Yeah, I suppose. Why not? I'm guessing Mr. Red Iron Crown replies next...

Neither. On a whim, I'll say LABHOUSE.

...Claw Game?! [Almost done!]
BagelRabbit replied to BagelRabbit's topic in KSP1 The Spacecraft Exchange
This will certainly be in the upcoming video about the Claw [spoiler ALERT!] I haven't given up on the Claw Game. It's actually very nearly done, and I'll probably have the .craft file available later today. Still working out a bug or two though, especially with driving the Claw around at a time-warp greater than 1x. Hopefully, there's an easy fix. Sorry for not having the .craft file out, by the way. Life happened, just a couple of days ago. ALL OF IT. I'm still trying to recover. -
Tier One Space Center CONFIRMED: It's a barn!
BagelRabbit replied to Starwhip's topic in KSP1 Discussion
I posted this in the Official KSP Thread, but I'll post it here too. I would be so incredibly happy if this happened. Out of all of the things I want most in 0.90 now, it would be several cows aimlessly wandering the early KSC. Think about all of the possibilities! They could eat the stuff in the sandbags over time, requiring replacements. They could be easily felled with a small projectile, to fulfill special contracts or to boost the amount of Snacks that the Kerbals would have. They would be able to live in the KSC barn, and you could see them chewing their cud in the VAB! Most importantly, they would lend the overall scene an even more homely appearance! KSP 0.90: The Cow Update. Please make it happen devs. -
Hover challenge MK2 / Everyday I'm Hoverin'
BagelRabbit replied to TJPrime's topic in KSP1 Challenges & Mission ideas
I'm sorry, but most of my VTOLs built with jets can hover for well over fifteen minutes, and I've created infinigliders that can stay up for an infinite amount of time (Take as many Elevons as you can and stick them on a Command Pod; rotate the pod to get into the air; stay up until you get bored. ... PROFIT!). I would recommend modifying the rules so that the craft must be LF+O or RCS powered, so that there's at least a little challenge to it. Otherwise, nice challenge! I'll probably partake at some point or another [EDIT: Also, can you drop parts or deploy parachutes? From your attempt, it looks like 1) yes and 2) no, but I'm not 100% sure.] -
The Three Bridges Cup!
BagelRabbit replied to BagelRabbit's topic in KSP1 Challenges & Mission ideas
Giving this challenge a bit of a bump. I completed this challenge in 1:08, which is a single second off the 0.25 record. I hope to beat this, but for the time being, it's reasonable. I did a GusTurbo and kept the parachute open through all three bridges. I deployed the parachutes far too early when coming up to the runway. I lost time between the second and third bridge. This was not a good run, and I plan on using the same vehicle to beat the challenge in less than a minute... but for the time being: I'll have to update the leaderboard a little later. -
Need a little help for presentation about space shuttle
BagelRabbit replied to TheScareCake!'s topic in The Lounge
I would use a Prezi for this, as you can move around from slide to slide. I would move from the VAB to the launch site, up to space, and back to the KSC runway. Just my two cents. I would also give a more general view of a Shuttle mission. This would be structured as such: 1) Everything before launch. The stacking in the VAB, the crawler roll-out, the launch tower. You don't have to go into too much detail, just be sure that you include this, as it is important. 2) The launch itself. You can include the major events (SRB and liquid-fuel tank separation) as well as things that could go wrong (Challenger disaster, Abort-to-Orbit of STS-51F [look it up if you haven't heard of it, a very tense moment in the Space Shuttle program].) 3) SPAAAAAAACE! Take a view of some of the best things to have happened up there. (Examples: Building the ISS, launching various space probes, and even returning stuff from orbit!) Briefly go over the Science that is to be had, and don't forget to include some fun stuff (floating around in zero-G, untethered spacewalks, etc.) 4) Comin' back home. Atmospheric reentry, coming down to landing. Emphasize that you're trying to go from tens of thousands of mph to zero in a very short period of time. One thing that I always say here is that the Shuttle is the "World's Fattest Glider," and that it's amazing that the astronauts can get the Shuttle back to the runway at all. Overall, include anecdotes, use loads of pictures, and try to have fun through all stages of the presentation process. Hope this helped! -Upsilon -
COL Infront of COM and Vice versa
BagelRabbit replied to Commander Jebidiah's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
CoL in front of CoM is a bad thing. It basically means that the plane is unstable, and desperately wants to crash. CoL and CoM in the same place is a pretty good thing. It means that the plane is 'marginally' or 'neutrally stable', which means very high maneuverability without instability. CoL in back of CoM is a good thing, as long as the CoL isn't too far back. The plane will be stable and fly well... unless the CoM is too far back. In that case, the plane will be difficult to point in the direction you want it to. [EDIT: Ninja'd, of course. I don't type very fast.] -
Here's the best advice I can give you: >Build the smaller plane first. Fly it, get comfortable with it, make sure that it's stable and nice. Then build the larger plane around it. [TexNL already said this.] >Be sure that the larger plane has plenty of lift and thrust, enough to fly the small plane around safely. >Try to keep the smaller plane inline with the larger plane. This will make everything easier; you won't have to deal with the center of thrust being in the wrong place. >Try to drop the small plane from the middle of the larger plane. If you do this correctly, the larger plane's Center of Mass and Center of Lift will barely change. This is what you want. >Throttle down the engines on the big plane before dropping the smaller plane. Otherwise, the thrust will cause the smaller plane to hit the back of the cargo bay before being released. Best of luck. Try not to die. This is a really difficult thing to build, but it's certainly possible.

The closest I can think of to this was a concept posed by Wernher von Braun. This was an absolutely ingenious way to return from the Moon. After the astronauts lifted off the Moon, they would burn to a trajectory with the periapsis inside the Earth's atmosphere, but not by much. The astronauts would detach their top stage, which was designed like a plane, prior to entering the atmosphere. The trajectory that the astronauts took would have been shallow enough for the plane to leave the atmosphere. However, the plane would use its wings to brute-force itself to remain at altitude. Once the plane had burned off most of its velocity (which would take almost a full "orbit" to complete), it would glide in for a landing. This would reduce the G-forces on the astronauts tremendously: Wernher calculated that the astronauts would experience 2 g's of centripetal force, which would balance nicely with the 1g of gravitational pull, to give the astronauts about 1g of force. When the G-force dropped back to zero, the astronauts knew that they were at suborbital velocity, and that they could land. There were some little things that weren't entirely correct, there, but the overall concept was actually very clever. I'm pretty sure that this is the closest we're gonna get to a full orbit in-atmosphere.

Rosetta, Philae and Comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko.
BagelRabbit replied to Vicomt's topic in Science & Spaceflight
I'm going to have to make another Low-Budget Animation about Rosetta and Philae in KSP! (For those who want to see my last one, which was about MAVEN: I'm shamelessly going to promote it. The video is here. It's not all that good, but it was a lot of fun to make ) -
Sharks are cool, and they are adaptable, and living undersea is a good way to not become extinct when Earth gets hit by a big rock. Fun fact: It 'snows' metal on Venus, which leads to bright radar signals and probe deaths. The atmospheric pressure at the surface is roughly equivalent to being under 3,400 feet of water. The winds on the surface aren't too high, but the pressure would make it impossible for a human to stand up without being blown over. The longest that any probe has ever survived in the Venusian atmosphere was the Vega 2 balloon (which was awesome, and nobody's heard about it), for about two days. The longest that anything has survived on the surface was the Venera 13 spacecraft, for about two hours. Never go to Venus. It's not a friendly place.

To change the title of your post, go to the Space Lounge and double-click on the word "Spaceflight" next to your title. The title should change to a text box that can be edited. Thanks for bringing this to my attention! I would love to donate to this. [EDIT: Ninja'd as expected. My way of title changing is easier though ]

What is the coolest thing you've done in KSP?
BagelRabbit replied to BarackOshizzle's topic in KSP1 Discussion
So far, maybe this. Fully working CLAW GAME in KSP! ...link for more info here, .craft file coming soon -
Fun fact: The stars you see in the sky are not tremendously large, or bright. Also, your camera has a very small CCD chip and a very small camera aperture. Also, it doesn't have arbitrarily long shutter speeds. So, here's what's happening: You attempt to snap a picture of some really small and dim things. Your camera only captures a fraction of the light that they emit, and you can't leave the shutter open for long enough for more than a few photons to find their way into your camera. Furthermore, any bright bits you get are likely pixels that are, in effect, broken. Your stars are dimmer than these bright pixels. This isn't great. Here's how to get good pictures of the stars without buying another camera, downloading software, etc.: 1) Take your cellphone camera and butt it up against a friend's telescope. Find a bright star, and it should show up reasonably well on your camera. (BONUS! You can take surprisingly good pictures of the Moon this way, and even sometimes see Jupiter's moons!) 2) Take a picture of the Sun. It is a star, and you will be able to see it on your cell-phone camera. 3) Search for 'Orion constellation' in Google Images. Find a nice, high-resolution picture and post it to all of the social media sites you want. Be sure to give credit to the person who took it. That's really all you can do at this point, without spending a fair sum of money. (Sorry.)

Time for a lot of information. First off: MOHO IS OUT! (yes, MOHO. I don't really know why I did that one either.) It's maybe the most unique piece I've done. Also, you should probably turn the volume down about halfway through, because it gets a little loud. Here you go! ...and have a Download Link! Alright. Now that the excitement has died down a little: This is probably true. I'm not entirely sure that I view JOOL being deep brass, but I can definitely see where you're coming from. (Just listened to all of The Planets last week.) By the way, this has been bugging me for a while: If you really are a smartS, you would probably know that 'lifes' is spelled with an apostrophe. You really should change this. Gonna do MUN next. I was going to do it this go around... but then I decided against it. I think I need to work on the theme a little bit more. Thanks, BriX! Welcome back to the Forums. We missed you. The entire point of this music is to eventually get into a plugin for the game. This plugin may be implemented into the final game (like SP+ was) but that is for the devs to decide, later. Neither can I! I suppose I'm a step closer to having it done now though. CURRENT LIST OF PLANETS: (red indicates not-done, green indicates done. I'm going to work on more planet and moon music after the completion of the initial plugin, but I'm just getting the bare bones down now.) KERBOL MOHO EVE KERBIN MUN MINMUS DUNA DRES JOOL EELOO So all in all, about half done. I'll pick up the pace a little, as I want to have this music done by the year's end. PEOPLE HELPING, AND WHAT THEY'LL PROBABLY HELP WITH: Ival70: Harmonica (MUN [i think]) 14 of 18: Tenor Trombone (JOOL, MUN [maybe]) AvronMullican: Piano (EELOO) General Rarity: Suggestions (unless the cello is fixed) ...and, of course: Avera9eJoe: Percussion (MUN, JOOL) Sorry for this absolute load of information. Thanks for reading this -Upsilon

...Claw Game?! [Almost done!]
BagelRabbit replied to BagelRabbit's topic in KSP1 The Spacecraft Exchange
...it's almost done! Just a few more tweaks and it will be complete. I've mostly done aesthetic stuff to the Claw machine... it looks a heck of a lot better now. Lettering is with solar panels on the word "CLAW," and upside-down battery packs for the word "GAME." The Claw Rover needs a go-over and the rail still has some bugs to be worked out... but this is turning out even better than expected. -
...Claw Game?! [Almost done!]
BagelRabbit replied to BagelRabbit's topic in KSP1 The Spacecraft Exchange
Thanks, Shaun! Unfortunately, I don't really see how this thing could move in three dimensions and still have the big Claw apparatus dangling from it. It was hard enough to get it to run smoothly on that rail Yep, the Pumpkin Carrier has been repurposed. I'm happier with its new configuration, though. Thanks, sir! I appreciate the +Rep, too. This took a really long time to get to work at all. It still needs some tweaking, but I think it may well be a KSP first...? I'm going to work on my Other Project now (it's a secret, I'll tell you later). See ya in the morning! -
You all remember those wonderful days of youth. Those sunny, sticky days when you were at some supermarket, when all of a sudden, you noticed it in the corner: The Claw Game! It had lights! It had cool toys! It had a claw, enticingly dangling from the top! It was perhaps the most frustrating way to spend your $0.50 humanly possible! Well, if you're hoping to relive that nostalgia... I've created it in KSP. The Claw Game! (Still very much a work in progress.) This version of the immortal game works in much the same way as its real-life equivalent. You start by popping the Kerbals out of their Command Pods... then you decouple the little Claw-Rover and drive over to the Kerbal Bin... then you time-warp up, the claw drops, and you hope that you can get a Kerbal! Time-warp back to 1x with the Kerbal safely in the Claw, drive it back to the other side and dock it, and drop off your new friend. Yeah, I don't know why I did this either. PICTURES! EDIT! Look, new pictures! Here's the Claw Game, ready for action! Doesn't it look cool? The Claw is ready to drop upon the unsuspecting Kerbals below (with the help of 4x Time-Warp.) The Claw has captured a Kerbal! Time to time-warp back to 1x and take Bobger to the Victory Bin on the other side. You're free, Bobger! Now you can be taken home by the lucky winner... I spent too much time making this thing look nice, and work properly. Still, though, it's not that bad of an idea, right? ...and now for an All-New Video explaining how the thing works! So, yeah. In the future, I want to work out some bugs and tweak some systems a little (.craft file coming tomorrow or the day after, I think)... but for the time being, I hope you enjoy this wonderful bit of insanity! -Upsilon

Bagel Rabbit: The Future of KSP Insanity!
BagelRabbit replied to BagelRabbit's topic in KSP Fan Works
Hello once again, Individuals! A lot has happened since I last posted on this thread. (Including me making five videos!) These videos have been submitted to the KSPumpkin thread. I'm not entirely sure whether Rowsdower will consider the videos as 'all one unit' or as 'five separate videos,' but regardless, I had a lot of fun making them, and I tested out some Technology that will come in handy later. The entire video series is only about ten minutes long, so you can watch it in one sitting. That's it for now. As always... Have a very nice day, Individuals! Like, Favorite, Subscribe and Share please... and I'll see you next time, with another episode of the KeeeeEEEErbal Space Program! PEACE!! -
Happy Halloween, everyone!

[Showcase] Showoff Your Rep-Worthy Crafts
BagelRabbit replied to Redrobin's topic in KSP1 The Spacecraft Exchange
Wow... this is straight out of the Twilight Zone. I built this guy pretty recently. It's capable of a 90x90km orbit and return, but only barely. And it looks so much like your design! I haven't checked on this thread in a while, so I did a double-take when I saw it... (please pardon the poor lighting. I had my shaders set to minimum to compensate for lag caused by making the Telescope look like a pumpkin.) ...I feel like I have to post something else on here now! Here, have two random things that I made a while ago! The Dragonfly! A light and surprisingly awesome VTOL! (Doesn't work in 0.25 ) ...and The Dragon! You may remember this one, especially because it's in my signature. I don't think this one works in 0.25 either, but I'll try to fix this. Enjoy! I'll provide craft files for any of these three upon request... just be forewarned that the latter two probably don't work anymore. -
I'm going to expand upon this analogy, because it's a good one. A publisher wants you to translate a large and complicated book from English to French. Not only do you have to learn French, but you have to learn it in less than six months... or face the wrath of the publisher. You must learn the vast majority of French words in this time. Then, you have to translate the book into French. Not only must you translate the words properly, but you must type every single word correctly. If you don't do so, the publisher will be livid, and you'll have to fix any and all typos immediately. Furthermore, you must periodically add additional chapters to the book, revise sentences, elaborate on topics, and so on. All in French. Replace "French" with "Another Programming Language," "A Book" with "KSP," and "The Publisher" with "KSP's audience." This is the kind of thing that the devs would have to go through. I shudder just thinking about it. (Also, modders would probably start some sort of mob, and rightfully so. They have worked on KSP too, sometimes for years. This would mean that all their work just went up in smoke. Not great.)
