Will keep my eyes on it and watch videos/series to get a feel. Not buying blind anymore. Too many crap games or "surprise mechanics" ruining everything they promised that I simply can't trust anymore. As for buying early access? They'd have to drop a lot of honey on it to make it appealing to me. Most likely a full-blown solar system right out of the box (Complete with Outer planets, Pluto analogue and Halley's comet analogue). I really don't see what they could add to make we want early access tbh. Trying to think of stuff and nothing comes to mind. Nothing that couldn't be made by the many awesome modders KSP1 had/has. I guess if they shipped a game box like they used to, a nice art/instruction booklet, and a 1 foot Kerbin Globe... something like that, but not that interested. Chances are I will wait a week or 4, then jump in. What's that? I never heard of it.

Anyone else think KSP 2 might be overly ambitious?

And I am holding them very severely to their word. If we can indeed build a grandtour, 800+ part ship and I am playing realtime, no clock lag? It's looking good, but I never sell the skin before felling the bear. -
Issues I have with the release date

Then do yourself a favor and play the 1993(?) original if you can find a good, patched version that still works on modern systems. It's honestly at LEAST 4x the scope and depth of mechanics than the new one. Granted I didn't gve the remake another chance when they got xpacs out. Only 4-6 in a team, and being limited into what we could carry (play the original, you'll see) was an absolute show stopper. I loved the original's geoscape and base building/location much better as well. If you like that most recent remake, you'll love the original ! -

Oh yes, very much so. I mean, coming from KSP1 where performance has been an issue eversince I started to venture beyond Mun/Minmus... And they're adding SO MUCH on top, I can't help but to be nervous about the whole thing. Frame rates kill my enjoyment very quickly... Kraken is next but with experience you get better at avoiding it. I am hopeful, but nervous. -

Oh man I still am angry about that X-Com game "remake" (puke) that was made for console first. Then there's all the steam versions of Console --> Mobile --> PC ported Final Fantasy games (a 15 years old CRAPPY emulator does a better job). That's what fueled my hatred of console Ports for years and still do today. Some coming here to whine about a PC game getting a bad console port will get absolutely NO sympathy for me. I do however wish them the best they can get from this PC game, on console of their choice. Hey, at least you're getting one. I'm not sure I'll get a FF7-remake PC port myself, and ***IF*** said port will be quality, or crappy. -
Poll: Will you keep playing KSP1 after KSP2 is released?
Francois424 replied to EchoLima's topic in KSP1 Discussion
It all depends on how KSP2 feels. If it feels like KSP1 with more stuff, not losing much old stuff, and one can run 1000 parts ships without any lag (1-for-1 second clock) then I probably wont pay KSP1. If KSP2 feels "artificial" (sorry can't explain it well... say it feels stiff and game fonts/graphics fell off) or if it does not improve on KSP1, then I'll stick to KSP1 with it's lag because no GPU usage and huge lag from graphics mods/large ships. KSP2 already loses points in my book for NOT having a full solar system analogue, and still having the half-done one from KSP1... but it's not a deal breaker, and HOPEFULLY mods will fix that. My two cents. -
I just heard of KSP 2. Are they officially using Unity?

That's amazing. There's hope for a good looking Japanese girl avatar in the future of gaming afterall. Obviously that is going to have to wait until game publishers HAVE TO make good games to make bank again. With the lootboxes and other garbage, games haven't improved much (graphics-wise) in the last ~10 years IMHO. And it's a darned shame. -
List of new propulsion systems
Francois424 replied to bartekkru99's topic in Prelaunch KSP2 Discussion
Just having vessels that can reach 10-20% of the speed of light would be fantastic imho, as long as they don't take 4 years to reach it, of course (A few months might be ok tho). There's no need for warp drives of any kind. But I'm sure some will be modded in eventually regardless. -
Probably Orion Rovers/planes. Or remake my "Explorer II" that I used for my Jool-5 two years or so ago, but instead of future tech ion propulsion, with 4x Orion Nuclear boom drives. It might not be feasible as it may destroy the cargo, but will have to at least try. Obviously make rovers/planes/boats than can circumvent most planets/moons, see my first line above, heh heh heh. I might also remake 2 of my largest vessels that I dropped from poor framerate. With the (supposed) improvement from better coding and better coaxing of the unity engine, they may yet be fun to play afterall. I quite expect to have more fun than I had in years, barring bugs. Which leads to the last thing: Try and invoke the Kraken any way I can. I wan't to know what it takes to tear KSP2's engine to the ground as far as bug goes as early as possible... So I know what NOT to do. Now if that isn't the Kerbal way, I don't know what it .

I stand corrected. thanks. That's pretty interesting thinking. Imagine having a large 150 parts rover (for more challenging planets) and you put it in a single large container box. Then if the game/ship's physics treats the container as ONE part... Now that would be something. Maybe apply the same kind of things to part stowed away in a cargo bay or under a fairing. That's just genius! +1 -
+1 (dunno why but couldn't do the usual "I like this"). More options isn't bad. Tho I'd have another checkbox: "Starting Money" so I could check "Money + Contracts", but start with a hefty amount. I like doing them contracts and earning money (especially getting tourists around in the Duna/Jool System), but I hate grinding the early game's money. Just prove why we need different options !

The full solar system of GJ581 (the one with 6 planets, including Zarmina) -- To this day unproven, and deemed unlikely... I don't care. The full Kerbol system analogue (OPM mod, which I hope sees the day) Other than these 2... Really anything goes. Some Tidally locked planets with proper care to design... meaning one side is this huge harsh desert where it reaches 80-90 C, maybe even worse than that... say 150 C. And a cold ice/glacier covered side where it's like -65 C. In the middle band you get water/grass maybe some large seas and few biomes. Might be a good challenge to make a Rover (or a plane!) on such a world, specially if they model the thermals properly with part stress included... Or life support requirements... That planet would be fun. Oh and since it's very close to it's parent star, orbits in like 14-28 days and has huge red sun in the sky at proper latitudes. I would also love a planet with an extremely long atmosphere (150-200km?) which would feel like landing on an Ice "giant" (not really one because you'd get crushed... even on the smaller ones like Uranus or Neptune). Something possible but very challenging to fly down to, and from... but not because you burn up in 2 sec like Eve. A full, 100% waterworld (GJ581 had "GJ581D" who was rumored to be a full oceanic world because the oceans are so deep, no land reached the surface. Might provide a challenge of it's own with landing the correct contraption... Plus it allows me to attempt designing an "Atlantis" colony. Bonus point if we can produce Hydrogen/Oxygen from it's Oceans for fuel. Now making rovers on this would be extremely fun. Even more bonus points if it has 2 Large moons. think 4times the size of our moon in the sky, maybe more, for both of them (so one would be bigger but further away so appears same size as the other) Looking forward to it.

Oh bad example with city skylines man. The game ran like absolute crap as soon as your city gained size. Like you set it to speed 5 and it runs into about 1.5 maybe 2. It was absolutely annoying and made me quit after a while. Not as bad, but can get as bad, Hearts of Iron 4... which if I am right is also unity. It ALSO suffers from slowdown after a while and is especially visible in a total world war with more than 2 factions. Benefit of the doubt where it is due. They said there would be quite the improvement... I figure unless you go with 2.5k-3k part monster ships. A wee bit of optimization from the player's part will make such atrocities be 1000 parts at most (Using most efficient batteries, fuel tanks, engines, etc). The HUGE problem with KSP1 is that if you go Nuclear, you have 60 thrust engine... that's it. A good mothership needs at the very least 1k thrust to be viable... 2-3k isn't out of the picture either, do the math. Fuel tanks encourage spamming parts, getting nice wings encourage spamming parts, just getting a circular-looking ship is part spam to the nth degree. And of course lag starts from 200-350 depending on your rig. Having 64 gigs of Ram does not help either. Proper part design would solve A LOT of problem with ships in KSP1, the lego approach is cool, but it's killing frame rate to hell and back. You have to mod your own parts in KSP1, say a 2000 thrust nuke engine to replace 33 parts. A * SINGLE* LF tank that weights properly but that single piece adds say 50k LF... etc. I hope KSP2 is a mix of BETTER performance (all but confirmed) and better stock part designs. But unity hasn't impressed me as an engine. Then again, not many engines have impressed me... Game devs usually purchase dev tools to develop in them, and running certain types of game in the wrong engine can spread crap all over said game project. So meh. TL;DR? Wait and see. -
Increase electrical requirements over distance by reducing size of packets. So by having 100-1000+ ticks to send science interstellar it would create an artificial "delay" not to mention having proper power-generation/infrastructure to maintain said transmission for the required time (assuming timewarp trick is fixed). It's not a perfect system, but it's my way of making it longer, while still being easy and not obnoxious. As for probes, agreed with the advanced AI idea, just a top notch probe that can handle it's own, provided it does not run out of power (and it should be hungry to not be the end of all probes... a more 'basic' probe would be better for current solar system, provided it has a good enough antenna)...

You, me, and everyone else. Back in 0.23(?) there where already threads complaining that the next major planet upgrade was long overdue. To be honest I was 100% sure we'd have gotten a full analogue of our solar system as part of the BASE game long before we got version 1.0 It wouldn't have made any difference on how the actual science game is played, but it would have added tons of content, some with a greater challenge than just going to Jool (Sarnus-7? Urlum-4? Plock-5 ? And very poor solar panel efficiency without stock nuclear reactor). I'm still baffled it wasn't sold as a DLC. There's stuff for 4 DLCs if done professionally and correctly. Each DLC adding the next planet and surrounding moons. And if as much effort is put into these moons (Or the Pluto analogue, the only non-Gas Giant) as went into the Mün then it would be a real treat ! Still hoping after all this time.

Currently my "limit" is about 250-300 parts. When the game clock vs Realtime clock is about 1/2 or 1/3. Maybe 1/4th for temporary mothership missions. My hopes is that we get 1'000 parts in the green, 1-for-1 second. If we attain that, I care really little about the extra, tho that would be nice
-
I was more agreeing about Moho, Duna, Jool's Moons, and any OPM planets (Like Urlum, who should have a pretty wicked 90 degree tilt, with her moons orbiting what would be "polar" on Kerbin. Would be quite the view coming in tho !). I agree about leaving Kerbin and 2 moons like they are.
-
Nothing a good mod won't fix. Real axial tilts and OPM will come a long way
-
Should KSP1 get a huge performance upgrade someday, pretty sure not all of us finished all they planned doing in this game but stopped because of performance hits and other kraken issues. I heard somewhere KSP1 is also moving to new unity version or something like that ? And I would still give KSP1 money for a OPM expansion. I've wanted this mod being official for sooo long now. KSP1 might have some more life into it still, even when KSP2 is around. We shall see.

Well, I prefer my fantasy GJ581 where the picture about is 100% how the system is. Complete with "Zarmina" -- ie: GJ581g. I can imagine a Kerbin-sized world in orbit of one of your Goldilocks Gas Giants. Bonus points if it looks like Uranus, Neptune or Saturn... At least colonies will give us "Something else to do" and on top of everything we already can do, going to be a very nice feature.
-
I stand corrected. So nothing to improve my opinion of "AAA" games still. Pathetic. Then it's a good thing. I don't play a lot of Indie, but those I do I thoroughly enjoyed.
-
Probably Multiple colonies, at my favorite spots. In stock KSP2 : - Kerbin's North or South pole: That will most likely be my planetary colony test bed. And allow me to do what I was doing for science(tm) back in 0.23, which is jump from KSC to North Pole. Then fly there with planes. - Definitely one on Duna, but dunno where. Will have to rove around and see where's a good spot. - Probably an Orbital Colony around Jool. Either between Laythe and Vall (where my Jool first probe EVER in KSP stayed for a very long time until it got Kraken'd) or if not, at the limit of Jool's SOI in a Polar orbit. - Probably another Orbital Colony around Kerbol. This one will be named "Halley's Komet" and have roughly the same orbital properties as said Comet, adjusted for KSP's scale, but minus the inverted orbit. Always wanted to do this. - Like that trailer, on that ice-watery moon of Saturn. Non-Stock KSP2 : - Orbit of Urlum(Uranus analogue) or/and on one of it's moon. - Surface of Tekto (Titan analogue) - heck a lot of places in the Outer Planet eras of the Solar System. Specific mod, should they happen: - Gliese 581 system... Lots of Stations there. Probably an Orbital station around G581d (rumored as a 100% waterworld, and kind of a big one at that). and a few planetary colonies on each one. I've never seen any KSP mod of this system. But one might hope. If modding is as easy as they say it is going to be, maybe I can make it myself... We shall see.
