Banged this out in about ten minutes. I suppose it counts as a photo, as it has most of the original coloration and the original shuttle. I wonder if I could do this for others' work, as a compliment to the already-existing Debris Series?

You're right on both accounts, sir. I can't actually snap as fast as I had to for this, so I had to make two tracks. On one of them, I did something like: "SNAP (rest) SNAP (rest) SNAP (rest)" and on the other track: "(rest) SNAP (rest) SNAP (rest) SNAP" In other words, I kinda cheated, but it's not noticeable and I don't think anyone minds. I'm considering setting up some sort of donation thing for those who want to give me cash. I have a very strong belief, though, that anyone should be able to listen to and use everything I make. Without straying too far into Rule 2.2i territory (Forbidden: "Links that promote projects and/or products that are meant for the personal profit of either party"), any thoughts on having a donations bin?

From the musical South Pacific: "You've got to be taught to hate and fear; you've got to be taught from year to year; it's got to be drummed in your dear little ear. You've got to be carefully taught. You've got to be taught to be afraid of people whose eyes are oddly made and people whose skin is a different shade. You've got to be carefully taught. You've got to be taught before it's too late; before you are six, or seven, or eight, to hate all the people your relatives hate. You've got to be carefully taught." Even though this was made in 1949, its message still rings true for everyone, everywhere, of every ethnicity (in the original musical, this song is about Americans hating Asian people, but its message goes beyond that). It was the first thing to pop into my mind when I heard about this. Stay safe, everyone. [EDIT - Can't post attachments?! Here's the link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-JjiaRJqKIU]

Made My Own (not-KSP) Short Film! [EDIT: It's OUT!]
BagelRabbit replied to BagelRabbit's topic in The Lounge
Progress Report, 11/24: I'm more than halfway done with the art... I've made 19 pictures in all, with variations on some of them (having the Ice Cream's mouth move to talk, etc.) I also did some test renderings of talking animations. They're a little cheesy as of now but I think I can pull it off. Here's the latest image I made, showing the cone half-melted. I'm a little disappointed with the lack of progress today but I plan on making up for it tomorrow. And, after all, there are few people in their right mind who would try to do something like this, in the first place. -
*ahem* Bouncy, bouncy, bouncy, bouncy, Fun, fun, fun, fun, fun. The most wonderful thing about Kerbals is that Jeb's an immortal one. Sorry. Anyways, NWDogg, are Kerbals like really evolved protists then? That would be neat.

totm oct 2023 Post Your Cinematics Here! (Cinematic Enthusiasts)
BagelRabbit replied to Halban's topic in KSP Fan Works
I'm going to take advantage of the fact that 'Cinematic' doesn't mean 'KSP Cinematic,' and post the trailer for a project I'm working on. (Hey, this may influence some KSP cinematics. You never know. Also, I do want the opinions of those more well-versed in making films than I am.) More information about this project here. Let me know what you think! [EDIT - Just because I feel like this isn't relevant enough, I'll also post a "real" KSP Cinematic here... even though it ain't Halloween anymore.] -
Made My Own (not-KSP) Short Film! [EDIT: It's OUT!]
BagelRabbit replied to BagelRabbit's topic in The Lounge
That's the reason why I'm trying to push this wherever possible (including the totally-unrelated KSP Forums). I have every reason to believe that this video will get a few thousand views, at least. The last short film I made, which was tailored to a very, very specific audience (KSP players watching the arrival of MAVEN at Mars), has 550 views and counting. The film I'm making now will be for all audiences, regardless of background. In addition, I've got a merry band of subscribers who will watch and spread the video, if they like it. Speaking of which! Once this film is done, if you like it, please share it with family and friends. I would appreciate that immensely. -
Made My Own (not-KSP) Short Film! [EDIT: It's OUT!]
BagelRabbit replied to BagelRabbit's topic in The Lounge
Thanks! Progress Report, 11/23: I've "made" the music (really just my Spheres of Legend cover played 400% slower, trippy!) and found some good wind background noise, I've made about a third of the art, and I've finalized the overall cinematic direction of the work. Good stuff. Oh, and here's the preliminary teaser trailer, banged out in less than two hours from start to finish. Do you see the cuts in between scenes? The 'trippiness' is gradually going to increase as the ice-cream cone melts, to a nearly constant stream of it. If done right, this will be very powerful. It's actually coming together. I'm quite happy. -
Project Arctic Film- Be Part Of Something Great
BagelRabbit replied to Vagani's topic in KSP Fan Works
I would love that. Gonna have to wait until winter break though... my Thanksgiving break is tied up making this. (Shameless Plug!) The main thing I'm worried about here is consistency. If you want the overall quality to look the same from shot to shot, you're going to have a load of mods running. Let me give you an example. It's near the beginning of the movie. A Kerbal is dragging a sledge through the Artic. The Kerbal has been colored with Texture Replacer. The sledge is made with some Firespitter parts, Tweakscaled down to the proper size, and the connection between the Kerbal and the sledge is with KAS. For a uniform look in the cinematic quality, EVA Follower and Camera Tools have to be downloaded as well. That's six necessary mods, in total. So what would happen if you took out any of the mods? A lack of consistency, that's what. Taking out any of the structural mods would make the sledge cease to work, or at least look very different. Taking out any of the Kerbal retexturing mods would make the Kerbals look dramatically different from shot to shot. Taking out any of the camera mods would make the camerawork very different. The mods aren't just for bells and whistles, they make up an integral part of the footage. There's no way to shoot more than a couple of scenes without requiring at least a few mods. Again, I'm going to reiterate what I said earlier; namely, that playing with this many mods is deceiving to new players and difficult for many computers to handle. I understand that you want to showcase the community as well, but keep in mind, this film is made by the community. It was started by a community member, and then other community members joined in. The plot, the screenplay, the voice acting, and even the music will be created by community members. And yet you make the statement that the film has to use mods to reflect the community. That statement doesn't seem to stack up, in my opinion at least. Um, Vagani? Has someone hacked into your account? You build great vehicles! It even says so in your signature. What I understand is, there's literally no part of the film that I could make (except for the music), on account of my poor computer and the amount of mods required. I'm certainly not the only one. You're supporting community members by including mods, but at the same time you're shutting out community members like me who actively want to help in this project. That doesn't seem all that fair. There's no need to be irritated, by the way. I've tried my best to keep a level head, and I still want to participate in this project. I'm just raising some concerns, because I'm sure I'm not the only one having them. And yes, I do understand the word "Could." Thanks for your consideration. -Upsilon -
Project Arctic Film- Be Part Of Something Great
BagelRabbit replied to Vagani's topic in KSP Fan Works
Tell me your thoughts on them, environment mods are also needed, we could wait for astronomer to release the interstellar pack, that looks amazing at the moment [GRUMP]Sorry, not going to build anything for this now. The mod list is really, obscenely long. I wanted this movie to show what SQUAD's game could do, not what SQUAD's game, modded almost beyond recognition, can do. If you're playing with this many mods, you're not playing KSP, in my opinion. You're playing some other thing. It may be better, but it's so profoundly different from the stock game that it doesn't even really qualify. Please don't use so many mods. It's misleading to new players, difficult for many computers to handle, and doesn't add as much as it should.[/GRUMP] -Upsilon -
The finished film is out. It's strange, and I hope you enjoy it. ~~~ Hello! I do things on the Forum. Today, I embark upon a project to make a complete five-minute animated film in two weeks. [EDIT - Trailer One Out!] Questions you probably have right now: "Why are you doing this?" I've felt the need to make a dedicated animated film since this. With a full week off from college this Thanksgiving, I finally have a chance! (The second week will likely just be post-production, and I'll have time for some frantic last-minute work.) "What's the title?" S W E E T "What's the premise?" Because I'm not really all that normal, this film will also be deeply not-normal. The basic premise is that there's an ice-cream cone that appears in the desert, questions its existence and purpose, and then melts. Further details (including a script!) as events warrant. "What's the budget?" $0 (besides the stuff I've already got). "Will it win an Oscar?" Well, I can dream. I will be posting this on YouTube when it's done so that everyone can watch it for free. This does, however, mean that you will have to pop your own popcorn prior to watching. Let me know what you think! I'll be posting a progress report every day or two. Thanks for stopping by! -Upsilon

Project Arctic Film- Be Part Of Something Great
BagelRabbit replied to Vagani's topic in KSP Fan Works
I'm working on a preliminary "Project Artic" movie poster: ...Note: This was done in, like, fifteen minutes. I am capable of much better art than this... Here's one of my finest. (Hi, Avera9eJoe!) Other than the fact that the Kerbal is done completely wrong in every way possible, everything was sketched out badly, and the text sucks, what do you think of the overall poster design? -
Hello! I make music. You may remember me. (I'm still working on this, by the way... new planetary song out next week(?)) Anyways, I was feeling ill and thus decided to make a little bit of music instead of flying craft around and saying witty* things like I usually do in my YouTube videos. *not really witty Presenting... a thing I made in about half an hour: The KSP "Lights" Cover! [EDIT: Videos aren't embedding, on my computer at least. Here's a YouTube link.] It's got guitar! It's got violin! It's got way too much snapping! I played all of the instruments (and did all the snapping) myself, of course. Anyway, I just wanted to share this with y'all... ...oh, and here's a download link, if you want it. Thanks for listening! -Upsilon

Project Arctic Film- Be Part Of Something Great
BagelRabbit replied to Vagani's topic in KSP Fan Works
Working on a "Prometheus"-themed shuttle design (all-stock, no less). The results aren't too bad: It's a VTOL with plenty enough fuel to land on an alien world. It's got parachutes for a softer landing... six-Kerbal capacity, decent TWR, good control, and good looks. I'm thinking that the final lander will be bigger than this, but it's not a bad start. -
[11/26/15 Update] Say Hello to the Light-Green Group!
BagelRabbit replied to Endersmens's topic in Kerbal Network
Noted and fixed. I just assumed it was you by looking at your signature... I should be a little more careful next time. No problem, zekes. You earned the +Rep, you deserve a place in the limelight. Best of luck in getting up to the Light-Green Group! I'm sure you'll get there soon enough. -
How do wheels break at speed?
BagelRabbit replied to glen.mack's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
Yes, and their breakdown speed is 60 m/s. In general, rover wheels break either when (A) you exceed the maximum horizontal speed that they can withstand (labeled 'Breakdown Speed' on the aforementioned Wiki page) or ( you drop them with a vertical speed that is too great (labeled 'Impact Tolerance,' it's at about 100 m/s for the Ruggedized wheel, off the top of my head.) I would be more worried about the landing than I would be about getting the thing to speed. You can continue to burn after you leave the ramp... but parachutes don't work on Dres. Hope this helps (too)! -Upsilon -
[11/26/15 Update] Say Hello to the Light-Green Group!
BagelRabbit replied to Endersmens's topic in Kerbal Network
Light-Green Group has been updated. It should be current (and contain no typos anymore. Thanks, Red Iron Crown!) I love how this thread has become a way for good, honest forum-goers to get more +Rep. One notable example is that of UmbralRaptor, whose +Rep practically doubled after he posted on here. (Also, NovaSilisko was catapulted into the Group within hours of my posting!) Expect the next update to be sometime in December. I can't update this more than roughly once a month... it's quite time consuming. (Sorry.) -
Dres Altitude Maps
BagelRabbit replied to glen.mack's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
I think I know why you want Dres altitude maps. Why don't you just scout out the area that you want to do your... secret stuff... near? I'm pretty sure that you can get from one side to the other with an EVA pack, so you can get a good look at both your starting and ending points. I think there may not be any easier way of doing it. Best of luck! -Upsilon -
Project Arctic Film- Be Part Of Something Great
BagelRabbit replied to Vagani's topic in KSP Fan Works
Unless of course your building a centrifuge rocket in which case ignore all that ^. Agreed. I'm a big fan of T-shaped designs, with the solar panels and engines in the front. Here's my old Grand Tour ship, which was something like twelve modules docked in space. Last I used it, it was flying out to Kerbol orbit with over 2/3 of its fuel left. I don't like the aesthetics of the frontmost module, but the rest of it looks very much like a 'research station,' and would fit the bill well. Prometheus was designed to be a lander, with engines capable of swiveling. I picture the station as something like in Europa Report; the plot seems to be halfway between 2001 and the little low-budget sci-fi thriller. It doesn't need to take off or land on the planet, and thus it should look as if it was designed for space. [EDIT: I am well capable of building ships, or really doing anything to help the cause: editing, advertising, writing script, voice acting, etc. as well...] -
Kerbal module is 95% done! Expect the .craft file tomorrow. ...and don't question it. Please don't question it.
-
Progress on my module is coming along nicely. ...and yes, it's actually practical as well: it has six RTGs for power and a seven-Kerbal capacity... and it has fewer than 140 parts, as of now! Further details as events warrant.
-
I wonder if I could be of any help. The last station I built was in 0.23.2... it was this (all-stock grand-tour ship) beast: ...what modules are needed, right now?

What if kerbin went at the speed of light
BagelRabbit replied to CG_Kerbin's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Muzak is a thing... it's that one type of 'elevator music' that no one really likes very much. If Kerbin (or Earth) spun at the speed of light, everything on the surface would turn into energy (E=MC Squared!), which would instantaneously and utterly destroy the planet, and the solar system as well. If Einstein's equation wasn't applied (like in KSP), the planet would simply spin to bits within a fraction of a second, and the friction that this would cause would heat up the little bits of Earth to incredibly high temperatures. In about two seconds, the Moon would be destroyed by the little bits' pummeling. The bits would likely also destroy Venus and Mars, and there's a fair chance that a bit would hit one of the other planets and destroy it as well. So, whichever way you slice it, Earth is not going to survive, and neither are the inner planets. -
Krazy Kontraptions Megathread
BagelRabbit replied to MedwedianPresident's topic in KSP1 The Spacecraft Exchange
Currently making a Claw Game in KSP. (Surely this must count for something.) "The claw is our master! It will choose who will stay and who will go!" The most recent picture is here: ...though I've already tweaked the aesthetics to make it look even better. It's 100% Stock; there's a movable Claw on a rail; you can raise and lower it through the magic of Time-Warp and Toroidal Springs. It can pick up one out of eight Kerbals, and is slightly easier and less frustrating than the Claw Game that you see in supermarkets everywhere. I will update this post when the .craft file comes out, but in the meantime, here's a link explaining the Claw Game's properties a little more. ...I have a feeling I'm going to be posting here a lot.
