needed something different to do them. Since flying a plane is not my strong suit, and the game crashed every time I launched from the runway I built a "jet car". While not the prettiest of thing is is effective, once you limit the thrust on the jet engine to about 10%. Once you stop you raise up the landing gear and exit the craft to get your eva, also it can recharge the batteries while driving so I can transmit the eva and crew reports (bonus). Yeah it is not the most stable thing but it did its job very well, and to me that is the best thing.

Wait are those tapered ones tanks (11 down on the right hand side)? If so I need me some of those kind!

This is from the aerodynamics node (Start, basic rocketery, survivability, and flight control), ignore the science jr and battery on this one as I had unlocked those before realizing it was the wrong node. It uses chutes to land and a Kerbal can eva out and repair them again if need be. This design could be modified too to land in a more traditional manor, however without ladders it is better to use the chutes. It is fairly stable once the front fins are moved slightly forward, I am not sure if those be needed if the science jr were not involved. - - - Updated - - - While mine won't get to orbit it does go higher than 18k with the science jr and goo can on it, I hit roughly 24k with even my terrible piloting skills. I would guess with some weight reduction it could get close to 30k, but for the low alt surveys it does the trick. - - - Updated - - - The way I understood the question was that this person only had 3 or 4 tech nodes available, not their respective levels. Personally I only count the tiers after start since it is free and you have no choice, and the same could be said for tier two as well. Given that though with only four tech nodes open you can build something of a plane but it has to launch like a rocket, and without ladders it is hard to disembark. These are good for surveying though I have found.

Well this is the third save that started to go wonkie for no real reason so I am doing a reinstall, my hope is that it is just conflict with the way Steam updates games. If not I am going to be really frustrated as to what it is, because it was nearly unplayable today at all. I did save my crafts though so I do not have to the rebuild of them again, that would take awhile LOL.

Where will YOUR kerbonauts celebrate New Year's Eve?

In the belly of the Kraken until I can fix my save -
Today I discovered something that is kind of mind blowing, I may have a either a corrupted file or there is a major memory leak in my KSP install. When I switch to a ship that is enroute to Eeloo it blows up the game and the screen goes black, and when I switch to the space center from said ship there is only the lower bar of the screen visible. So now I am left to decide if I want to reinstall the game or just restart all my missions from scratch on a new save. This is now the third save that has been having some sort of issue in fact I am running few mods this time as well and have been hitting the memory limit, yet when I did my colonial series with tons of mods it was very stable. Well back to the think tank I guess

Sometimes you have to log out and back in if you are not getting new ones to appear in the complex for hire. I sent 30+ on one mission and I have seen some that have 40+ on their lists, so most likely it is just waiting to generate more Kerbals.
-
So after the mishap on Moho on my test save I decided to slightly redesign my Moho lander, and I think this will work out better than my original one. The launch center stage will have enough leftover to get out of Kerbin's SOI, and then the mid drive should be enough to get the encounter and orbit before running dry. I will most likely be launching this tomorrow, I did test the launch a few times to make sure it was consistent. Duna launch should be coming up shortly as well, and my Eeloo ship will be getting closer to Eeloo. Soonâ„¢!

Getting ready for my "simulated" return from Eve, in fact you can almost see the pod. It is the little dark spot against Eve. All docked up and final ascent stage is off the pod, now just 100 days till the window opens to go home! .....And then I put the first hut on Moho. Well that is what I am calling this complete failure LOL Under figured my craft, went way too early for my transfer, and made many many mistakes during all the burns. What makes this so bad is that I was not drinking during this time, maybe I should drink more often and I will not have this happen LOL
-
The mods I can live without: Chatter, Distant object mod, Ambient light mod, navyfishs docking mod, KAC, and astronomers pack. I use other mods, KAS and KER, but I could manage without them as I learned to play without them. I would say that Hot Rockets (every time I write this I do it in the hot pockets song LOL) would be nearing the list as well, it just makes the engines have some nice effects IMHO.

Why you should always read the missions before you accept them
Liowen replied to RocketBlam's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Sounds about like 90% of all my Mun landings to be honest. Never seems to fail that I find the oddball crater in the middle of a nearly endless flat ground. -
Tips for starting a new mostly KSP Youtube channel?

Depending on the mic it might be hard to not breath on it, I know my headset it is hard as the mic sits, to me anyways, too close to my mouth and nose no matter how I have it placed. But with my mic on its stand I have it about 6 inches away and down from my mouth, talking over the mic will reduce the "popping" you get from T's and P's since the air is not directly hitting the mic. I still have yet to build my pop filter yet but I might soon, building one is not hard or expensive and it can be repaired easily. -
Tips for starting a new mostly KSP Youtube channel?

One thing I would highly recommend, even if you are not going to use mods, is to use ambient light mod, this will help with making the darkside of planets have more light. Nothing worse than a black screen with a few green, batteries, dots and nothing else. Since it does nothing to affect the game in terms of how things are done I do not consider it a true mod, it is more of a youtubers best friend. Also as for recording I would go with ACTION! (I believe it is around $40 for license) as you can split off your microphone track from the in game stuff, this will allow you to use audacity (a freeware program) to clean up you voice over stuff and not compete with the in game sounds. Another good tip is to make sure the microphone is not directly below your nose or too close to your mouth, this will help with words that have P's, T's, and any others that force air out of your mouth (hold your hand in front of your mouth and say some words to get the idea of this). -
Before Beta Duna had zero biomes now it has them, I would call that love. I would not doubt that they will do other round of polish to them soonâ„¢ though.

The white spot is the Moho-hole, should try to land in it LOL

Basically this. While the composition is public domain, meaning anyone can make their own version of said song, you cannot use just any version of this work. However if there is a version of it on a site like incompetech.com you can use that, as long as you credit them in your discription. I recently used "Also Sprach Zarathustra" (copy that into youtube I am sure you have heard it before) and since I found it on a royalty free site I can use THAT version with as long as I cite where I got it from.

Nothing like Tchaikovsky's 1812 Overture to just relax you while on one of those very delicate missions. {*CAUTION REAL CANONS USED!*} I wish I could include this in videos, but I am not sure if youtube would nail for copyright or not.

Oh no the first one is Eeloo, as for the end well I have something bigger planned.... much bigger

Well the toggle switches could most likely be found on ebay or any site that sells electronic bits, most likely bulk will be the cheapest way to go. As for the gauges I am not sure what they are, but they look similar to the old HI-FI gain read outs (I believe they are nearly the same thing), and those most likely read pitch, angle, and other things like that. Even though there are electronic readouts they are a redundancy in case of a blackout.
